Our go to for Southern Cooking in Bloomington. Great Food and Great service.
My family had reservations for Easter at 12:30. It was after 2:00 before we received any food. If we had received our food, and it had actually been good, this review may have gone a different way. Unfortunately, my father’s tiny steak (steak & eggs special) was cold, my husband’s shrimp and grits tasted like leftovers heated up in a dirty pan, and they lacked Andouille sausage, one of the listed ingredients. Even with 50% off of our meal, the food was not worth what we paid. Absolutely ridiculous. We will never be back.
Reserved a table for Easter Brunch. We were seated immediately upon arrival and ordered shortly thereafter. The food was great and tasted delicious as everything had a bit of spice adding flavor to the food. One dish of biscuits and gravy had to be sent back to the kitchen to be reheated. The real issue was with service. Didn't seem like there were enough servers leaving our server somewhat flustered and perhaps a bit absent minded. When she brought the coffee, she didn't bring any cream or sugar nor a spoon with which to stir it. When she brought the bloody marys, we had to chase after her for some straws. One of our guests ordered a side of sausage which we had to inquire about but arrived so late we asked that it be returned to the kitchen without having to pay for it. When we asked to have the bill divided between two couples, the bills were not only divided inappropriately, we were charged for the sausage she said she wouldn't charge us for. Don't get me wrong, the food was good but service was lacking; it's my understanding that this is true of a lot of places right now due to the current pandemic as there are not enough people willing to do the job. For two of us, this is our first visit and will likely give Southern Stone a second chance. Can't speak for the other couple as it was their second time and they said the service was lacking the first time the went as well (also during the pandemic).
Was the perfect afternoon and the food was excellent!!
The food was great and the service was outstanding. No leftovers at our table! We will definitely return!
Wine was excellent. Appetizers were very good. Meal were very good except for crab cakes they were over cooked. We will return
The service staff was great. The food was quite good and I thought the prices for brunch were very reasonable.
Chicken and waffles were the best ever!
menu is really small, very limited options. food was okay but not worth the price
Food and service were outstanding, we will definitely be going back!
Could find nothing to fault. Great service, food & consideration of social distancing.
Everyone should eat here-fabulous food and fabulous service.
Food was amazing! Everything tasted delicious and the apple butter with the cornbread was to die for. Beautiful on the inside
The service was delightful and the food was delicious!
It is like a morgue in there. So cold I could not relax to enjoy my meal. Even our waiter was cold. My meal was cold halfway through due to temperature. Server was excellent and meal didn’t taste too bad. Just really couldn’t enjoy it.
Cute place. Not very busy. Food was fine. Waiter mentioned that the soups were gross. Not a positive feedback for a diner.
Nice restaurant with southern cuisine. Two people ordered the hamburger which we had read was great. Sadly both found it to be dry and not very flavorful. We chose to eat here because it offered some gluten free options and they took reservations. Not sure we’d go back because it’s not close enough to the IU campus to walk to. They did have tables adequately spaced and followed all covid guidelines.
We came here for my birthday. The food was amazing, drinks were tasty, and the service was great! The beignets were to die for!
Took my mom for her birthday. Had never been before and we opted to sit outside. The deco is farmhouse style and the menu has a Southern charm to it. Not many places have collard greens on their menu, and if they do, they don’t know how to cook them, but Southern Stone has got them figured out! We also enjoyed the fried green tomatoes and catfish bites. Our main course was the shrimp po’ boy. Great flavor and plenty of it. We each took half a sandwich home. They do need to work on their sweet tea. It clearly was not Southern style...I think it was regular tea with a little simple syrup added.
While the food and service were good, the traffic noise near the patio was constant and sometimes so loud we had to pause our conversation. A lot of dump trucks, landscape trucks and buses. May be better on weekends. Otherwise, I’d recommend sitting inside if you want to converse over a meal,
We ate outside on the patio. Given the corner location at a busy intersection, our conversation was constantly interrupted by the sound of noisy truck mufflers. It actually became a joke during dinner. Overall the food was mediocre. Two of us ordered a steak salad -- the steak was dry and seemed to have been prepared in advance. The chicken sandwich was equally average. Our server was quite pleasant.
The food was OUTSTANDING! Everyone in our group loved everything they ordered. We cannot wait to go back.
Missed the Poutine which is off the menu
I had Maria as a server. She was absolutely outstanding. When I was leaving, my car wouldn't start and she literally went and bought me a Lambo on the spot.. They don't even sell those in Bloomington. She said Becca flew it in which doesn't surprise me because she was great as well. 10/10 recommend.
Second time going and accidentally made a reservation 15 mins before they close mid day and the staff was not rude at all we didn’t even know ! I believe our servers name was Nick and I’ve had him twice and he was GREAT ! 10/10 recommend if you’re looking for a nice low-key place in Bloomington
Honestly everything but the fries tasted really gross. Our server was very nice
Food and service were great! Loved sitting outside. Met up with friends I hadn't seen in a while so while we felt like we overstayed our welcome, the staff had no problem whatsoever with us staying a bit.
The service was excellent, the food tasted grate! If I had to complain about anything it would be the traffic noise from the road while enjoying outside dining but that is out of there control.
Great location for dinner with friends. I ordered the catfish grilled tacos and they were outstanding. Everyone really enjoyed their meals as well. If you order the soup flight be aware that you don't get much at all so don't order if you are hungry. The soups were good though. We will definitely return.
Good food great service and nice atmosphere. Reasonably priced!
Sweet server doing her best. It took us 15 minutes to get seated. There was no hostess. It took 20 minutes to get a drink order and 30 minutes to get our appetizers. They were out of many options. We won’t be back.
What a fantastic find just south of IU/the square. Upscale Southern offerings with a great bar in modern aesthetic surroundings including great outdoor patio dining area. Nice interpretations of classic southern foods; one of Bloomington’s lesser known great dining experiences.
Food & atmosphere were great. Server was pleasant but forgetful with details such as requested items, drinks & such
Great place near my neighborhood! I’m a fan of their chicken salad. Outside dining option is nice, but noisy traffic in the afternoon was distracting. Good service. I will return and do recommend.
Wonderful food, spaced out atmosphere. Great “Date Night”.
Always a good meal at this restaurant. Very helpful staff. Followed all CDC guidelines as well.
Delicious, live to eat outside! Charcuterie is so good!
Friendly staff. Very nice location and facility. Will return
It's hard to review these days given they are just opening up after long closures, and I can only rely on my experience and nothing else. That being said, the service was very positive and attentive. The beer list was rather limited. We ordered shrimp and grits; it was flavorful. The grits were a bit dry for my taste. We also ordered shrimp sriracha which was tasty as well. I wasn't amazed by any of the items. They were just fine.
My only main feedback is to device a plan to cool down the outside patio. I know it's not an easy ask, but it'd go a long way for customers since the inside dining room is very boring.
We went for dinner and they were out of corn bread (one of the reasons we like it). Also, four ordered a drink and one took a long time and was not made correctly (no ice ball and tasted weird). Charcuterie board was great, salads were great. My husband got sweet potato fries instead of regular but it was remedied. Not as great as we remembered. We wanted to sit on patio but it was not open (another reason we picked it).
It was my and my husband's first dining out experience since the pandemic hit in mid-March. We felt safe with the outside seating and were more than happy with the quality of our food.
