Definitely must try! Food is good and service is excellent! Very fresh ingredients
A fun place in our "hood" with delicious food and good service.
Best southern food in az
Southern Rail is one of our favorite restaurants. We have been coming here for special occasions for years. We always get good food and good service and the atmosphere is very nice. We may have to start coming for "regular" occasions other than special occasions!
Our waiter, Albert, was great! Our food was delicious! I was super impressed with the wine selection! We really enjoyed it all around!
Shrimp and grits were outstanding. I am sure I will be returning to enjoy again. My hubby had the ribs and they were on the luke, close to cold side so he did not enjoy as much. We took my son the fried chicken and sides and he it all tasted really good. Over all great new restaurant find.
Our server (female) later in the evening, close to closing time on the patio was excellent. Her polite and professional demeanor and the care she takes with each step of service did not go unnoticed. Well done. It didn’t hurt that the food was quite good as well.
One of our regular place to eat. Great food and good friendly service
The gumbo wasn’t good but burger was good.
Average food, great patio
It so good to be back dining live. This place is amazing. Fried chicken? The best.
We tried all the must haves and they did not disappoint! The deviled eggs were good. The mac and cheese was al dente and the cheese was a great mixture of flavor with the hint of mustard. The fried chicken was perfectly season and cooked. The flank steak with chimichurri was flavorful. The mashed potatoes were the best part of the meal! Yukon golds with an abundance of butter. Hands down the best I've had in years! Even the glassware was amazing. Chrystal clear with no smudges, water spots or streaks and my iced tea came with a long spoon. <--- this doesn't happen very often. Proper flatware changes with your course. My only complaint was service was quiet slow but our server was courteous.
Had a great Sunday dinner will come back again.,..........
This is my favorite restaurant in all of the Phoenix metro area. I don't think I've ever left not feeling 10x better than when I arrived.
I took my wife out for dinner and we both had the ribs. The meal was cooked perfectly however I did not like the sauce that the ribs came with. Just personal opinion, nothing against the restaurant itself. If you’re in the area of Camelback and Central, I highly recommend stopping in at Southern rail.
Enjoy the service and good food
We decided to try something new and based on reviews we chose Southern Rail and we were pretty disappointed. From the time the gentleman who apparently would have rather been ANYWHERE but there took us to our table and then we found out was also our waiter to the end where we waited over 20 minutes for our bill to leave while he was busy chit chatting with the bartender that was the biggest part of the problem. The place was not busy at all which should have been a clue at 6pm on Camelback Rd. The decor is great and the patio is lovely so that is a definite plus. The food was nothing spectacular and we tried several things. Deviled eggs, Dirty Rice Balls, Feta Zucchini app, cup of Gumbo Ya Ya and a Cheeseburger. Best one of all that was the dirty rice balls but they lacked flavor. The Monsoon drink is very good but that alone is not worth going back for. That will be our one and only visit to Southern Rail.
Went for Jazz and Jambalaya. Had a reservation. Out of Jambalaya. Not cool. Initial service was slow. Almost 30 minutes to get wine because the wine ordered was out. Not a great start. After that, great service and great food. I love Beckett’s and I’ll love Southern Rail because these are great people but this was less than 5 stars. I’ll be back because I suspect all the negatives will get fixed. Bottom line, I went home totally satisfied with great food and a great staff.
This was our first time. We enjoyed everything we ordered. We will be back.
Comfortable outdoor seating, tables well spaced, waiter attentive, overall a very pleasant dining experience.
I went specifically for a po-boy and fried okra, they did not have either! The waiter was not helpful or friendly. I had to request an ice tea refill, he reached across my plate, picked up the glass and returned more than 10 minutes later. I asked when they had po-bouts because it is on the menu on line, he told me this was there full menu, “ no po-boys” and walked away. The food I ordered was good.
I made an 8:45 reservation and was told immediately when I walked in that the kitchen closed at 9. I was seated and told my server “would be sent right over since the kitchen is closing.”
We ordered drinks and they were lovely and the bartender was very nice.
I ordered the fried chicken and my date ordered the meatloaf. The meat loaf was a tiny dried piece of meat with tepid vegetables and bland potatoes. When the server came to check and I said he didn’t care for it. She offered to box it up and then took BOTH our plates and boxed them.
I felt rushed, unwelcome and dismissed. I understand the staff wants to get home on time but if you didn’t want guests at 8:45 then you shouldn’t have offered it as a reservation time.
I have worked both in the front and the back of the house in the hospitality field and I understand being tired and feeling frustrated and wanting to close up, but you’re still not supposed to communicate that feeling to your customers. It was awkward and uncomfortable.
I had been looking forward to trying Southern Rail for some time. This was really disappointing.
Seriously, this one of a kind restaurant has an amazing menu. Even for a post covid timing - the staff was fantastic. I did hear they need more people - they're cut back to only 5 dinner services a week. No lunch or special events... they are looking forward to reinstating full service once they can get enough staff members onboard and trained.
Amazing experience, service food ambiance jazz!
Comfort food excellence! Discovered this place 2.5 years ago, and ate there only once (we live over 100 miles away in Tucson). We were in the Phoenix area fort the first time since Covid, and just had to eat there again. There is always the fear that you've blown up and magnified the recollection of the first time, but the food and service did not disappoint. The absolute very best fried chicken we've ever eaten.
Wonderful experience! Food, service, ambiance. Will add this restaurant to our list of places we frequent
They were understaffed that night and service was polite, but we were not well attended. Two dishes were not as ordered and the appetizer was long forgotten. Drinks were served and then we waited over 45 minutes for another round. At least we had the bottle of warm tap water for the table. My husband loved his fried chicken and the appetizer came while they were trying to remedy the other two dishes. The zucchini cakes were yummy though. Not a fan of their mustard sopped bun on the burger. EVO and Tonto Bar&Grill will be our go to for burgers.
The food was fabulous. I asked for a drink that was out of the ordinary, and the server and made bartender made sure they accommodated! Great evening!
Great meal and delicious cocktails. The restaurant is gorgeous and has a great atmosphere.
Very noisy, traffic, though we were inside. Large noisy party next to us at a high table.
Great service, great menu choices. Lovely atmosphere
Southern Rail is one of our favorites. So nice to be dining in person after getting takeout during the last year. Outstanding job with both, but nice to eat right after the food is done. Our favorites are the shrimp and grits and the fried chicken. We're from Georgia and love getting a taste of home at our next home. Both dishes are exceptional and would be welcome at any southern table.
Food was okay...I was hoping for better. I think maybe it was just an off night? It looks like it could be a good place.
Incredibly relaxing, while completely satisfied. Don’t rush the meal here. Enjoy the deviled eggs before exploring the entire menu. Can’t miss with the fried chicken, however, try the burger with the melted white cheddar. Wrap everything up with the red velvet cake and a scoop of ice cream. Great vibe for your entire date night!
Service was great, food was great but I can’t give a higher rating because they’re not enforcing mask requirements. Multiple people entering the restaurant and moving about the restaurant not wearing masks and the restaurant said nothing.
Disappointing when a generally great restaurant shows such a lack of concern for the safety of its employees and patrons.
Our waiter rarely came to our table, we had to asks others for what we needed. Food was ok, not amazing, and at more of a premium for what it is. We did not have the best experience.
Traffic noise was a bit loud but the live jazz was nice. The service was at a relaxed pace but we were not in a hurry.
Very busy with a live band on the patio and great ambiance, to match the food!
Great food and cocktails.
We went for Jambalaya and Jazz on Sunday @ 5pm on the patio. Music was great.
Camelback traffic noise is the only con. Wish they could do something about it but understand the difficulty.
