Always great food and service here! Lots of fun when there's live music :)
We picked Speisekammer because we hadn’t been there and German food sounded great. We weren’t disappointed. Speisekammer is a charming place with very good food. We all enjoyed the dining and the great selection of beer. The highlight of the evening was the Server Liz. She was friendly,, informative and very helpful. She turned the evening into a real event.
Loved our visit with our friends. Our waitress Erin was amazing, knowledgeable and friendly. Answered all our questions with ease. She is a GREAT waitress.
The ambience is wonderful. The decor reminded me of my childhood piano teacher’s European style home in San Francisco, lots of warm old country touches. The food is fantastic. The charcuterie appetizer was a great starter, the small platter of tasty meats, pickles, and a green salad was more than enough for 2, the sauerbraten tri tip was fork cutting tender, and the peach cobbler brought tears to my eyes. The staff is so friendly and completely at your service. All you need do is show up and enjoy!
The service is top notch and the food is very authentic German. I live in Fremont and the commute to Speisekammer is well worth the drive for the food experience. Great beverage selection and there's nothing like live entertainment while enjoying good times with friends and family. Probably the best German dining experience in the Bay area.
What a great neighborhood gem. The food on my last visit was outstanding. Have been here before and the food, only occasionally, had a few misses. What establishment doesn't? The thing is, they keep coming back and doing it well. German food can be a hard sell in the vegan, I won't-eat-it-unless-it's-kale Bay Area. Live a little and go for the carbs. Beer selection good also. Speisekammer is pretty unpretentious but young with a few families thrown in there. Only downside is, wait time can be long as the food takes awhile to get to the table, but worth it. Aside from the standards, which are good, I would heartily recommend the butterfish if available and the oxtails. Street parking can be a problem so be prepared to walk a few blocks.
The food and service is always exceptional. The interior is comfortable and clean, and the patio is wonderful. It can get a little loud inside but that’s just because everyone is enjoying the food and company. In the form of the cafe and patio we enjoyed great music on a Friday as well.
My husband and I took his sister and brother in law here for lunch. They were stationed in Germany so knew what the food should taste like. They had been to other German restaurants and were not impresses. When each one of them took their first bite their comment was "Now this is German food". Each one of us enjoyedoir lynches and would highly recommend this restaurant.
Good food, nice waiter outside dining, difficult to make a reservation on OpenTable
We arrived at 5:45 for reservations at 5:45. When walking in the inside was again very musty or heavy air as in no air circulation. They need to turn on a fan. We chose the other option and ate outside. It was a little cool outside but better than the blanket of humidity inside.
Food was delicious! I've only had German food a couple of times. We had the wiener schnitzel, jagerschnitzel, and schweinebraten. All were super good and we really enjoyed the food and atmosphere. I really appreciated the full flavor of the German food. (Not just meat and potatoes.) They also had food for the kids. The atmosphere was friendly and open. We would definitely go here again.
Hard to choose among many delicious sounding meaty comfort food dishes. We both enjoyed what we had there, and took home enough for several meals as leftovers.
Our family arrived from Atlanta, and we all agreed on "German food" on our way home from the airport. We arrived early, anticipated the worst-they are always busy, and were met with the best of surprises. Despite being early, they seated us, and provided the best service throughout the meal. As always, the food was delicious-just difficult to decide upon because there are always so many choices.
If you love German food, I strongly recommend Speisekammer. It's almost a 2 hour trip through heavy traffic for me but well worth it. Because of the distance, I can't go there as often as I would like. If it was within an hour from my home, I'd be there every week for sure. The sauerbraten in particular, is outstanding.
Food was very good, but location is difficult. Terrible parking. Getting there by Lyft was ok, but getting Lyft pickup was difficult (some drivers seems lost, going wrong way on tracking map). Lyft driver we go came from a long way. Would come here a lot more if they had more parking.
I've been going to Speisekammer for many years now and I've never had a bad meal. If you like a lot of options when it comes to eating pork, this is the place to go. Their list of German beers is outstanding. And the desserts are excellent. My wife and I had the apple struddle with vanilla ice cream, which was outstanding. My brother had the Turkish coffee flavored crem brulee, which may have been a special (so they might not always have it). In the end it cost us about 40 USD each, which was reasonable since we had plenty of leftovers. We also had a bottle of wine that my brother brought (20 USD for corkage).
We arrived right as the dinner service was starting so it was really slow to get our drink order taken and to get those drinks. But once our waiter got into the swing of things the rest of the dinner and service was fantastic!
Good eats! Service was great. Enjoyed the live music but it was very loud so difficult to carry on a conversation.
We love Howell Devine (the band) and the food was great. Thanks.
Great food in a region where there is almost no competition for this cuisine and superb music in a fun setting.
Excellent Authentic German cuisine, great bar with wide range of German beers, wines and imaginative cocktails. Love the live music, happy crowd and very good waitstaff
Very enjoyable! The food was quite good and I appreciated the option for a “small” version of several entrees I.e. one cutlet instead of two. Several options for side dishes that really allows you to customize your meal to your liking. The wine I greatly appreciated the thoughtful notice! We were seated immediately but waited 10 minutes or more before a server approached the table. It also seemed that we waited 20 min or so for food to arrive - perhaps a nod to the slower pace of meals in many European countries?? The food was excellent - each meal came out exactly as we ordered. Would love to go back - lunch on one of the many patio tables would be a real treat on a nice day.
After leaving the restaurant, I received an email from OpenTable that my reservation had been marked “No Show” but that was quickly remedied by OpenTable with the restaurant so I consider that a success.
We had a lovely evening with great food and awesome music.
I hadn’t been in a while and was happy as always with the meal.
Beautiful day on the patio
The food and service are great. The parking is challenging.
I love this place! Good people, good food, always a great time
The 6pc potato pancakes appetizer @ $10.50 is a bit high for an oversized potato chip. A soft potato filling on the inside with a crunch on the outside would have sufficed. It did leave a big mess trying to cut into it.
The Stuffed Cabbage is the main reason we came. It is the 2nd time we came and Speisekammer was completely out. If an item such as this is so popular, more of it needs to be prepped for the evening service. The waitress also did not advise us of the unavailable item until taking our order. It would also be helpful to be advised of this so that those who are committed to one item can make another choice. But again, the best solution is to have enough of an item on the menu to serve everyone.
We had our reservations @ 7:15PM and left about an hour later. At 8PM, the music began. It was nice for the atmosphere. We would have been nice if they started earlier. Also, if a group can play live German Folk music from the Alps with an accordian that would make it even more authentic.
The Peach Cobbler was one of the best desserts we've ever had.
Hope this critique help makes it better.
We visited Speisekammer on July 5. We had a number of dishes, all of them excellent. Servings were good-sized, which meant good value for the price. Service was exceptional. The restaurant has live music on Fridays and Saturdays, so the noise level was moderate. We were still able to carry on conversations while the band played, all the same. Highly recommended.
This was my second time at Speisekammer, and just like the first time, we waited forever for drinks and food. I like the ambience, and I like the food, but the restaurant is way understaffed and simply isn't able to serve people in a reasonable time.
It was my first time at Speisekammer and I was very happy with the food, service and location. I will return again! The other guest in my group also enjoyed the lunch.
Everything was great, though the waiter was a little distracted. He kept forgetting things, though he was always pleasant. The band was VERY LOUD, but also very fun.
Delicious entree, best dessert chef around, terrific service.
Celebrating birthday with family.
surprise, great wine list, too! six happy diners with different tastes and we were all happy-- start to finish
Excellent authentic German food and drink. The only problem is th absolute lack of parking. My wife and I are both handicapped and it is a major problem when we muscular two blocks away.
This restaurant never ceases to delight. The food was superb. Service was a little slow that day, but it was Father's Day so it was understandable. And the meal was worth the brief wait. My friend's JÄGERSCHNITZEL VOM SCHWEIN was in an incredible sauce. My SCHWEINEBRATEN was moist, fork tender and full of flavor. Best Sauerkraut ever!
GREAT AUTHENTIC GERMAN FOOD, Big selection of beers and the coffee was good too. We had a very attentive server with good suggestions for pairing. Parking is a little difficult so go early! A fun experience.
Consistently good. Amazing beer selection. Great staff. Feels like you are in Germany.
