Southern Hospitality - Hell's Kitchen Ratings and Reviews
Mediocre food that's overpriced; strictly for tourists who don't know better. Most checked out server ever...when we were finally able to flag her down to order entrees, she instead brought the check. Wasn't expecting a fine dining experience, but for a c note for two people eating comfort food without alcohol, you can't just phone it in.
Food quality has diminished since I started dining here back in 2011 when I moved to NYC. Have not been in a while so we decided to walk down and have some good food, boy what a mistake. Quality not the same and increased prices. Should have know when the place was half full on a Friday night. Will not eat there again for free
I was not happy with the food. Because of the name of the place I expected some good southern food. I had the fried chicken and biscuit. The chicken was way over done and dry and the biscuit was dry and chalky - not very tasty at all. I think the seasoning of the chicken was okay but it was fried too long. I had a sangria and it was watered down and small and not very good. I had the banana pudding and that was very good. But, I am sorry about this because the wait staff was very good and attentive and I really like the atmosphere. I think they need to get some advice on the southern cooking. Speak with somebody at Sylvia's - they know how to fry chicken!
I have been to Southern Hospitality a few times and every single time I go, I have a great time! From the host/hostess to the waiter/waitress and the manager, everyone was extremely friendly, and attentive to detail. It was my friend's birthday so it was a big group. The Southern Hospitality team was awesome! They made her birthday perfect! She had such a great time and I'm so glad we chose Southern Hospitality. My food was amazing, I even brought some home for leftovers to have the next day. Our group enjoys different types of food and every single one of us found something on the menu that we enjoyed. The team was attentive to our table, very friendly and funny, and made our overall experience awesome, especially after a long day at work ha! We had a reservation and we were super late so they had to give away our table (understandable) and because of that, they were very accommodating and offered the birthday girl a drink :)
When you hear about a BBQ restaurant in NYC, you may raise an eyebrow and move along to the next choice. Don't. Southern Hospitality has AMAZING, authentic Memphis BBQ, and it's a quick bite before a show. Service is fast, friendly, and there's always a drink special. Best brisket I've ever had, and the atmosphere is casual and fun. Great spot in Hell's Kitchen!
The food was quite honestly terrible. Incredibly overcooked, pasty, cafeteria level grits and ridiculously rubbery fried eggs, gelatinous white gravy that congealed into a thick skin. Inattentive server; we had to ask the hostess to ask someone to take our order, then had to consistently flag them down for water and more drinks. The table next to us had to literally wave their arms and flag the waitress down to get their check.
What was once a good place has fallen to the do-not-recommend list. Don't waste your time or money.
All of the food was lame: collard greens were hard, mac & cheese had a weird slippery feeling like it had Crisco in it (ugh), the chicken was dry, service average (never came once to ask if we wanted refills or needed anything & it wasn't that busy), biscuits horrible and dry, ice tea weak...I have never written a bad review like this, but for the money they are charging you, there are way better restaurants serving southern/soul food in the city. I'll never go back.
Service was great. Friendly and attentive. I didn't feel rushed at all. Menu was really good too. Food was good though very salty. I like salt but I think it was way too heavy handed on the avocado app, the chili, the French fries, brisket etc. everything we had was very salty. I would go again though.
As always, a great night to show off this personal favorite restaurant of mine to friends for out of town. They are, as am I, Texans by birth, and were quite impressed with the food, and the wide beer and beverage selection. Always a go to destination in my book when I am midtown.
My girlfriend and I were both extremely excited to patronize this restaurant. She and I both go to a new restaurant every Sunday for brunch and libations, so for she and I to have an unpleasant experience is disheartening. We had a 1:45p reservation, though we weren't seated until well after 2:00pm. Once seated, ordered and our food arrived we were both disappointed. My crab cake was over cooked and dry, as were my eggs and grits. We asked for separated checks and our waitress brought it together. I wouldn't recommend this restaurant to anyone.
Amazing service, amazing staff and best of all, AMAZING FOOD!!! Josh and his staff are above and beyond great and very friendly as well.
Took my 15 year old daughter to NYC for the weekend and many people referred us to this place. Best advice we got!
The interior is as authentic looking as the food and it is worth every penny.
I HIGHLY RECOMMEND SOUTHERN HOSPITALITY to anyone looking for a great place to eat, drink and have a great time!
This was the best !
Pulled pork dinner was excellent. Was really looking forward to Tennessse Chcken Fingers that night but for some reason they were hard as a rock the batter and had to pull the chicken out of batted in fear of breaking a tooth. Kinda disappointed. Service was excellent and found staff to be very friendly.
This restaurant is always a go to when friends visit from out of town. The service is always excellent, and the food is genuine "down home", "stick to your ribs" southern cooking. The fried chicken is out of this world good. And the bar-b-que is delicious and authentic. One of my favorites in midtown Manhattan.
