I really miss collard greens being on the menu…
Great place to grab a meal with family and friends.
Best burger of my life
We went on a Saturday evening and sat outside. They have ceiling fans but if they had misters, they were not on. We got seated right away, and they quickly filled our waters and gave us menus. For starters we had the creamy grits and the dirty rice balls. The creamy grits were excellent. Buttery and smooth and well prepared. The Dirty Rice Balls looked great from a presentation standpoint but were kind of tasteless. I wouldn't get them again. For mains we had the the prime flatiron steak and the smoked st. louis style pork ribs. The steak was cooked as requested and on the spicy side. The ribs were fine but I personally thought the bourbon peach bbq sauce wasn't well matched. That is just because I like a sauce with more tanginess. Overall, the restaurant was fine and the service itself was very good. However I am not running to return any time soon.
Absolutely amazing!!!! Very inviting atmosphere. Lovely entry, beautiful foliage. Ambiance was perfect, including music!! Best meal we have ever had in Phoenix, we will definitely be returning!!!!!!!!
A friend and I like to book new places to eat every couple of weeks. I am new to Phoenix but he has been here for about 9 years. We met for a reservation at 7:15 and we sat outside. I was actually really nice and even with it next to the road and the light rail train, it wasn't overly noisy. Normal conversation was fine. I had the Seared Scottish Salmon with creamed spinach orzo and it was absolutely delicious! I will be going back for this dish. My friend had the Meatloaf with sauteed veggies and mashed potatoes. He loved his as well. I can say we both recomment this one. Oh, our service was also excellent!!!
We had our third anniversary here and the food and service was excellent. We had a great time and will be back.
Saturday night. Ate on the patio. Wife had the fried chicken and loved it. I had the St. Louis ribs and was dissatisfied with the taste and the portion size.
Drinks were ok. Wife liked her King Krewe. Overall a so-so meal for the price.
I am not sure if it was the playoffs, but it was like a ghost town in the middle of dinner rush. We were forced to whisper during our meal because the whole place was so quiet. I would definitely give this place another shot. The menu items all sound amazing. Hopefully the next visit will be a lively one. The place is adorable!
Everything was amazing, the cheeseburger, two steaks and salmon. we were a little disappointed that the okra and fried green tomatoes were not available, however the meal was exceptional!!
Everything was great. Fried chicken is amazing s was the red velvet cake. Def would come back
Delicious food and fantastic service! The best pimento dip I have ever had and the shrimp and grits and the red velvet cake were delicious!
Love the atmosphere. Meatloaf tasted like homemade and the veggies were very good. Fried chicken not amazing- but very good.
We’ve been here several times over the years back to the Bourbon and BBQ days. Host got us right in outside. Service was prompt and courteous. Food was delicious:Gumbo and Salmon. Dessert was the best...bread pudding from brunch French toast! Just another awesome experience.
Quick service, beautiful atmosphere and amazing food we will definitely be back!
The food here is amazing, their signature dish the fried chicken can’t be beat. We also tried the mac and cheese, I would go there just for that.
Definitely must try! Food is good and service is excellent! Very fresh ingredients
We thoroughly enjoyed the meal and drinks. The bartender was our waiter and he was very attentive. My friend had the mule and I had a cocktail with Bubbly, lemonade and honey! Both delicious! I had the fried chicken and my friend had the ribs. We were both happy with our meal. The chicken reminded me how my Mom used to fry chicken! We shared a great bread pudding! Would come again and again to Southern Rail if I lived in Phoenix.
A fun place in our "hood" with delicious food and good service.
Best southern food in az
Southern Rail is one of our favorite restaurants. We have been coming here for special occasions for years. We always get good food and good service and the atmosphere is very nice. We may have to start coming for "regular" occasions other than special occasions!
Our waiter, Albert, was great! Our food was delicious! I was super impressed with the wine selection! We really enjoyed it all around!
Shrimp and grits were outstanding. I am sure I will be returning to enjoy again. My hubby had the ribs and they were on the luke, close to cold side so he did not enjoy as much. We took my son the fried chicken and sides and he it all tasted really good. Over all great new restaurant find.
Our server (female) later in the evening, close to closing time on the patio was excellent. Her polite and professional demeanor and the care she takes with each step of service did not go unnoticed. Well done. It didn’t hurt that the food was quite good as well.
One of our regular place to eat. Great food and good friendly service
The gumbo wasn’t good but burger was good.
Average food, great patio
It so good to be back dining live. This place is amazing. Fried chicken? The best.
We tried all the must haves and they did not disappoint! The deviled eggs were good. The mac and cheese was al dente and the cheese was a great mixture of flavor with the hint of mustard. The fried chicken was perfectly season and cooked. The flank steak with chimichurri was flavorful. The mashed potatoes were the best part of the meal! Yukon golds with an abundance of butter. Hands down the best I've had in years! Even the glassware was amazing. Chrystal clear with no smudges, water spots or streaks and my iced tea came with a long spoon. <--- this doesn't happen very often. Proper flatware changes with your course. My only complaint was service was quiet slow but our server was courteous.
Had a great Sunday dinner will come back again.,..........
This is my favorite restaurant in all of the Phoenix metro area. I don't think I've ever left not feeling 10x better than when I arrived.
I took my wife out for dinner and we both had the ribs. The meal was cooked perfectly however I did not like the sauce that the ribs came with. Just personal opinion, nothing against the restaurant itself. If you’re in the area of Camelback and Central, I highly recommend stopping in at Southern rail.
Enjoy the service and good food
We decided to try something new and based on reviews we chose Southern Rail and we were pretty disappointed. From the time the gentleman who apparently would have rather been ANYWHERE but there took us to our table and then we found out was also our waiter to the end where we waited over 20 minutes for our bill to leave while he was busy chit chatting with the bartender that was the biggest part of the problem. The place was not busy at all which should have been a clue at 6pm on Camelback Rd. The decor is great and the patio is lovely so that is a definite plus. The food was nothing spectacular and we tried several things. Deviled eggs, Dirty Rice Balls, Feta Zucchini app, cup of Gumbo Ya Ya and a Cheeseburger. Best one of all that was the dirty rice balls but they lacked flavor. The Monsoon drink is very good but that alone is not worth going back for. That will be our one and only visit to Southern Rail.
Went for Jazz and Jambalaya. Had a reservation. Out of Jambalaya. Not cool. Initial service was slow. Almost 30 minutes to get wine because the wine ordered was out. Not a great start. After that, great service and great food. I love Beckett’s and I’ll love Southern Rail because these are great people but this was less than 5 stars. I’ll be back because I suspect all the negatives will get fixed. Bottom line, I went home totally satisfied with great food and a great staff.
This was our first time. We enjoyed everything we ordered. We will be back.
Comfortable outdoor seating, tables well spaced, waiter attentive, overall a very pleasant dining experience.
I went specifically for a po-boy and fried okra, they did not have either! The waiter was not helpful or friendly. I had to request an ice tea refill, he reached across my plate, picked up the glass and returned more than 10 minutes later. I asked when they had po-bouts because it is on the menu on line, he told me this was there full menu, “ no po-boys” and walked away. The food I ordered was good.
I made an 8:45 reservation and was told immediately when I walked in that the kitchen closed at 9. I was seated and told my server “would be sent right over since the kitchen is closing.”
We ordered drinks and they were lovely and the bartender was very nice.
I ordered the fried chicken and my date ordered the meatloaf. The meat loaf was a tiny dried piece of meat with tepid vegetables and bland potatoes. When the server came to check and I said he didn’t care for it. She offered to box it up and then took BOTH our plates and boxed them.
I felt rushed, unwelcome and dismissed. I understand the staff wants to get home on time but if you didn’t want guests at 8:45 then you shouldn’t have offered it as a reservation time.
I have worked both in the front and the back of the house in the hospitality field and I understand being tired and feeling frustrated and wanting to close up, but you’re still not supposed to communicate that feeling to your customers. It was awkward and uncomfortable.
I had been looking forward to trying Southern Rail for some time. This was really disappointing.
Seriously, this one of a kind restaurant has an amazing menu. Even for a post covid timing - the staff was fantastic. I did hear they need more people - they're cut back to only 5 dinner services a week. No lunch or special events... they are looking forward to reinstating full service once they can get enough staff members onboard and trained.
