The menu consists of a wide range of options, including several vegetarian meals. Popular dishes include Korean fried chicken, bulgogi burger, dumplings and buns, kimchi, and beef tartar. In addition to the delectable cuisine, Southgate offers an extensive drink menu that includes cocktails, wine, spirits and an extensive craft beer list.
ssamjang mayo, house pickles, brioche, fries
bacon, onions, cheese, vinaigrette
One of our favorite meals in Philadelphia. My wife is Korean and has specific taste for Korean food, and she was blown away by how good everything was. She got the Bulgogi burger and I got the Seoul hot chicken sandwich and both were awesome. The fries were really good too. I would highly recommend the mystery beer, as it was only 4 bucks and turned out to be a really good beer, although I'm sure it's probably different every time. Mine was definitely more like an 8 dollar beer though. The server was awesome as well, and we can't wait to go back!
Amazing Korean food. Nice dinner place. Highly recommendable.
One of my favorite local spots. Great happy hour menu. Always solid
Overall, solid spot! We were initially disappointed to hear that brunch had not been available since Covid, as that was our main reason for going, but we quickly moved on because that’s life and we were hungry. We sat outside and they turned on the heat lamps for us which helped since it was pretty chilly. If it’s cold, dress warmly.
We ordered hot toddy’s which were strong and when those finally warmed us up my partner got a bold fashioned which she really enjoyed and I got the special cocktail which happened to be the sassy girl that day (good, but probably nothing to write home about.)
I should note that the menu is a bit limited, but the dishes we ordered were great and came out very quickly. The spicy cumbers were a perfect light app & we wished we’d ordered another pork bao bun. The bibimbap and bulgogi burger came out shortly after and both were tasty. The service was consistent and responsive & our server was happy to answer our questions and make recommendations.
Although the limited menu and outdoor setup, which offers little protection from the elements, might not make it the most ideal first date spot -this would be a good casual spot to try with friends, colleagues or your significant other. I would definitely return in the future.
Had a pretty good experience. They were quick to bring out the food and also put up heat lamps for my group. The food was awesome. We had the burger of the month and it was a great deal.
AMAZING FOOD and DRINKS! Love the KFC mixed wings, burger, delicious fries and BiBimbop! Amazing service and outdoor dining was warm, lively, and comfortable! LOVE THIS PLACE!!!
Great spot in the neighborhood! We always have a great experience. Thank you, keep it up 😊
Great food and overall experience. Would definitely recommend one of their craft cocktails and the Brussels sprouts
Excellent food and service! The fries and Brussels sprouts are especially good!
Can book at 8:30 PM Reservation but the restaurant closes at 9 PM. Go there at 8:40 PM (awaiting for guests) and could not sit for a meal. Would recommend getting rid of the 30 minutes before closing seat times.
We were pleased upon arrival that they had a set up for outdoor seating that seemed distant, warm, and not fully enclosed - qualities we look for during COVID when we want outdoor seating. We had a reservation and when we checked in, they set up a new table for us beyond original configuration. This new table didn’t have any heat source, but they assured us that they were working to bring something out. A few minutes later, they brought out a small heat source no higher than our ankles that couldn’t supply enough warmth for one of us let alone both of us and wind had burned out the fire from it twice. While sitting, we witnessed several couples after us be told to wait to be seated in warm areas, something we were not given an option of. When we tried to talk to our waiter about it, he didn’t listen and walked away from us in the middle of us explaining that we had a reservation and would have rather been told to wait 10-15 minutes for a warm seat rather than be seated in the cold. After we had watched 4 couples finish their meals and leave and 2 new couples be sat down, we had asked our waiter if we could move to one of the remaining two warm seats. He had told us people had reserved those tables, which we argued we had reservations and should’ve been treated in a similar way. Eventually we were finally told we were able to move to a warm table, though this was after our appetizer was finished and 1.5 of our 2 meals had been eaten. Appreciatively, they did comp our appetizer when the bill arrived, though this was the first and only indication of an apology for the situation.
Overall we were pretty disappointed with the wait staff and their way of handling our situation, especially since we had a reservation. The food was good, but due to sitting in the cold and wind (factors avoided in the original configuration of seats), we had to eat quickly or our food was cold - another issue we faced when our entrees were brought out before our appetizer was done.
We had a fantastic experience. Can't wait to go back.
Very good food and service. Friendly waiter, drinks served quickly, and the food was amazing. Will definitely be back. Also a good price point for the quality of food they are serving.
Superb meal and drinks, and phenomenal service as always! Tried the Bold Fashioned (Old Fashioned with Tequila, among other things) - one of the best OF's I've ever had. Last time I had the Old Boy which is killer but this OF will be my new go to, after a citywide of course. Oh yeah, Southgate has a great citywide - ice cold Kirin and a soju. Anyway, beers were cold, soju and cocktails were strong, and the burgers and bibimbap were delicious.
Also, the fried chicken. With Bonchon's wing quality falling by the wayside over the last year I think Southgate may have one of the best in the city right now. They are super crispy, thick and juicy, and out of this world flavorful, especially the spicy flavor. Soy is good too. Honestly get them both and alternate, that's the way to do it.
My go to neighborhood spot. Food is always on point and the service is quick and friendly
Food and service was exceptionally well. Would go again
Best Korean food I have found since being in Seoul!
came for a few apps and drinks- service was extremely kind and the food was SO flavorful! We will be back for a full meal!
Always love Southgate. Kimchi fries are my favorite.
The food was fantastic and portion size is generous! They also have a happy hour menu which honestly isn't super extensive but the featured burger definitely felt worth the value. Overall, absolutely loved it here!
One of our favorite places to eat in the neighborhood
While the food menu is relatively small, the end result is food that ends up being really good. The bibimbap is great.
Southgate was absolute fire. KILLER service (Evan was our server - cool dude), killer food (bulgogi and kimchi burgers were out of this world).
Also, the fired chicken was to die for, and the drinks were VERY reasonably priced. The Southgate Citywide was perfect ($6 for a Kirin Draft and a shot of soju).
We WILL be back, and with reinforcements. There are clearly wings and citywides to be crushed!
The food was cold. This was probably because it was outdoor dining but it came out cold and because it was cold outside, we just wanted to leave without saying anything.
Great place for date night or catching up with your bestie.
I went there for my birthday and it was great! The drinks are really good and the portions are large for the price.
Solid casual restaurant. Great for those who aren’t very familiar with Korean food, and very patient servers.
great food and drinks, wonderful service...
everything is delicious...
service at the bar was also exceptional...
highly recommend +++++
My dolsot bibimbap was a little burnt which made it taste a bit off. I did ask the bowl to be extra hot, so I probably brought it upon myself. Otherwise the meal was great!
Everything was excellent. Our server, Evan, was great!!
Great food, great service. One of the dishes was very slightly burnt but otherwise everything was delicious, and the staff was very helpful and friendly
Food is great. Cocktails are great. My one complaint....an hour wait for my tables despite a confirmed reservation. I walked in that night, saw every table filled to capacity and thought there's no way they're seating us any time soon. Every time slot within a 2 hour window of my reservations was open on Opentable. They obviously overbooked. A 10-15 minute wait is no big deal. An hour? And to top it off, when our table did finally open up, it just sat there and it took someone another 10 minutes to escort us to the table. They comped a round of drink while we waited, but honestly, I would have preferred getting seated sooner. They need to manage their bookings better.
This was the perfect place to meet a friend for good drinks and wonderful Korean small plates. The staff was super friendly too.
I gave superlative ratings on all measures for this casual yet intriguing restaurant.
I only took a star off because service felt a little rushed— but otherwise everyone was very friendly and food was great as always.
I’ve been here before without any issue. But my most recent visit, I ordered the fish and chips, they were terrible. The fish was not fully cooked. I sent back . It was cooked but bland. It was served with a sweet sauce I did not like and this was also on the fries. No good
Besides that , the service was great and the vibe was great too. I would go back!
Loved Southgate. Food and service were excellent. The soy wings were so good. Everyone had a great time. We will be back.
Service and food consistently great. South gate is our neighborhood favorite! Must get the Bibimbop!
A really great experience with very good menu and excellent food. Service is very attentive too. Most surprised by the close quarters; it's a much smaller space than expected. Even with that, highly recommend Southgate.
Food is consistently good ! Drinks are always delicious and the staff is always friendly. I love the Southgate fries !
