Fried Chicken Bites
Smoked St Louis Style Pork Ribs
summer corn salad, brioche rolls, apple butter, bourbon peach bbq sauce
Always one of my most favorite places in Phoenix! Delicious food and impeccable service!!!
Food great, service was a little slow, but am sure it had to do with being understaffed and the server was very good -but, the music was very loud which made it hard to talk and hear the server
The appetizers were good, but it took 45 min to get our entree’s with the restaurant being less than 50% full. When we finally got our food the mashed potatoes were cold and were soaked in butter and the corn was underdone. The fried chicken was good but a little greasy. Service was decent but slow.
I had the salmon...
Started with great cocktails with a southern twist. Food was delicious. We had Shrimp and Grits, Ribs and the Flatiron Steak and really enjoyed. The house salad had a delicious dressing. Service was very good.
Southern Rail has the best fried chicken, hands down! The other must get on the menu ate the deviled eggs. Our server, Erin, was a delight! Our appetizer and meals were served quickly and she was attentive throughout. We will be back!
Still adjusting to reopening so not as smooth as we have become used to. Food is still great, especially the fried chicken and the bread pudding. We look forward to the day they have live music again. Service was on point and responsive to individual needs. Eclectic bookstore next door was an added bonus
Great service, great food give Erin a thumbs up for us.
We love this restaurant. I would highly recommend for any meal. The menu is a little limited right now as the restaurant figures out scheduling, etc. following Covid, but the food is spectacular as always. Good quality and wonderful environment.
Good food great service. We had a very enjoyable evening. Thanks for a job well done .
Went for the SR southern fried chicken as will return for the southern fried chicken
spouse had the salmon; all was delicious!
In and out of the pandemic, this restaurant and personnel have been mindful of safety and customer service has not lost a beat. Food continues to be fresh and delicious. Their farm to table salads and appetizers had been well-crafted. Signature dishes like fried chicken, ribs as well as their changing seafood menu are always consistently terrific.
Food was very good. The only thing I can add is that with the grits & shrimps, I love salt but wow...the grits themselves, were over salted when tried solo. That was when I really noticed it. The tomato /red pepper soup - had an odd tangy finish to it. Rice balls were great. The bread pudding / red velvet both fell short. Bread pudding was literately a piece of dipped brioche bread on a plate with 'maple syrup'. It lacked texture ( maybe walnuts. or golden raisins...anything ...it needed more moisture ...or maybe should have been served with side of bourbon rich sweet sauce coupled with scoop of vanilla bean or a gelato /ice cream/whipped cream? It was just too dry as it sat. As for Red Velvet "southern style"cake, its usually huge and smothered in cream cheese type icing. We saw one pass by and it looked like it was 'deconstructed' . Small and round. I didn't order it so as for flavor not sure.
They were OUT OF sweet tea on a Friday night? That was one thing that really needs to be available when serving southern foods.
My family and I went to Souther Rail for Father’s Day. My husband and I have been several times before (best fried chicken in Phoenix!) but my in-laws had never been. My in-laws are the kind of people who go to their favorite three restaurants over and over and rarely like anything new. They loved it! The service was great, the food was great, it was just a great overall experience!
Great food with a traditional Southern flair. Really unique whisky and bourbon cocktails. Would love to come back to try all of the appetizers one day.
Food was impeccable! Service was attentive and kind. Arizona wine selection was superb! Make a reservation, you won't regret it!
I called the restaurant before making a reservation to confirm they had a misting/cooling system for outdoor dining. They confirmed yes they do. When I showed up for my reservation I was informed they had the outdoor cooling system off as since it was over 105 it doesn't work that well. That excuse did not make any sense. Swamp coolers work well when the dew point is below 55 degrees and the dewpoint was well below that number. I asked if there was anything inside. The answer was it was a 1.5 hour wait. I then asked if we sit outside and something opens up inside, can we move indoors. I was told yes, but the wait was very long. While sitting outside, we witnessed two different parties start dining outside and the move inside when a space opened up.
I go to this establishment every other month as the food is good. The problem with this place is the service is always spotty. Sometimes its good and sometimes its bad. The level of service we received outside was also subpar. The service issues at this restaurant make it hard to recommend.
2nd time back in one week, this time with a reservation to be sure I could enjoy "Bourbon Week" that I learned about from the previous visit. I most enjoyed the impeccable level of service on each visit. The laid back ambiance although it was busy, and music selection that was ever so audible was also great.
Funny that I enjoyed the sides more than the main dish, having ordered SR's signature dish. I believe the fried chicken could have more depth of flavor. Maybe more garlic? Overall, I recommend.
Great place, excellent food. Chopped salad is quite good.
We love this restaurant however this time the service was pretty poor. We got drinks, appetizer, and dinner. We intended to get dessert however after sitting for over 30 minutes after finishing our dinner and plates cleared away with no one coming over to check on us or even looking in the direction of the table we decided to ask for the check and leave. We had to flag down the bus boy to ask for the check to be brought over. I don’t know if the amount of people that were there was not expected and tonight was not staffed appropriately. This was uncharacteristic to experience here.
I have been to Southern Rail a few times always good, service is excellent.
I really miss collard greens being on the menu…
Great place to grab a meal with family and friends.
Best burger of my life
We went on a Saturday evening and sat outside. They have ceiling fans but if they had misters, they were not on. We got seated right away, and they quickly filled our waters and gave us menus. For starters we had the creamy grits and the dirty rice balls. The creamy grits were excellent. Buttery and smooth and well prepared. The Dirty Rice Balls looked great from a presentation standpoint but were kind of tasteless. I wouldn't get them again. For mains we had the the prime flatiron steak and the smoked st. louis style pork ribs. The steak was cooked as requested and on the spicy side. The ribs were fine but I personally thought the bourbon peach bbq sauce wasn't well matched. That is just because I like a sauce with more tanginess. Overall, the restaurant was fine and the service itself was very good. However I am not running to return any time soon.
Absolutely amazing!!!! Very inviting atmosphere. Lovely entry, beautiful foliage. Ambiance was perfect, including music!! Best meal we have ever had in Phoenix, we will definitely be returning!!!!!!!!
Great food and service. Had to wait for our reserved table and seating was small for the group.
A friend and I like to book new places to eat every couple of weeks. I am new to Phoenix but he has been here for about 9 years. We met for a reservation at 7:15 and we sat outside. I was actually really nice and even with it next to the road and the light rail train, it wasn't overly noisy. Normal conversation was fine. I had the Seared Scottish Salmon with creamed spinach orzo and it was absolutely delicious! I will be going back for this dish. My friend had the Meatloaf with sauteed veggies and mashed potatoes. He loved his as well. I can say we both recomment this one. Oh, our service was also excellent!!!
We had our third anniversary here and the food and service was excellent. We had a great time and will be back.
Saturday night. Ate on the patio. Wife had the fried chicken and loved it. I had the St. Louis ribs and was dissatisfied with the taste and the portion size.
Drinks were ok. Wife liked her King Krewe. Overall a so-so meal for the price.
I am not sure if it was the playoffs, but it was like a ghost town in the middle of dinner rush. We were forced to whisper during our meal because the whole place was so quiet. I would definitely give this place another shot. The menu items all sound amazing. Hopefully the next visit will be a lively one. The place is adorable!
Everything was amazing, the cheeseburger, two steaks and salmon. we were a little disappointed that the okra and fried green tomatoes were not available, however the meal was exceptional!!
Everything was great. Fried chicken is amazing s was the red velvet cake. Def would come back
Delicious food and fantastic service! The best pimento dip I have ever had and the shrimp and grits and the red velvet cake were delicious!
Love the atmosphere. Meatloaf tasted like homemade and the veggies were very good. Fried chicken not amazing- but very good.
We’ve been here several times over the years back to the Bourbon and BBQ days. Host got us right in outside. Service was prompt and courteous. Food was delicious:Gumbo and Salmon. Dessert was the best...bread pudding from brunch French toast! Just another awesome experience.
Quick service, beautiful atmosphere and amazing food we will definitely be back!
The food here is amazing, their signature dish the fried chicken can’t be beat. We also tried the mac and cheese, I would go there just for that.
Definitely must try! Food is good and service is excellent! Very fresh ingredients
