SPAGIO Ratings and Reviews
This is a charming place to eat. The atmosphere was perfect. Although the restaurant was full there wasn't the sense of being crowded. The food was excellent and just the right amount to allow room for really decadent desserts.
We dined on a Friday evening. We had a reservation for 8pm and our table was not ready. Being in the restaurant industry myself, this isn't a huge deal. We were sat around 8:20. The restaurant was busy, but nothing alarming. It's a Friday night --- it should be busy. We didn't order alcohol, just sodas. We didn't receive our drinks until after our appetizer was delivered. Then the most disappointing aspect of our meeting. After we ate our appetizer, it took over 45 minutes to receive our main course. Our server was very polite, however, I would have expected a manager to stop by and check-in on us. The food was so-so. At $24-$32 a plate, I was hoping to be wowed.
Whenever we come to Columbus we try to get back to one of our favorite restaurants: Spagio. It's just a comfortable well managed restaurant with some unique dishes. The wood-fired pizzas are great if that's what you're looking for or I love their meatloaf entree, wienerschnitzel. Great martinis. It's a locals favorite and a Grandview tradition.
Extremely disappointing. We went to Spagio's on the occasion of my brother's visit from New Zealand. I had hoped for and anticipated a good meal in a relaxed and relaxing atmosphere. Instead, we waited and waited and waited. Other patrons who arrived after we did were served before we were. The appetizers were slow to come out - that was tolerable. The entrees appeared well over an hour after our arrival and, when they did, one of them (the seafood stew) was cold and the mussels under-cooked. Actually, un-cooked is probably closer to the truth. The wait staff blamed the delay on problems with the pizza oven. This struck me as just something she was told to say since none of us had ordered a pizza. To her credit, the manager apologized for the meal and we weren't charged. That seems fair which is why the overall rating here is "fair". Had there been any hesitation on their part to pick up the tab the overall rating would have been "poor". I can't imagine that I will ever return.
Food was good, price met expectation for the quality. They just seemed understaffed, as water glasses frequently sat empty, bread basket not refilled, didn’t see server except for when food came out. Food was timely. Overall would return and had a nice evening with the family.
Wonderful. Took a friend here for her birthday. Food was superb and the ambiance was wonderful. Our waiter was attentive, but not intrusive. We sat for quite a while just chatting away. Don't forget to order dessert from their many selections. All three that we chose were exceptional!
Spagio is a Columbus institution. The food is always very good. Wood fired vegetables, lobster bisque, pastas, green salads and meat dishes are always good choices. The chicken pot pie and sandwiches are great lunch choices. Sometimes the crab and avocado salad is mushy and waterlogged. Wine and cocktails are very good.
The professional service is excellent. The owners are always present and hospitable.
The art and decor are unique. The back rooms can feel lonely and plain instead of quiet. The clientele has always been more mature than other area restaurants--you won't see a young hipster crowd here. Spagio is great for entertaining and special occasions, and for gathering people with different tastes. They have a kids menu, but the ambiance is more sophisticated casual.
Our waiter was less than helpful when asking questions about the menu. At the end of the evening he just dropped the checks at the table. Extremely rude. It was our guests first visit to Spagio and not a great impression. The quality of our meals saved the evening.
I was not happy with my dining experience at Spagio at all... very disappointing. Our food was not warm, actually quite cold, by the time it arrived at our table and the quality was poor. Our service was also poor, it was as if our waitress was avoiding us or had simply forgotten about our table. We had to track her down everytime we need something, including the check! We were a larger group, but I would have assumed they knew how to manage a table that size.
Have not been to Spagios in over 10 years and I will never go back. Not at all the experience I remember having 10 years ago. Very disappointing.
Went here on a date and the place is very eclectic, to say the least. The service was good but not fabulous as was the food. The pizza was just okay, we like Figlio's wood fired pizzas better and the lobster ravioli was good but not great for the price. The dinner rolls they have are tasty with a crunchy outside. Good place to try out and their desserts looked awesome so might come here for a take out dessert but probably wouldn't come back for dinner again.
Norwegian salmon was pricey, served with skin still on, was a small portion, very salty and not in the least bit appetizing in appearance. How can you miss with meatloaf, yet this one was served with extremely salty gravy. We decided the chef couldn't taste the level of salt she/he was putting in the food. It was terrible.
Great corner table inside, right beside the window. Our server was a bit quick to clear the table... he kept clearing each persons plate as they finished and the ones left felt like they were too slow eating.
HINT!! Wait until the table is done eating to clear it!! Not person by person.
Food was great. Wine list was great too and reasonable prices.
Our evening went off without a hitch. My wife had crab cakes and a chopped salad and I had the Niçoise salad. Both were appropriately large and fresh. The seared Ahi tuna was done just right. We each had dessert, key largo lime tart and Sacher torte. Both were excellent and a nice portion.
Spagio is a tried and true Columbus restaurant. The food is always yummy, service is attentive and the desserts are works of art. The only negative I would say is that the decor needs a refresh to match the fabulous food.
