Had a great meal last night. Highly recommend the Southpaw sauce!!
Best BBQ in San Francisco, paws down. Favorite wings in the world.
Food overall good. Service great.
Everything took extremely long to come out of the kitchen but was delicious
I dunno. Food was very tasty - bigger than necessary portions. Service was amazing - I arrived 15 minutes late for our reservation; my husband had already finished an appetizer but our server was unphased and picked up the pace without making me feel rushed. The thing that is perhaps stopping me from racing about this place is the metal trays and decor - I couldn’t stop thinking I was eating at a KFC. Does down-home cooking have to mean downscale dining?
Awesome shrimp & grits! Phenomenal Carolina sauce and the pulled chicken is incredible.
Great meal, great drinks, great service. Really helpful to have had a reservation. Definitely recommend!
Horrible service. Food wasn’t bad, drinks seemed good - never had the chance to order a second. Had to fight to just get and pay the bill!
Food wasn't as good as my previous time at Southpaw. I had the pulled chicken--just okay--others had brisket, which they said was better. Sides and appetizers were pretty good. They really shine with the whiskey selection, and our server gave a great recommendation.
Great spot for BBQ. Kids love the southpaw BBQ sauce. Good beers and cocktails too.
They were able to take a reservation for our large party and accommodate one extra guest. Food was tasty and felt like a good value overall.
Southpaw is awesome. Great food, and great ambiance. Make sure to go with the pulled pork
Service was excellent and staff was very accommodating. Drink suggestions were spot on. We traveled in from Connecticut to take our son out for dinner and were thrilled until the food came. I've eaten a fair amount of Bar-b-Que and have never had such fatty meats. The brisket was all fat and the ribs were half fat. Too bad because the place has great potential.
Great BBQ, good vibe place. Excellent cocktails.
The ribs were amazing!!
Easily one of the best BBQs in SF. I love the place and need to get the brisket every time. Good beer and good cocktails as well!
Went to this place for the beer but the food was a fantastic surprise. Loved the grits! The brisket was tender and full of flavour. All four of us really enjoyed our food. The place is small and crowded but worth it because of the food. The service was excellent! Loved it and would highly recommend it for any meat eater that loves barbecue.
pulled pork very vinegary, but the brisket was great, so we're the sweet potato tots. huge whiskey selection, and lots of craft beers, great service but crowded on game days. nobody there but us mid afternoon
Overall, it's a cool spot. They brew their own beer and have interesting signature cocktails. My son/husband had ribs mac/cheese, Bacon & Cheddar Grit Cake, baked beans. I the pulled pork, Garlic Roasted Broccoli & Cauliflower and Sweet Potato Tater-Tots. Corn bread came with all dishes and they didn't include any butter. Drinks all good; nice selection of signature cocktails. Service was kinda spotty but very nice staff. Expensive but you get a lot of food for the money.
Recommend: pulled pork, roasted veggies, tots, grit cake, baked beans
Do Not Recommend: ribs (fatty), mac/cheese (got a little nasty when cooled down)
We might go back, but 4505 has better quality ribs.
Fun! Yummy for vegetarians with the sides & portobello mushroom BBQ.
The food is tasty, solid cocktail selection, beer on tap including some quite nice house brew. It is a good place for casual catching up with friends. Although it is a BBQ place, there are nice veg options as well. The manager is especially nice and recognized me only after one previous visit. I will definitely come here when I'm back in SF.
It was a good experience overall. I was expecting more from the chicken wings, but the brisket was phenomenal . Hands down the best I've had.
The restaurant was busy for a Sunday night, but we did not have to wait to be seated. The host and our server were both kind and attentive. And the food was DEEEE-LICIOUS. I loved the baby back ribs and especially the bacon-cheddar grits cake. I'll be returning soon.
I always love Southpaw, best cocktail ever- Safeword
Went with my wife and daughters for a Beer Week event, and we were blown away by the quality of the meat. We've done the whole 4505/Smokin' Warehouse/Gorilla circuit and love them all, but Southpaw was memorable -- especially the brisket and the back ribs. I don't normally favor Carolina-style sauce but Southpaw's was just right. Attentive service on a busy hectic night, a friendly vibe, lively but not painfully noisy, and a great beer selection. We'll try the cocktails and desserts next time, but, hey, it was Beer Week.
Yummy barbecue! We had the brisket and pulled pork sandwich and both were moist and delicious.
Food just ok. Ran out of the goat :(
We gave Southpaw a try after having been a few years ago. Overall I like the space and they have a phenomenal whiskey list and good beers. The ribs were great, their chicken was slightly above average and their brisket was not good. Their brisket was dry (and had the mix of fatty/lean) and tasted/resembled roast beef vs. brisket.
I realize good BBQ is hard to find in California, and while it's fine in a pinch, for the price it misses the mark.
Excellent, traditional, North Carolina BBQ - best pulled pork in SF! It's also surprisingly vegan friendly and the pulled jackfruit and pulled seitan are delicious. The biggest seller for me is a toss up between the HUGE whiskey selection and the service. They are both top-notch.
The barbecue here is outstanding, as are the fun side dishes, particularly the bacon/cheese grit cake and the tater tots made with sweet potatoes. I ordered the half chicken, which was delicious, but the clear winner is the brisket--tender, smoky, and yummy--which some others at our table ordered. Table is stocked with four different kinds of BBQ sauce, all of them very good.
Only complaint is the location. Not on the best block on Mission, but worth braving the sketchy neighborhood for the food. Highly recommend.
EPIC-quality BBQ -- the brisket may be the best in the history of the world. GREAT beer, brewed on prem. INNOVATIVE mixology, and a whiskey list as long as your arm. THOUGHTFUL, fun, perky, helpful staff.
Southpaw is a consistent favorite. The BBQ is great, service friendly, and the best Bourbon cocktail I've ever found- Safe word is amazing!
If you love ribs, this is the place. Each entree comes with two delicious sides. I strongly recommend the mac &cheese and the sweet potato tots.
Great food and drink options. Cool decor. Great BBQ and awesome sauces.
Pulled pork was excellent as was house made heffeweisen
The sound system is annoying. We were seated at the communal table by the door and the TV sound was echoing loudly. We ended up not enjoying our meal and left with a headache.
Took my regular industry posse here, there were 6 of use, we all had a really good time. Cocktail program is outstanding, as is the ethic in the front of the house, this is North Carolina smoked BBQ, none of that finger licking stuff....
Drinks are great, and the deviled eggs are amazing. I've been here a few times and each time I hope that the BBQ will be amazing. It's just OK... so as much as I want to go back over and over, I imagine I'll find myself searching out other BBQ spots in the future before returning here.
Great honest food. Great ribs, plenty of portion. They brew their own beer which was a nice touch.
Don't expect a posh night, just an honest place for some ribs and beer.. Football on the screen. Great.
Don't order the wine.
Some of the best Carolina BBQ that I've ever had. In a word, legit. The ribs and brisket are not to be missed. If you can get the pork tacos, don't hesitate. Drinks are also superior. More whiskers available than there are days in the year. Great vibe, great service and a dedication to excellence. Not to be missed! At last, San Francisco has true BBQ!
