Southern Kin Cookhouse
The food was great. Our Waiter was very polite and attentive. We ordered our drinks which came out right away. When he came with our drinks we ordered corn bread and biscuits and decided to order our main meals at the same time. Our corn bread and biscuits literally came out 2 minutes later and thought, “Wow, this great. Nice and fast”. However, we weren’t even half way though these 2 items and our main meals came out 2 minutes later. We also ordered a wedge salad and that came after our meals were brought to our table.
Needless to say, I was disappointed. The restaurant was very quiet (7:00 PM on a Sunday night) and we felt so rushed. We know it wasn’t intentional but they’ve got to manage when the food comes out to the tables. I would’ve liked to have enjoyed our appetizers (if you’d call corn bread and biscuits an appetizer). Then have the salad and then the main meals after the salad had been eaten.
My first time there which my son recommended. We’d definitely go back but hope they heed the advise on managing the timing of service between courses.
Pre-movie meal included the deviled eggs, Carolina wings, wedge salad and jumbalaya, all great. Entrees were fried chicken and ribs, the table raved. Service was friendly and perfect. Bourbon pecan pie and coconut pie also received high marks. Always a great place to indulge.
Came here for brunch. The cornbread is amazing and so is the poutine. Chicken and waffles were available as a special but are not explicitly on the menu.
Food was awesome as always
The food is very tasty and presented well. Service was extremely friendly from our server and the manager. Better than expected. The four of us loved our food.
Great service. Delicious food and drink. We are planning to come back:-)
My fiancé and I came to Southern Kin for a quick brunch before heading home after a night in the Assembly Row area. I have been here before and always had good food and even better service, and that continues to be the case. We were well taken care of by our server, King. He is attentive, professional and has an impeccable sense of when to leave us and when to come over to check in. If you go to Southern Kin and have King as your server, you’ll be in good hands!
Do yourself a favor and get an order of the skillet cornbread. It’s top notch.
Great food. Frank R. Provided stellar service.
Disgusting. The restaurant had closed for the day and never informed us. Had a 25 minute uber drive for nothing.
My kids enjoyed every moment of our early dinner tonight
The dinner is very good food is delicious , the problem my waitress was not kind or friendly.
Our server was beyond amazing!
He knew exactly how to deal with my picky partner
The food was greater than I could have ever imagined
Already planning my return trip
It was our first time to Southern Kin and overall it was great! My only negative was after ordering our meals we were asked if we wanted biscuits To start. This seemed like a complimentary bread at the beginning of a meal but when we got the bill it was an appetizer charge of $8. They were delicious but I would not have paid that for biscuits if I knew.
The food was fine, nothing extraordinary, but was not up to the prices paid. We had the chicken and waffles and the catfish. Service was so so, our waiter checked in once, seemed overworked. Probably won’t go back.
Great service, great food=great visit
Food is always good, the service was impeccable..
Very flexible as running late on reservation time!!
Always a great place to get a great meal
Great food, great drinks!
We went for brunch for my husband’s birthday. The food was very good, and interesting. Favorites included stuffed French toast, grilled corn bread and eggs Benedict on biscuits.
This is not the place to go if you are watching your weight, but well worth the pounds!
Suggest reservations: Restaurant is crowded on the weekends.
They offer lunch as well as brunch
The food here was amazing and the service was flawless! Our server was very attentive and had a warm smile. Being our first time, we didn't know what to expect. They delivered hands down! From the ambiance to the food, it was all around a truly welcoming environment. I will certainly be back!
Good overall. Drinks are a bit pricey for what they are in my opinion. Chicken skin chips and dip was great!
The food has a unique spin and is very good. We went as a party of four and enjoyed everything. The service was also great. It is, however, a pricey engagement for the ambiance/environment, that is the one let down to the experience.
So we have eaten here before several years ago and it was delicious! Best chicken and waffles we had ever had. We were excited to go back and sadly very disappointed. The meal came out no more than 5 minutes after we placed our order...so definitely NOT cooked to order anymore. It felt like they had exchanged quality for efficiency. More bodies in and out. The prices are high and we don’t mind paying for good food but to pay that much for a meal that was subpar is very disappointing. It felt like an Applebee’s. I didn’t pay $150 to eat at Applebee’s. We used to love this place, but the quality is lost.
Service was great tho, very friendly and checked on us several times.
Ordered the bucket of fried chicken that was advertised as a whole chicken, which is was NOT. There was also lack of consistency in the batter and moistness of the meat.
A nice place to eat American food and get together with friends and family.
The food was amazing! The portions were a great size and the food was fresh. I bought a bottle of the house hot sauce because it was that good.
Only critique I had was that the mimosas we ordered (4, 2 for me, 2 for my date) weren't good enough to justify the $11 price tag.
Brunch was delicious as always. Comfort food with modern twists.
The food was inconsistent, I've been there several time and ordered the same two items, Grits and shrimp and Chicken &Waffles, this time the chicken was not the dark brown as before, it was not as crispy as before and the waffle was kinda soft, the shrimp and grits taste was good but one part of the dish was cold, another warm and another cold, each spoonful was different temperature, it seem like it was not made fresh but was heated up in the microwave and some of it did not heat well. This is not acceptable because the price of the food is high, my expectation of the food should be of the same quality, in this case in my experience it was inconsistent with my previous visits.
The food was tasty and decently priced. Was a bit noisy, but that's to be expected in this type of restaurant (not that it's a bad thing!) The server(s) were good, but took a little long getting to our table post-dinner, and dropped the check without asking if we wanted dessert. I'd recommend this place for sure, especially the shrimp and grits. Biscuits were on point too.
OMG the food is just soooo good. I cant wait to go back.
Fried chicken was very tasty. Biscuits were really large and fluffy. A really good meal!
Fun atmosphere and great food!
I absolutely love this place. The food is unreal. Delicious! One of my favorites in the Boston area.
Service was slow with no follow up at bar. Prices were ridiculous to say the least and enough to keep me from returning unfortunately.
Food was delicious. Our server was super nice and attentive from the very beginning. He brought me to me table and was very lovely. The biscuits were outstanding and that's saying a lot, I'm dating a southern boy! They have his stamp of approval. We'll be back for some more chicken buckets!
Excellent food choices. The chicken is excellent, as well as the fish. Deviled Eggs to die for. Service was ridiculously fast and our waiter was very attentive. Other than the sweet tea being so-so, everything else was flawless.
Great night with friends. Food was amazing and the service was spot on.
Great food! Frank, our waiter, was awesome!
We came first thing when they opened on Sunday. Food was out of this world (we got the fried chicken and eggs and cornbread - not to be missed) and service was great. It remained relatively quiet, about half full, through our breakfast which we were grateful for, although I think it fills up around midday on Sundays. Really cozy atmosphere and they play modern country music to fit the theme. We can't wait to come back!
Nice atmosphere and our server was great. Most of the food was very good. However, I didn't care for the greens and the corn bread is more like a "corn cake". My cocktail was supposed to have jalapeno, but I didn't taste it or the alcohol.
Manager was great. Saw that food was taking a while to make it to the table, came over and was very accommodating. Food was delicious, the gumbo sensational.
Staff was friendly, food was served quickly, and it was delicious!
