My husband and I took some visiting family members to this restaurant for dinner on a Friday night. The staff did a decent job of adding a table when we realized we had miscounted our party, though we did have to ask them twice to move the table. Aside from that, our server was attentive (almost too much, as she took plates that weren't ready to be cleared a couple of times), and the food was great! Our entire group was happy with what they ordered, and we ordered a variety of dishes, so that says a lot for the food. My only other concern was that it was difficult for our elderly family members to climb the stairs, though I know that can't be "fixed". However, it would be good for others to know that if they have mobility problems, they should request to be seated on the first floor. Despite that, I would definitely return!
The restaurant wasn't crowded when we arrived for our reservation so we were seated right away. We ordered the calamari as an appetizer and drinks. Both arrived in good time. We also ordered our entrees when we ordered the appetizer and drinks and the entrees came our moments after we finished the appetizer. My husband orders the pulled pork with cheese and french fries and did not seem thrilled with his meal. I ordered the salmon which was very tasty and cooked to order. Overall, the restaurant did not "wow" us, but we did enjoy ourselves.
We were sat outside next to an incredibly loud table of 10. We politely asked to sit inside and the manager acted like it was quite an inconvenience for him. The food was fair- it tasted like a boxed frozen dinner, but cooked in the oven instead of the microwave.
Several areas within the restaurant offer different experiences! One loud sports watching fun area, other areas still lively but easier to talk, outside dining is lively with great people watching opportunities. Food was delicious. 1/2 price Thursday wine night offered two really good wines at an affordable price. Best was hospitality offered by our host Wilmont!! His attention and personality turned our evening from just dinner out to a dining experience! Thanks Wilmont!
Pros: Great brunch with endless mimosas. Had a reservation but didn't need it so that was great.
Cons: Food came out cold but was super hungry so no time to send back. Endless mimosas were great until about 3hrs later I had the worst headache which generally acco for cheap alcohol.
Arrived 20 minutes early for a 1:45p Saturday brunch. Patio and bar area were fairly full, but we were seated immediately. The shrimp and grits were excellent, definitely recommended. Also had the SoHo Breakfast. Traditional breakfast so nothing to brag or complain about. We sat in the patio, nice place for Adams Morgan people watching and the wait staff was very attentive.
We arrived and saw they won't split checks. I was traveling for work and needed my receipt separate. I also didn't realize they didn't have a kids menu. When I asked, she simply stated, no. I said, nothing? Her response was "no, am I putting the water down or not".....
The draft beer, collards, and mac and cheese were good but I would not call this an authentic Southern restaurant because of the fried chicken. It was a breaded butterflied breast. There were no bone-in options and no dark meat options. That's a chicken tender not Southern fried chicken. The menu also was lacking in Southern staples. But I will try brunch there some time because it gets very good reviews and the service and seating were good.
Disappointed in the way that the host treated our party: rude, unwilling to listen, made a person with walking difficulties move to a table on the upper floor. Makes it hard to recommend Southern Hospitality if this is the way guests are treated upon arrival.
Server, on the other hand, was terrific.
The southern comfort food was spot on and quirky atmosphere was fun, but the loud gangster rap (i.e. Notorious BIG, et al.) was inappropriate for mixed clientele and unfitting for the ambience of the restaurant. To its credit, the staff changed the music when asked.
Ordered the Florentine Benedict and was less than enthused. Could only eat one of the eggs as they tasted really sour & the muffin was soggy. Bottomless mimosas were truly bottomless though, which was the only reason I gave it an extra star. Servers were way too busy to accommodate everyone and could not keep up.
The food was amazing. Tasty, fresh and creative. I had the shrimp and grits; best I've ever had. And the arugula salad; also great. My husband was just as pleased with his fried chicken with mac and cheese. Our only regret is that we ate so much of our dinner that we didn't have room for pecan pie. Next time. The service was a bit slow, but the wait staff was friendly.
Food is at best subpar. ai had a breakfast sandwich, which was alright. We also ordered fried green tomatoes and it was soo dissappointing! they were soggy as if they had been sitting out. They should have been hot and crispy on the outside! Fail.
Also had the tater tots which tasted like tots from my middle school cafeteria 35 years ago! will not go back.
Pros were the ambience and wait staff, which were very attentive.
Decided to visit based on a quick Yelp search for "Best Brunch in DC Area" and this place appeared. Best advice I have taken in a long time. The spouse had Chicken and Waffles came with fruit side, I had the Shrimp and Grits, and the couple with us enjoyed the French toast with fruit and Bottomless Mimosas (amazing). Being from out of town, this was a new adventure for us, and a great way to spend Father's Day Morning.
