Located on the edge of Rittenhouse Square and Graduate Hospital neighborhoods of Philadelphia, SouthGate is a twist on the traditional gastropub. Elevating food and drink in a modern but approachable way, the menu and the décor of Southgate are heavily influenced by both our Korean roots as well as modern American culture, preferring to be interesting and friendly rather than trendy.

The food was wonderful, imaginative and well prepared. Our server, Noel, was knowledgeable and took great care of us. He is a delightful person. The noise level was a bit higher than we liked (all the tables are near the bar, and there was a boisterous happy hour), but it varied enough that it was not oppressive. A great place.

This was our first time at South Gate. The food was absolutely delicious and the wait staff was so friendly and answered all of our questions with patience and charm. We had a wonderful experience and would happily go back!

Service was excellent. I thought the food was very good as well. We went very early so there were not many other diners. I will go back to try the ramen. We ordered too many dishes, so no room for Ramen this time.

Beautiful early evening dinner celebrating Father’s Day. Perfect laid back setting, very chill. Food and cocktails were excellent as always. And our waiter (forget his name) was just the best, impeccable and friendly service. We passed on dessert until the next time but loved the selections, very creative. Remains one of our favorites!

I dined here for the first time on Thursday and our server, Michael, was so amazing that I now am making this my official to go to spots in Philadelphia just for Michael’s outstanding service and making my first experience here memorable. The happy hour was amazing and fairly priced. For happy hour, I got the soju punch which was refreshing and the bao buns that were soft and tasty. I ordered more things off menu as well. I got the Korean fried chicken, both soy and spicy which were made to perfection and had the perfect balance of being crispy on the outside and tender on the inside. I highly recommend getting them! I also got the miso shrimp salad that was made to share and the shrimps were HUGE. They had an amazing selection of soju that Michael recommended some for me and my party, and surprised us with a delicious dessert that had some sliced chocolate mini cakes and a fluffy whipped cream. Thank you Michael for such a perfect Thursday afternoon!

Cannot love this place more. The food is always delicious and there is something for everyone. We had the fried chicken (half and half), the cheeseburger and fries (some of the best!), vegetable mandu (the best) and tofu tacos, and the shrimp bibimbap. I think their bibimbap is the best in the city (fight me). Everything was so yummy and filling. The drinks are strong and so interesting! Can’t wait to go back.

Southgate was an amazing eat in philly. Great atmosphere, small but chill vibe for a Friday night. The food was great with a flare of Korean classics. The Korean fried chicken was crispy and delicious. The hot bimbimbop and the beef tacos were also amazing in their own ways. Would recommend it in a heartbeat!
