I loved the atmosphere. Open, airy and beautiful. Great staff and service. Plenty of variety on the menu and options for all tastes.
Nice place to have lunch and then shop in the fun shops nearby. I will definately return when my cousins visit. I think they will love it and I am anxious to try some of the other menu items.

The food was good but the Collard Greens need more bacon and they should offer Tappey's Peppers in Vinegar sauce for the table. The blackened steak was bland. Not even seasoned for a Northerner's palate.

DO NOT LEAVE PHOENIX without stopping at Southern Rail for the fried chicken. It is the best ever. Served with Yukon Gold potatoes and bacon collard greens. WOW!

The service was good and meals prepared well except a little salty on the meats. I have frequented for lunch but first time dining and would recommend both! Nice remodeling of an old restaurant I used dine decades ago!

Several minutes before we were greeted at the host stand. The manager came and went several times and never acknowledged us. Dining room was never full which tipped me off that this place might not be as good as I hoped. Server was excellent. Food was ok. I had the Brussel sprout dip which was delicious but was a tiny portion for the cost. I had the salmon entree. Very well done on the outer perimeter and near raw in the center. Really disappointing dining experience. If you are looking to try something new I would skip this place.

Fantastic southern fare. Best fried chicken I've had in a long time. The fried green tomatoes are to die for.

My wife and I ate here Christmas Eve. Wonderful food, great service. Everything we had was wonderful. The gumbo with Andouille sausage was fantastic. Tremendous smoky flavor with warmth and depth. Large portion meant I had wonderful leftovers. My wife's smoked chicken and dumplings was just as good, and great the next day. Their special dumplings were so good. We also had the deviled eggs and dirty rice balls for appetizers. Awesome. We enjoyed two of their custom cocktails. The Red Velvet cake for dessert was a decadent ending. And the service? Helpful, informative and always right there when needed. All-in-all, a wonderful evening of delicious food. Great value, 100% satisfaction. We have raved to all our friends, and will definitely go back often.

It’s like you are in New Orleans. The food is very authentic southern home cooking comfort food, from the holy trinity (onions, bell peppers and celery) with red beans and rice to the beignets with chicory coffee. Yum!
The ambiance is akin to being near a railroad station, thus the name, with the light rail passing by.
Good food, good atmosphere, good service, with good company. What more can you ask?

We want to preface this review with our love for Southern Rail. We are frequent customers to the restaurant Though, tonight’s dinner was average...The fried chicken was burnt and looked like it had been sitting under the heat lamp prior to service. Tonight’s portions were also much smaller than before...We love the atmosphere and service, but were a bit disappointed with the food tonight. Off night! Until next time...

The food was good but everything had such powerful flavours that it didn't come together as a well-composed meal. We were steered to a really nice California red at a value price-point, a real find. Overall, a nice experience.

Had service been better, this would have been a great experience. Empty drink glasses throughout the meal are unacceptable. Food was good, unfortunately not spectacular. Southern Rail, in my opinion, did nothing to honor the Beckett family's dining experience. I'll stick to Beckett's Table.

Overall, unfortunately underwhelmed. Food was decent but no wows. Atmosphere is adorable and lovely. Our service was fantastic and Amanda is such a polite Sputher belle!!

Deviled eggs- fair, no real pow of flavor

Fried Green Tomatoes - tasty w a little spice.

Dirty Rice Balls - Solid but lacking punch

Gumbo ya ya - well executed, but ask for some hot sauce to punch up the flavor.

Fried Chicken - very well done. Again, adding some hot sauce really added a wonderful kick.

Chicken and Biscuit/Dumplings - oddly in a brown sauce which had a soy/Asian flare. Feel they should have a disclaimer that this is not Southern at all unless you count the biscuits.

Overall, love Chef Beckett but prefer Beckitt’s table to this outlet.

The restaurant was a study in Contrasts, overall good But not consistently good. They were out of their Signature pork loin entree at 7:00 pm on Saturday night????Our waiter was friendly and attentive but not overly knowledgeable about the menu of both drinks and food. He described the Chicken and dumplings as similar to a chicken pot pie. It was not creamy and the Dumplings consisted of a Biscuit torn up and dropped in a bowl. By no stretch should they be called "dumplings" The Fried Chicken is excellent. Crispy, Juicy and not greasy. The Smoked Trout was moist and tender and complemented well with the Pea cake and tomato jam. The Rice balls are very good. They should take the OKRA bites off the menu if they can't be delivered crispy not desiccated. The Chicken gumbo is unlike any Gumbo I have ever eaten. It tasted fine but was NOT gumbo and not spicy. The rice served with it, looked and tasted like MINUTE RICE.
When I ordered a second drink I was told they were out of the ingredients. I have Never been told that a bar was out of a specific specialty drink on their menu.Should never happen.
Desserts were good but just good.
Overall, I won't rush back but if in the neighborhood I would try it again

Came here for a girls night out. What a gem! We came for the amazing southern food and was glad to see the accompanying southern charm. Food was wonderful and authentic. Drinks were so good, especially the Rail Runner. Definitely a sippin' drink that could take you through the evening. Our waitress was great and helped us pair down which of the great options we were going to try. Would definitely come back and would definitely recommend to others.

I always enjoy the Southern Rail. I had not been there this year so I had my mouth ready for the coconut cake. To my disappointment coconut cake is no longer on the menu. So i had the red velvet cake , which was NOT special, pretty bland. Bring back the coconut cake , pleeesse. :0)
Jazz and Jambalaya was fabulous..

Fried chicken was terrible. I expect some fat (aside from the breading and oil), but when you have to hunt for a decent piece of meat in 4 pieces, it's not a good meal. Three of us ordered it and all 3 of us said we'd never order it again. And for $22 bucks, a bit of a waste. Drinks were great - try the Sazarac if you like an Old Fashioned. Service was slow and had to hunt down our server to pay after saying we had a show to catch. Won't go back unless for happy hour.
