The restaurant canceled my reservation due to shutting down.
It was our 31 anniversary the restaurant is CLOSED, we even got a confirmation mail from Open Tabke
We spender on taxi more than 30.00 to get there and nothing
I am extremely disappointed by Southern Hospitality. We had guests in town from overseas and all they wanted to do was try Macaroni. We booked a reservation here, but when we showed up, the restaurant was closed. The lights were on, but nobody was in there and the door was locked. I completely understand that sometimes things happen out of our control, but there wasn't even a sign on the door. The least they could've done was put a sign up explaining the situation. I was then unable to book another reservation because it said I was currently dining at Southern Hospitality already. I tried calling and there was no answer. I tried calling the next day and there was no answer. I left and voicemail...nobody returned my call. Very disappointing experience for our out-of-town guests. There were also many people outside who seemed confused too.
Restaurant was not open when I arrived.
I can't really give a review because we got to the restaurant and it was closed
The restaurant was closed with no notice. FedEx notice in door was 3 days old! No notice on their website either!
This location no longer exists.
Restaurant put sign in window saying they'd close at 4pm and reopen at 5pm. They hadn't reopened by 5:12 and there was no sign of life inside, so we left.
The restaurant was closed when we arrived and appeared to have been closed for several days so we were unable to eat there. Not sure why it still let us make a reservation if it was closed. Very disappointing!
We were there for a dinner before the show
They were closed!!!???
This restaurant does not exist anymore. We stand for a closed door. A former employee explained the situation to us.
Place is old and dirty. Server told us they’re closing soon so everyone seems to be doing a half done job. Sorry to see this.
The menu is limited and scratches the surface for a Southern restaurant.
There was a mix up with my reservation and we initially got a high top table which would have been on the small side for three people. The restaurant wasn't opening up the empty back room for some reason but 20 minutes after our reservation time we were able to move to a different table.
We had a very friendly waitress who looked after us all evening. The fried chicken was good, but the catfish was spicier than the menu indicated. So they should tell people it's more that mildly spicy.
We wanted something for dessert but less heavy than what was on the menu. Since they had ice cream we had the waitress bring that out for us to share.
I think the restaurant isn't quite as good as it used to be (I think it's smaller, for starters). But I would go back for the fried chicken.
It was a quiet day and it took a little while to get a drinks order to start, but our server was lovely and very friendly and helpful there on in.
Unfortunately the food was very average. Two of us had burgers which were both quite dry and the tater tots were very oily. The other got the chicken and waffles but had to send the chicken back.
Again, our server was wonderful when sending the chicken back and couldn't fault her.
Did love the music they were playing though!
I was really disappointed that there was hardly anything GF on menu. I edning up eating plain hamburger with no bun
Waitress forgot to bring apppetitzers of potatoe skins.
Tacos could have been made with Corn flour nachos.
Drinks were great!
The food was not good tasting. The baby back ribs were overly dry and not meaty. The burgers were tasteless. However it is a lively place to have beer and drinks.
Excellent service. Walked in wanted to eat at Southern H and also catch the basketball match. Host at the front was awesome in finding the channel for us, really took care of us even before we sat down. Food was great and servers were really professional.
The waitress service that we were give was way below standard. She was not knowledgeable of items on the menu . She was not aware of the drink menu for the day & she brought out food that was not fully prepared as ordered. She had to go and check each time we asked for some particular item on the menu to see if they had it. and the worst is that she brought out ice tea we made a comment that it was kind a like feisty so it must be lemonade she told us no it’s iced tea I know it wasn’t right why would you bring something that’s not right if anything, ask if you want it first but she brought it and then later let us know she knew it wasn’t right .
The ambiance of the restaurant was exactly as expected though it was a bit loud. The food was fine but nothing special. Two of the entrees were missing ingredients that were described in the menu. Getting drink refills took more effort than it should have. We would’ve gotten another round or two but we couldn’t find our server.
All in all it was a middle-of-the-road dining experience but not a place I’d feel the need to revisit.
I was very excited to try this place, being a huge fan of southern cuisine. We went for brunch for Mother's Day. While the service was excellent, the food was lacking, but mostly because of discrepancies between the menu and what was served. We started with the "breaking bread" plate. The menu states that it comes with "hot honey butter" and "apple cider syrup." I admit, I mentally inserted a comma between "hot honey" and "butter," so I was disappointed when there was no hot honey. The butter was indeed flavored, but it did not taste like hot honey. And there was definitely no syrup. I asked for both, and received both, but the waiter wasn't aware of what was on the printed menu.
For my meal, I ordered the "Chickenman" and a biscuit (I am a sucker for biscuits!). Counter to the menu, I don't know if there was any pepper jack cheese or "Alabama bbq" on the sandwiches. There were two dark-meat fried chickens-on-a-biscuit, tots, and a small salad. It wasn't bad, but it wasn't what was advertised.
The waiter was kind enough to warn us against a couple of items that were, in his opinion, not worth the dough (thanks!). My daughter ordered deviled eggs; there are three, but piled high with pate. She also ordered the breakfast baked tater skins (there are four) and loved them. My wife enjoyed her waffle.
So it wasn't bad, but it wasn't spectacular. Not sure if I would return.
I was really excited to visit this place because it was featured on Thrillist, but I was very underwhelmed. Once we sat we waited for over 10 minutes for our server to stop by (the dining room was had only four other tables of people in it) and the food we mediocre. I was really disappointed.
We have been here on many occasions and have loved everything but something has changed, venue not as lively and funky as before. Menu has changed and is not as good as before. Sorry to say this will not be a place we return to or recommend
It's a nice location for a pre-theater meal, but the food is pretty average.
Great! Always love the food here!
Kind of loud at brunch. Easy to get a reservation on a Saturday for 6. Now I know why. Menu pushes all-you-can drink alcohol (for one hour) at the expense of food. OJ not fresh squeezed. I ordered decaf coffee and was told they don't serve decaf. Had to ask for butter and jam for biscuit. Got butter and Dijon. Then told they don't serve jam. Very good breakfast sausage links. Expensive for what you got. Won't go back.
Food was delicious, environment was fun and music spoke to my soul! It was a blast singing along to music I listened to in high school and college! Definitely will be back!
NO BEER ON TAP!
Only 2 brands of bottled beer available
Pulled Pork and Ribs were great. Chicken was greasy and brisket dry and tasteless. Not great value but the service from our waiter was excellent and dealt with the issues brilliantly.
Food is average, if you are thinking southern food you will not find many choices here. What is available, is not the best. The old menu had great southern choices of food. Wish they can bring it back.
The food was mediocre and the music was too loud to hear my friends. One in our party had the nachos and those were good but two of us got the salad with chicken on it and the chicken was so tough it was hard to chew.
Great food and service. Love the seating by the street.
Great food that came out of the kitchen quickly. Good place for social gatherings and trying something new. Would recommend fried dill pickle chips.
The fried chicken is amazing, and a decent whiskey selection. Recommend!
Hosts/Reservationists were helpful, and staff were welcoming - They gave us the best table for our group of ten, right by the open windows along the sidewalk for a fine sunny Sunday brunch. Food and beverages were good, tasty, well portioned and as expected. Service was very good. Only short comings were: NO COFFEE! And as with many bar/restaurants in NYC catering to sports fans amongst the rest of humanity, the music was too loud. Hence the table nearest the sidewalk helped - sirens and traffic noise was the less intrusive option. But at the end of the day our Argentine guests were happy, so we are happy.
The food was excellent. Everything we ordered tasted great. What we didn't order also tasted good, but it was not what I ordered. We ordered fried green tomatoes as an appetizer. Well our appetizer arrived with our meal. When I questioned the server as to what he was giving us he said fried green tomatoes. I told him that is not what those looked like the last time, but he insisted. So I guess to the server tomatoes and pickles look alike. The fried pickles were tasty, but not what I ordered and also why would the appetizer arrive with the meal. I could not ask the waitress because we never saw her again after she took the order until she saw our plates were removed and in passing asked if we needed anything else. How about a refill on the water, extra napkins, another drink? Even after she came by with the check another waiter saw we were waiting too long so he took care of the check. So the food was good, but we drew the short straw on the waitstaff.
Sadly the menu seems to have changed and made it less calue than before. The ribs are no longer that really meaty cut that they used to have, and they no longer come with beans included. The included cornbread is now just a half slice whereas it used to be a little mini loaf. So sadly this place will no longer be on my regular list. I libe locally and loved coming here for my ribs fix. Oh well - saving money for the restaurant seems to have overridden customer satisfaction
Place is poorly managed no liquor on shelves, ran out of beer
Food and service was great, I wish they would of had the fried shrimp on the lunch menu. And add some vegetarian dishes to menu. I drove from PA for the fried shrimp. I had shrimp and grits and it was delicious.
This bbq was recommended by friends who had previously visited. It was delicious with a great variety on the menu but not too much to get ‘stumped’ by and all reasonably priced. It was amazing and a great drinks menu too.
