Good ambiance and live music, but food is only mediocre
Quintessential German cuisine and fantastic beer selection.
Great in everything and especially good server..
I lived in Germany for 12 years. This place just doesn’t get it. I ordered Curry Wurst and it was decent sausage covered with an inadequate sauce-read only catsup with no curry taste at all. I’ve had much better at a kiosk in Berlin.
Great authentic German food, terrific beer selection and ambience. Excellent choice for families and small groups.
Happy with yummy Gluten Free dishes and with the good selection of beer and wine.
It was a the perfect place for 9 friends on a Sunday afternoon. Great German food, German beers on draft, and friendly vibe.
Always a wonderful experience at Speisekammer! Food was delicious, but be prepared for a loud experience. Fun for a group and they have a kids menu. Highly recommend.
Great time overall. Wonderful food. Beer was excellent across the board. Can’t wait to go back!!!
We went there after watching Check Please! They did not disappoint. I had the Jagerschnitzel with mushroom gravy - wow! Amazing quality and generous portions. Terrific beer selection. We brought a visiting German and she was very impressed. We’re going back this summer to sit in the beer-garden.
The food at Speisekammer is always wonderful and the service too. One could wish for the installation of some sound-deadening material on the ceilings--but that's really a minor quibble. We were especially happy with the turkey schnitzel and the broiled brussels sprouts.
Great experience as always. Very accommodating for gluten free diners.
Fun great service.
Our mouths were watering for traditional German food and you didn't disappoint. We have put it on our list to come back. I especially liked the beet salad.
We have tried all the German restaurants in the SF Bay Area and this is hands-down our favorite. A wonderful neighborhood restaurant beloved of locals, with that generous gemuchleit feeling I remember from my fav childhood places. Don't miss the potato pancakes - best in town, get the optional sour cream to go with that tart housemade applesauce! Beer selection is much better than most of the hipster places, with really outstanding service (and we don't say that lightly, we are picky about good waitstaff training). No need to reservations at lunch but a necessity for dinner. Parking is manageable; lot is tiny but the neighborhood has a fair amount of parking available within two short blocks of restaurant.
Sunday lunchtime and the restaurant was out of dishes and certain beers. It was my birthday and it was known to the restaurant thru open table and the fact was ignored. I celebrated my birthday at this restaurant for several years and they would always bring out a Strudel with candle. I was disappointed, especially since I spent about $360.00 for lunch.
Our long time favorite. Great German food with great service and wonderful eclectic music on the weekends. And no cover. So, the best of everything
Great German food and beer!
Casual homey vibe, incredible food, fantastic German beer selection. Love this place!
Great service and consistent good food. Has the old world charm with very affordable menu. Especially good when there is music.
Great ambiance and decor, lovely dinner and drink options, and we had a very fancy and romantic Valentine Day dinner. It was thoughtfully curated and not overtly themed as German, so you don’t feel as if you’ve stepped into a Bavarian pub. Fantastic food and service was attentive even on the holiday.
We didn't get menus until after several minutes when we saw the waitress go by that we asked for one. The food was a long time coming and then it was disappointing. I have had really good German food before, this was not it. Unless you just want a beer and pretzel, it's not worth your time.
Service got slow at end of night, maybe they just didnt see empty glasses but they sure picked up empty plates fast... Food was AWESOME and everything else was from great to acceptable
Hidden secret in Alameda
Great to watch sport and enjoy good beer. And good food
Hearty comforting German food in a cozy relaxed atmosphere. The employees are very friendly and recommended we tast some beers before committing to ordering a specific type. I have taken my whole family here and will come back for sure.
Good comfort type food but very slow service (35 minute wait for entrees) and quite noisy. Waitress and staff were both friendly but no one came to say why the food was so late - so maybe this is the norm?
It's hard to plan a date night with two toddlers, but this place was perfect to have a family dinner out. Kids loved it as usual.
On Sunday Jan 27 the food was superb as usual. Service was slow, slow, slow however. And the background music had the bass turned up so loud it was mind-numbing. Parking here is terrible. I almost needed an Uber to get me from where I parked to the restaurant.
The food was solid, tasty German fare. I would have regarded the service as slow had there not been entertainment, but with the band it was fine. Parking is problematic. Plan extra time for it or Uber if you are pretty close.
Love this place! The food is GREAT! Our server really took care of us. I introduced this place to my boyfriend and he loves the food and beer. You gotta try the pretzel with their mustard. It is delish!!! This is our go to place on the weekends.
My wife was watching a food show and this restaurant was on the show. It had good reviews so off we went. It was over a hour drive once we arrived we found out there is no restaurant parking, went inside and asked where do you park was told parking is a problem finally parked in the residential area. The food was good for the price and the portions were big so you won’t go away hungry. Service was ok maybe that was due to how busy they were. Yes I would recommend but make sure you make reservations and give yourself extra time to find parking not sure we will drive the distance again due to no parking. But if you like German food you can’t go wrong
Always a great experience!
We had a great time at Speisekammer! The food was excellent and they had a large selection of German beers. We tried 3 beers and they were all great! The staff was friendly and attentive and also knowledgeable when we asked questions regarding the food and beer. Will go back for sure.
The food and service were exceptional as always. Diners near us were a little louder than usual which made it difficult to have a conversation with others at our table, but that’s not the restaurants fault just rude young people.
This place NEVER disappoints. Amazing food, and excellent bar with a huge selection of German beers, and a cheerful, knowledgeable staff guarantees a good time. Been coming here since the beginning and will continue that trend. Well done, Peter, Cindy, and crew!!!
Good food. Try to get their specials. I always go back to their schnitzels and the German potato salad. Good drinks too
Great meal for restaurant week here in Alameda. Brussels Sprouts appetizer, wild boar hunter’s pie and beef goulash (stew), and their famous apple strudel, ice cream, and schnapps for desert. We go hear a lot, but the restaurant week meal is always a hit (and a good deal)! We washed it down with Bitburger beers!
A favorite neighborhood restaurant...great food....never disappointed.
Slower service due to only one oven being operable. Would have been nice to know immediately so we could have ordered appetizer, rather than finding out 40 minutes into 45 minute wait from ordering until dinner arrived.
Speisekammer has excellent German food and provides an authentic atmosphere. We highly recommend this restaurant!
