The menu consists of a wide range of options, including several vegetarian meals. Popular dishes include Korean fried chicken, bulgogi burger, dumplings and buns, kimchi, and beef tartar. In addition to the delectable cuisine, Southgate offers an extensive drink menu that includes cocktails, wine, spirits and an extensive craft beer list.
I only took a star off because service felt a little rushed— but otherwise everyone was very friendly and food was great as always.
I’ve been here before without any issue. But my most recent visit, I ordered the fish and chips, they were terrible. The fish was not fully cooked. I sent back . It was cooked but bland. It was served with a sweet sauce I did not like and this was also on the fries. No good
Besides that , the service was great and the vibe was great too. I would go back!
Loved Southgate. Food and service were excellent. The soy wings were so good. Everyone had a great time. We will be back.
Service and food consistently great. South gate is our neighborhood favorite! Must get the Bibimbop!
A really great experience with very good menu and excellent food. Service is very attentive too. Most surprised by the close quarters; it's a much smaller space than expected. Even with that, highly recommend Southgate.
Food is consistently good ! Drinks are always delicious and the staff is always friendly. I love the Southgate fries !
Everything on the menu is Fantastic. Service is top notch.
A solid neighborhood place with a limited menu of Korean and Korean-type dishes carefully prepared. Nice selection of Korean soju, including some house-made infusions. Interesting cocktails.
Good food and good vibe!!
This is our go-to spot in Grad Hospital. Never disappoints.!
I was pleasantly surprised by the quality and presentation of the food. I have walked past on many occasions , however I didn't realize the cuisine was Korean / American. A nice assortment of both. I must come back to the try the small plate happy hour options.
Had reservations through our trusted Open Table. Waited at the bar for 45 minutes to be seated for our reservation. Clearly they over booked. Food was ok. Feel like they rushed our food thinking that would make us happy. Sent our food back because it wasn’t well prepared . All in all, we won’t go back. It just isn’t that good
Southgate was a great experience, both food and service were wonderful. The wings are to die for, so crispy and full of flavor. The vegetable dumplings were a little underwhelming but everything else, burger, wings, drinks were so good.
Had a great dinner here; really good food, service and value in a friendly neighborhood setting. They have a nice selection of draft beers and other drinks and it's clearly a favorite of locals. Enjoyed the tofu bi bim bap, which was really flavorful, fresh and big portion, and my dining partners like their entrees and appetizers.
Food was excellent. My husband has a gluten allergy and they were able to accommodate him wonderfully. Absolutely would go back the next time we are in Philly. Quite a gem!
Took my girlfriend there for her Birthday and we both loved the food! The bibimbap and dumplings were great! The staff was very nice, there was a kitchen delay so they brought out some kimchi and another small appetizer while we waited which wasn’t long. I’ll definitely come back next time I’m in Philadelphia!
The food was so good! They were still serving the restaurant week menu so we got to try several dishes. They even had kid-friendly options. I can't wait to go back and try the chicken sandwich, which looked amazing. We had the soba salad, vegetable pajeon, beef bibimbap, galbi jjim (short rib), and fish & chips. Everything was delicious.
The food is so delicious! Everyone in our group devoured their meals.
We were really early for our reservation and they were able to seat us (8 people).
Steps to lower level to get to the bathrooms was kind of narrow and steep, but just pay attention and don't go to fast.
Food was terrible. Ordered the bibimbap bowl and it tasted and smelled like pet food. Will not go back.
My friend and I went to brunch on a Sunday morning. We were the only diners the entire time we were there. The food was average at best, but the service was great!
Been here many times. Interesting menu with Korean influences. Best burger and excellent wings.
The hot stone pot with seafood is awesome.
Good cocktails , beer selection and sonju (like Sake)
Try it but make a reservation as it gets busy
"Korean fried chicken" is not authentic, it was just over-fried hammered chicken wings, not the crispy yet juicy wings they should be. Calamari was mostly batter and little calamari. Brussels were over-sweetened. Bibimbop was only very good dish we had.
A tiny, wonderful jewel box of a restaurant. The food was delicious and when the bill came, the total was so low that my husband and I vowed to come back every week (if only we didn’t have kids...)
Food was awful. Kimchee was rancid, KFC chicken was heavy, short ribs were dry.
Outstanding flavors, great value, fun atmosphere. I’d definitely go back to try more things on he menu.
The food was absolutely PHENOMENAL! Exceeded my expectations and my sister and I ordered a bunch of appetizers to split. The vegetable mandoo, Korean fried chicken wings, vegetable panjeon, kimchi fries and the short rib bao buns... loved them all! The “handmaiden” was our drink of choice and it was also fantastic. Our server was nice and attentive, I will sure be back!
Another great dining experience at SouthGate. Awesome Korean-American fusion menu with great cocktails and specials.
Southgate is an amazing spot! Infused soju and the Korean Fried Chicken (KFC) are a must!
The food surpassed my expectations! I will 100% be coming back.
Creative menu for brunch. Tasty and good size portions.
Best chicken wings ever.
I went to brunch here and sat outside with two of my friends. Food was absolutely delicious and came pretty quickly. Also great service, the waiter came around frequently to refill our glasses and was knowledgable about the menu when I asked about food containing nuts ( I have an allergy).
Food and service are fabulous!!! I am never disappointed when I eat this exceptional food.
Great food, interesting cocktails
Casual eatery that has a lively - bd somewhat noisy - vibe. Creative Korean menu that includes vegetarian and vegan options. Fried chicken sandwich was awesome. Very large portions.
Great happy hour - and loads of outdoor seating; nice space inside as well in case of inclement weather!
Great drinks good food. The stone bowl was outstanding! The flavors were developed and the dish was filling.
I've been here for brunch and dinner. I LOVED the dinner but brunch was not on the same level I would say. The green tea waffle had a baking soda type after taste which isn't very pleasant for me. Everything else including the citron non-alcoholic beverage was great! Service is excellent!
Served my main dish (a seafood soup) without any seafood!
Wonderful dining experience. The flavors in both the food and beverages were enticing. If you enjoy a hint of spice to warm your palate and add to the flavors, Southgate has there sauces down pat.
I include the beverages as part of the overall experience because of some of the unique options available. I elected one of the unique options, graciously explained by our waiter, who also provided myself and guest with exceptional service, and throughly enjoyed a whole other experience.
Overall I would definitely go back again with friends, on a date, or just to try another beverage. Nice work Southgate Restaurant it's been a long time since I've really enjoyed a restaurant experience.
