Great food but a little noisy out on the patio because of rush hour. The best part for me was the avocado toast. The food was awesome the waitress was awesome if you’re down in that part of town I recommend this place.

Had service been better, this would have been a great experience. Empty drink glasses throughout the meal are unacceptable. Food was good, unfortunately not spectacular. Southern Rail, in my opinion, did nothing to honor the Beckett family's dining experience. I'll stick to Beckett's Table.

Overall, unfortunately underwhelmed. Food was decent but no wows. Atmosphere is adorable and lovely. Our service was fantastic and Amanda is such a polite Sputher belle!!

Deviled eggs- fair, no real pow of flavor

Fried Green Tomatoes - tasty w a little spice.

Dirty Rice Balls - Solid but lacking punch

Gumbo ya ya - well executed, but ask for some hot sauce to punch up the flavor.

Fried Chicken - very well done. Again, adding some hot sauce really added a wonderful kick.

Chicken and Biscuit/Dumplings - oddly in a brown sauce which had a soy/Asian flare. Feel they should have a disclaimer that this is not Southern at all unless you count the biscuits.

Overall, love Chef Beckett but prefer Beckitt’s table to this outlet.

I had the shrimps and grits. Very good. Serving portions generous. Group I was with had no complaints. I set a lunch meeting with a friend for following week.

The restaurant was a study in Contrasts, overall good But not consistently good. They were out of their Signature pork loin entree at 7:00 pm on Saturday night????Our waiter was friendly and attentive but not overly knowledgeable about the menu of both drinks and food. He described the Chicken and dumplings as similar to a chicken pot pie. It was not creamy and the Dumplings consisted of a Biscuit torn up and dropped in a bowl. By no stretch should they be called "dumplings" The Fried Chicken is excellent. Crispy, Juicy and not greasy. The Smoked Trout was moist and tender and complemented well with the Pea cake and tomato jam. The Rice balls are very good. They should take the OKRA bites off the menu if they can't be delivered crispy not desiccated. The Chicken gumbo is unlike any Gumbo I have ever eaten. It tasted fine but was NOT gumbo and not spicy. The rice served with it, looked and tasted like MINUTE RICE.
When I ordered a second drink I was told they were out of the ingredients. I have Never been told that a bar was out of a specific specialty drink on their menu.Should never happen.
Desserts were good but just good.
Overall, I won't rush back but if in the neighborhood I would try it again

Came here for a girls night out. What a gem! We came for the amazing southern food and was glad to see the accompanying southern charm. Food was wonderful and authentic. Drinks were so good, especially the Rail Runner. Definitely a sippin' drink that could take you through the evening. Our waitress was great and helped us pair down which of the great options we were going to try. Would definitely come back and would definitely recommend to others.

I always enjoy the Southern Rail. I had not been there this year so I had my mouth ready for the coconut cake. To my disappointment coconut cake is no longer on the menu. So i had the red velvet cake , which was NOT special, pretty bland. Bring back the coconut cake , pleeesse. :0)
Jazz and Jambalaya was fabulous..

Fried chicken was terrible. I expect some fat (aside from the breading and oil), but when you have to hunt for a decent piece of meat in 4 pieces, it's not a good meal. Three of us ordered it and all 3 of us said we'd never order it again. And for $22 bucks, a bit of a waste. Drinks were great - try the Sazarac if you like an Old Fashioned. Service was slow and had to hunt down our server to pay after saying we had a show to catch. Won't go back unless for happy hour.

Honestly me and my girl came here because we were really curious about the restaurant especially since its just s few minutes from the house. But what we didn't realize is how much we would love it! Great staff, comfy environment, amazing food and a great drink/wine list. I'll be coming back!

We took friends to Southern Rail. There were so many fun things on the menu that we all shared. Really good fried chicken, roasted cauliflower, fried green tomatoes. Macaroni and cheese good and very rich. Red beans and rice just ok. Smoked trout (good) served with an edamame cake (tasty) and tomato jam that was just too sweet and overpowering for the trout. We will be back!

Appetizers were not impressive. Main course made up for it, very delicious. You will feel better about eating here if you goo during happy hour. You can try the, not so great, appetizers fairly cheap and the drinks are marked down a few dollars. Main courses (gumbo and fried chicken) were delicious. Made up for the horrible cornbread and deviled eggs. Atmosphere was nice and service was great.

Great modern southern restaurant in heart of Phoenix. Large airy dining room with a contemporary vibe. Great wait staff. Food is above average. Stand-outs are the fried chicken, ribs and enchiladas. Decent wine list and mixed drinks were good as well. Next to Changing Hands Bookstore. Have fun and eat well!

The food was just ok, I had fried chicken and the outside was crispy but not favorable and the inside was not moist as I had hoped for. My side of grits was the best part of my meal, very good.
The noise level, mostly banging dishes and noise from the kitchen was so loud we couldn't even hear each other talk. The banana pudding and fresh ginger cookies were outstanding, next time I'll just get that.

Great Fathers Day Dinner. I was looking forward to the fried chicken for weeks and it didn't disappoint! Only reason the ambiance wasn't a five was a pesky fly that bother us a little, but other than that it was a great Sunday dinner.

This was my third time dining here, and I have had a great experience all three times. If you get here before 6, they have "social" prices with discounts on apps and drinks. The fried green tomatoes with pimento cheese appetizer is my favorite thing here, but the fried chicken is a close second. I can never say no to begniets and a cafe au lait to end the night, almost as good as Cafe Du Monde.

This is my first visit to Southern Rail, it was not bad but it was not great. The service was fast and friendly and I never had an empty drink. The food was eehhh not bad but not good for the dollar. BUT, I would try this place again the food I ordered the first time around which were the Ribs did not win me over but I felt like there is something here so I will give it another chance. Not every item at every restaurant it a winner so I will try something else and see how that goes and give a better opinion. There was enough good in the place to give it another try I guess you can say.
