The menu consists of a wide range of options, including several vegetarian meals. Popular dishes include Korean fried chicken, bulgogi burger, dumplings and buns, kimchi, and beef tartar. In addition to the delectable cuisine, Southgate offers an extensive drink menu that includes cocktails, wine, spirits and an extensive craft beer list.
Took my girlfriend there for her Birthday and we both loved the food! The bibimbap and dumplings were great! The staff was very nice, there was a kitchen delay so they brought out some kimchi and another small appetizer while we waited which wasn’t long. I’ll definitely come back next time I’m in Philadelphia!
The food was so good! They were still serving the restaurant week menu so we got to try several dishes. They even had kid-friendly options. I can't wait to go back and try the chicken sandwich, which looked amazing. We had the soba salad, vegetable pajeon, beef bibimbap, galbi jjim (short rib), and fish & chips. Everything was delicious.
The food is so delicious! Everyone in our group devoured their meals.
We were really early for our reservation and they were able to seat us (8 people).
Steps to lower level to get to the bathrooms was kind of narrow and steep, but just pay attention and don't go to fast.
Food was terrible. Ordered the bibimbap bowl and it tasted and smelled like pet food. Will not go back.
My friend and I went to brunch on a Sunday morning. We were the only diners the entire time we were there. The food was average at best, but the service was great!
Been here many times. Interesting menu with Korean influences. Best burger and excellent wings.
The hot stone pot with seafood is awesome.
Good cocktails , beer selection and sonju (like Sake)
Try it but make a reservation as it gets busy
"Korean fried chicken" is not authentic, it was just over-fried hammered chicken wings, not the crispy yet juicy wings they should be. Calamari was mostly batter and little calamari. Brussels were over-sweetened. Bibimbop was only very good dish we had.
A tiny, wonderful jewel box of a restaurant. The food was delicious and when the bill came, the total was so low that my husband and I vowed to come back every week (if only we didn’t have kids...)
Food was awful. Kimchee was rancid, KFC chicken was heavy, short ribs were dry.
Outstanding flavors, great value, fun atmosphere. I’d definitely go back to try more things on he menu.
The food was absolutely PHENOMENAL! Exceeded my expectations and my sister and I ordered a bunch of appetizers to split. The vegetable mandoo, Korean fried chicken wings, vegetable panjeon, kimchi fries and the short rib bao buns... loved them all! The “handmaiden” was our drink of choice and it was also fantastic. Our server was nice and attentive, I will sure be back!
Another great dining experience at SouthGate. Awesome Korean-American fusion menu with great cocktails and specials.
Southgate is an amazing spot! Infused soju and the Korean Fried Chicken (KFC) are a must!
The food surpassed my expectations! I will 100% be coming back.
Creative menu for brunch. Tasty and good size portions.
Best chicken wings ever.
I went to brunch here and sat outside with two of my friends. Food was absolutely delicious and came pretty quickly. Also great service, the waiter came around frequently to refill our glasses and was knowledgable about the menu when I asked about food containing nuts ( I have an allergy).
Food and service are fabulous!!! I am never disappointed when I eat this exceptional food.
Great food, interesting cocktails
Casual eatery that has a lively - bd somewhat noisy - vibe. Creative Korean menu that includes vegetarian and vegan options. Fried chicken sandwich was awesome. Very large portions.
Great happy hour - and loads of outdoor seating; nice space inside as well in case of inclement weather!
Great drinks good food. The stone bowl was outstanding! The flavors were developed and the dish was filling.
I've been here for brunch and dinner. I LOVED the dinner but brunch was not on the same level I would say. The green tea waffle had a baking soda type after taste which isn't very pleasant for me. Everything else including the citron non-alcoholic beverage was great! Service is excellent!
Served my main dish (a seafood soup) without any seafood!
Wonderful dining experience. The flavors in both the food and beverages were enticing. If you enjoy a hint of spice to warm your palate and add to the flavors, Southgate has there sauces down pat.
I include the beverages as part of the overall experience because of some of the unique options available. I elected one of the unique options, graciously explained by our waiter, who also provided myself and guest with exceptional service, and throughly enjoyed a whole other experience.
Overall I would definitely go back again with friends, on a date, or just to try another beverage. Nice work Southgate Restaurant it's been a long time since I've really enjoyed a restaurant experience.
This is a cute little place with good food. We enjoyed everything we ate and I appreciated the gluten free options.
We had drinks and dinner before a show at Plays and Players Theater. Great beer selection and excellent food.
Nice ambiance, quiet enough to have a cute date or conversation with friends. But small, not good for big groups. Food was not korean. More like a fusion and very Americanized. The pork belly is really hard to mess up, but it was very gamy. Weird. Not good. The la galbi was ok, but I don’t think they washed the meat bc there was a lot of pieces of bone pieces within the meat. The seafood hot pot or dol sut was very under seasoned and hard to finish. Also very watery and mushy. The dumpling was not good. As a korean, bit disappointed.
One of my favorite spots in the City!
I love korean food. I feel like the flavors lacked. I ordered the hot stone bowl and I wasn't tasting any of those typical korean flavors. That said, the ambiance and environment was pretty cool. If you're going to hang out with some friends and have a good time it's a good spot. If you're looking for amazing korean flavors, this is not that.
Fun scene. Delicious food and excellent service. The restaurant is managed extremely well and the staff goes out of its way to accommodate.
The manager was amazing. We used open table during restaurant week and there was an issue on the website. So they called us immediately and let us know. They also gave us credit for when we decided to come in which was this past weekend. Food was amazing service was amazing and the manager followed up with us to see how everything was. Amazing experiences and amazing restaurant!
Food was better about a year ago, something changed
A group of 6 of us went to Southgate for New Year's Eve dinner. I had been to Southgate several times before but mostly for happy hour or snacks. The whole experience was wonderful - the food was fantastic, the staff was accommodating, and we all had a really fun time. Will definitely be going to this neighborhood spot more frequently.
Excellent food ! Flavors jump off the plate with Korean spices that can be attention grabbing. The boa and Korean fried chicken are not to be missed, the short rib spicy noodle soup, will warm anyone from any temperature !
I will return again.
The food and service are amazing. The staff couldn't be any nicer or more accommodating. The place is a bit on the small (tight) side and there's no parking near there. However, we thoroughly enjoyed our meal. Definitely get the KFC appetizer. We also got the short rib buns and the pork belly lettuce wraps. All outstanding. For dinner our group got the bibimbap, the japchae and the bulgogi burger. Again, all were excellent. Our bill for 5 people with drinks (which we did a lot of) was very reasonable.
I went with 9 friends! It was great. We were only people in there for first hour for Sunday brunch. Hidden gem! My friends cannot stop talking about the hot sauce. I loved the burger. One of best I’ve ever had
Everything was amazing! From the service to the food. I even got a little sauce on my light colored dressed and the waiter gave me a tide to go pen to get out the stain. We will be going back!
