Great food, great service, and a great price! Would highly recommend again!
Excellent Spanish food. It tasted just like the food I ate when I was traveling in Spain. Very authentic.
Not a great experience here. Very few vegetarian options. $220 for four people just 2 drinks.
Great menu, so hard to choose. Can’t wait to go back.
Very enjoyable to be back at the Spanish Diner. The food is excellent!
Enjoyed a really good, casual meal with the family. Good service. Good size menu. Only drawback is they have an outdoor seating tent. We were seated on the side where the servers go outside. The door was opened every few minutes. It made for a very cold meal. Other side was empty so I’m not sure why they didn’t seat people on that side.
Recommend anyone to Ask to sit on the other side.
Ate lunch outside under the heater. We had a half pitcher of sangria (good), grilled bread with tomato sauce (meh, skip it), squid cooked in its ink (excellent) and pollo with carmelized onions in a sauce (very tasty). Service was attentive and prompt. They gave us gratis each a cup of a hot drink similar to hot chocolate. We enjoyed our meals and would come back if for no other reason than to support our admiration of Jose Andres!
The food was excellent. The preparation of each - Cogollos de Lechuga a la Cordobesa, Calamares en su Tinta, Pollo Guisado con Arros and Flan de Mama Marisa - made for a memorable meal. The service was excellent! Jose Andres continues to set a high standard.
My daughter and boyfriend went for drinks and appetizers and then brought food home for all of us for dinner. Amazing! So good and we prefer to jaleo. Lots of stews and pasta and sandwiches which were delicious. And the vaccine requirement was enforced!
Everything was fine. The menu is idiosyncratic but clearly it is supposed to be so one can’t really complain about that. I actually preferred Jaleo.
Server was very good. Food was underwhelming and the price was steep. Best parts of the meal were the croquettas, gambas, and the desserts
Had very loud music and annoying dancer. So loud it gave me a headache and it was hard to talk. If i wanted loud live music and other forms of entertainment, I would have gone to a club or show. Not disputing the talent of the performers, but a restaurant is not the place for this. All we wanted to do was chat and eat. Why force this on the diners?
Food was truly amazing but the service was not. Server did not check in much and drinks took a long time and then we ran out of water and had to ask twice to get it refilled. For what you are paying, I would expect more. Good food, pricey and poor service.
Very strange selections on the menu, and nothing we ordered compares to the quality of food at Jaleo.
Hard to make a choice in the extensive menu, because so many of the dishes look delicious. The two of us were pleased with our meal and will return. Another grand slam by Sr. Andres.
Went early and was one of few customers. Able to get table away from other customers. Food was delicious: ordered omelet and hotdog-like sandwich and flan.
The food was quite good, the ambience was nice. I think you have to adjust your expectations to understand this is Spanish food, not Mexican. The traditional dishes were well prepared and tasty. Overall however, I think the food cost more than the value it delivered. That said, it's the only place I know of that you can get good Spanish cuisine. Hope you enjoy!
We had the worst experience ever. I was expecting something much better from a José Andre Restaurant. The menu was limited, the food was very salty and greasy, the waiters was not very informative. Even my husband got sick from the food when we got home. I was very disappointed especially that the food was pricey too.
Our server was outstanding! Food was great as always. But again kudos to the really exceptional service.
I tried again. First visit this summer was for dinner and I left thinking it might be a better place for lunch. Got the signature eggs with potato mixto this time and was again underwhelmed. Eggs were freshly cooked but everything else appeared and tasted as if cooked well in advance. Oil saturated potatoes, small discs of hard morcilla, unappealing presentation. Such a disappointment as I am a huge fan of Andes and Spanish cuisine. Is anyone overseeing the kitchen?
Overpriced tasteless very badly prepared food. Jaleo was the best Spanish dinner ever. This new place was terrible. What a loss to Bethesda diners! It’s a shame!
We had dinner during the week (originally reserved for outside but ate inside because it was not crowded). All the food was wonderful. In particular, we liked the patatas brava and the cod dish. My husband especially enjoyed his after dinner coffee in a very unique cup. We are happy to see that Jaleo has such a great replacement.
Very few dinner menu options other than eggs and sandwiches. An excellent chicken dish saved the evening but we sorely missed Jaleo. Disappointed by menu though what we did have was tasty and well-prepared.
This was our first time at the "new" Spanish Diner (we used to go frequently to the former Jaleo in the same location), and we were more than pleased. The food exceeded our already high expectations. We didn't want the plentiful egg dishes for dinner, but there were plenty of other items on the menu. The piquillo peppers confit, which came with several dishes, were a wonderful surprise. The salads, small plates, and main entrees were all outstanding. Jose Andres has done it again!
We had a wonderful outdoor dinner last night. Food and service were excellent. We had Pan con Tomate and the avocado salad as appetizers, Pollo Guizado and Coliflor con Béchamel as entrees, and Tarta de Chocolate y Queso for dessert. Would absolutely go back again.
Excellent Spanish food, attentive waiters, good spacing of tables. Our first time at Spanish diner, and we will return!
Three of us had a delightful birthday lunch at the Spanish Diner. The croquettes were outstanding. We loved the Russian creamy salad of tuna, potatoes and other good stuff. The squid was a hit. The white sangria with proseco was fabulous. The burnt cheesecake is delicious. Enjoy this gem.
Delicious and well prepared. Will return.
Spectacular comfort food and drink.
We plan to come back to try the rest of the menu.
I was able to navigate the menu more easily with my Spanish speaking friend and enjoyed the meatballs as well as a Spanish omelet with a side of white rice. She had the chickpea soup too which she said is very good.
I did not love the menu. I do not eat meat and there are very few vegetarian or pescatarian options. The hake is accompanied by soft vegetables, which are not palatable to me. The only option was a salad, which as an entree in winter is not very enjoyable. I miss the bread and oil offering of Jaleo, the cod balls, the shrimp and the range of vegetarian options. In addition, I made the mistake of choosing the restaurant when we had our niece with us and there really are no kid-friendly options. Altogether I was disappointed.
Wow!! Mariana Gatto Duran delivered the best service! My daughter and I had a great time and felt great too! We are definitely coming back. I understand Mariana is also a dancer and flamenco performer. Well, say no more, if you have her perform at Spanish Diner, please contact me. Better yet, feel free to make a reservation for three, I authorize you to do it.
Best service and food Have had in a long time.
We’ll see you again soon!
Much of the food was under seasoned, and much as I love Jose Andres and Spanish food, this was pretty disappointing.
We had a fun and festive afternoon at Spanish Diner! The Cava sangria was wonderful, followed by patatas bravas, croquettas, and avocado salad. The avocado salad was surprisingly everyone's favorite with a fresh burst of herbs and citrus. The main dishes were good but no comparison to the small plates and sangria. It was my friend's birthday and we were treated to flan and coffee for dessert by our lovely waiter. We will definitely be back!
The food was very blend, knowing the reputation of the chef ( Jose Andres)our anticipation was for more flavorful meal.
The gazpacho was too salty and tangy. The chicken in the chicken salad was too dry and hard.
The menu includes classics from Jaelo as well authentic Spanish dishes. A great range of soups and stews that I hope to go back soon to try more.
Great service and excellent food.
A nice selection of food, even for the non-egg lover. I had one of the grandmother’s specials—comfort food—and really enjoyed it (chicken thighs).
