SPAGIO Ratings and Reviews
Wunderbar! Alles schmeckt gut! I love this place. It's small enough that you feel special and if you like authentic European (German and Alsace) you'll love this place. Makes me feel like I'm in a upscale diner in Germany. And...the desserts! Wow!
Great Service and attention, but sadly the New Years Eve menu was a bit off, and average at best. Below standard on taste, presentation, and quality. When ordering a pasta entree at Spagio, I expect it to be hot, flavorful, fresh, and reasonably portioned. My pasta was a tiny portion, luke warm, bland dish, that I should have returned to the kitchen, backed up by my wife's over portioned, seafood pasta containing random crunchiness (shells), and a not so favorable flavor. Chef Hubert has always been a solid go to in this town, but this holiday dinner fell short of expectations.
We made a NYE reservation at Spagio. First we arrived rather early for our reso - our fault. It was so cold outside that we cut earlier activities short. Knowing it was completely booked for the night, we figured on having to wait awhile. They were able to seat us rather quickly anyway. :) Our waitress was wonderful. The limited NYE menu was perfect for what we were hungry for. Lobster bisque had chunks of yummy lobster! Husband had the prime rib which was perfectly done. I thoroughly enjoyed the shrimp pasta dish. It was a great NYE dinner!
New Years Eve= Busy. I get it. Delayed in greeting once sat, delayed in drink order, salads served almost 1 hour after being sat. Entrees delivered at 2 hrs. The Prime Rib was dry, the scallops were over salted. The hostess and other servers were polite and nice, our server seemed complacent and not engaged. I guess we will stick to the wine side.
We came for dinner on New Year’s Eve, and had a wonderful meal. The only disappointment was the menu was more limited in options than the usual full menu. Also felt a little rushed at the end, almost didn’t get the dessert menu. We’ll still be back!
Everyone had a great time. We all had somethings the same to eat and then many different items. Everything was really good. The coffee is awesome!! We have been going there a long time and the food with service has been right on.
We went to Spagio for Christmas Eve dinner. I ordered the veal piccata at the recommendation of the server. It came out more like what I would call “mystery meat”, not tender and not cooked appropriately. My cousin ordered the same thing and also had the same terrible texture and lack of taste. It was chewy, overdone, and flavorless. Not worth $30. The server asked if I wanted it boxed up when he came to clear my plate, and I said “no thank you, I didn’t care for it.” He was more than kind and comped my meal, but I would not go back. For as expensive as the restaurant is, and they were serving a limited menu that evening, it is not worth it (especially given prior experiences that were not great).
Service was phenomenal - down to recommendations and descriptions of anything we asked, whether food or drinks. Calamari was cooked perfectly and delicious! Great for a date - not too loud, but able to still carry on a nice conversation. The decor was a little dated and the restrooms could stand to be updated. Great drinks list too!
Always a pleasure to dine there. Absolutely one of our favorites. The pumpkin bisque was excellent. Would have preferred pepitas (without the shells) a very minor annoyance. Other than that, the dinner was excellent / outstanding. The Salmon was divine as well as was the crab cake dinner, chopped salad and rolls. Not to mention the triple mousse, creme brulee and fresh berries we had for dessert. Hot tea selection was great. We will be back without a doubt.
Food and drink were not good. Wine glass was dirty. Ordered lamb, medium rare (as I always do, and know what it should look like) and it was served raw with just a sear, sent it back, and it came out 'mostly' raw again. The part that was edible, was bland. Mussels were just OK.
Enjoyed our second trip to Spaggio. On both occasions the food was well prepared with a wide assortments of choices. The braised short rib was well prepared although it was a little too salty. My only complaint is with the seating as in most restaurants, they seated us next to other customers when there were many other vacant tables. Otherwise, the service was acceptable and the food was very good, albeit a little pricey. Will return.
