We were visiting Chicago for a quick get-away. Our hotel was directly across from Southern Cut and we were SO GLAD that it was!!! From the time we walked in, the staff could not have been nicer, the wait staff could not have been more accommodating and friendly and the food was served quickly and tasted OUTSTANDING!!! An excellent place to dine!!! Loved everything about it!!!
Best beet salad ever had!!
This was my second time here. The food is only upstaged by the service. Would recommend!
Very prompt, polite service and some of the best ribs I’ve ever eaten.
We love the Ribs & Baked Beans
lunch was nice and quiet, and not crowded.
food was a bit pricey, surprised that prices were the same for lunch and dinner.
$19 burger better be fantastic. we had BBQ and it was good, had good flavor, but a bit dry.
sauces on table are nice and tasty.
platters to share but only one small coleslaw bowl?
service was great, waiter and day manager were friendly and attentive.
bus boys kept water full, did not get asked for a refill for iced tea.
quick lunch
Did not like that the only side that came with a meal were the chips. They had other sides but you had to purchase them separately. The food was ok but not outstanding . Service was great though.
The place is beautiful and clean. The staff was friendly. The food was “meh”. We ordered the brisket hash. Half of the brisket pieces were just solid fat. The cocktail was small for the price. We expected it to come in a high ball glass but it came in a champagne glass. Really was hoping to have a great review based on what we read online, but really wasn’t impressed.
I love the relaxed feel of this place. The ambiance was so relaxing and had a great feel. I definitely would return to try more dishes. The ribs were so tender and well seasoned. It was by far amazing. Service was well-timed and friendly, everything was affordable.
Met up with some friends here for lunch before heading to a matinee nearby. Food and service was excellent! Good value for the money too.
This was a great find. Food was fabulous. I am Gluten Free and there were plenty of options. The brisket was probably the best I have had. The brisket chili was fit for a foodie as reported by dinner mates. The atmosphere was nice and had an upscale vibe for a BBQ restaurant which was different and refreshing. More like a bistro than a BBQ joint. Would highly recommend to those in the Chicago area.
We tried a number of items and all of them were very good and some great. Loved the chili and the Jalapeno and Cheddar sausage. The ribs were very good. The pulled pork was great and the brisket were great.
We arrived to a fairly empty restaurant . This was my third and last time there.
The server was trying to be helpful and when both our dishes arrived luke warm they were very accommodating and warmed them up. ( in the micro?).They were now warm.
One of the dishes was too salty ( chili) and the meat dish was dry and had very little flavor.(chopped brisket) The cornbread was very oily.
The first time I was there I had the sliced brisket. It was so thin, it had no flavor at all. My friend’s ribs made her stomach upset.
They did comp dessert to try to make up for the food being cold and the server was very apologetic .
I grew up in the South and know what real barbecue tastes like.Sorry, I’ll have to wait to visit home and taste the real thing.
Great barbecue restaurant near the Magnificent Mile! Our server Constance was very pleasant and made great suggestions for choices of side dishes to accompany our meats. We enjoyed the pulled pork, chopped brisket, coleslaw, sweet potatoes & candied pecans and jalapeño cornbread with maple pecan butter. This meal was AMAZING! Next time we hope to have room for dessert.🌶
Great food as always........ Great service.................... Excellent vibe....... !!!!!
We enjoyed our dinner at the Southern Cut Barbecue. Since there are already many reviews highlighting their great food, good ambiance, and good service, I will only point out the following that we appreciated the most:
I was initially concerned about going to a southern bbq place, because my daughter (3.5 years old) would only consume meat. Even though we always add salads to our orders, she ends up skipping the veggies the most of the times. Thankfully, here at the Southern Cut Barbecue, we were given a kids plate, which consisted of carrots and apples, before the appetizers! This way, my daughter already had her amount of veggies before the actual meals had started!
I really appreciated this gesture by the restaurant. It shows how much they care about the needs of their customers. The following bbq nachos, corn bread, ribs, etc. made our positive experience complete.
One of the best eating out experiences ever! With large groups managing everyone can be a struggle. This place was phenomenal!! Food was great! Location to our hotel was perfect. (The Westin)
This place is amazing!!!! The food was great, the service was top notch and I enjoyed every second!!! Try the sweet corn, it’s like elote, but not on the cob. And the jalapeño cornbread with maple pecan butter is AMAZING!!! I left stuffed and uncomfortable, lol!! I ate waaayyyy too much because it was just that good!
We were in Chicago celebrated Valentine's Day and my birthday. Southern Cut was a perfect choice. Romantic enough for me, good bbq for him. Will definitely go back when we return to Chicago.
Amazing service, great food! Love Southern Cut.
Last minute decision to eat here and very glad we did. Sat in the bar and other than a couple of loud mouths who soon left, the ambiance was beautiful. Drinks, burger sliders, amazing brisket baked beans, excellent pickles and great Carolina barbecue sauce made for an excellent meal. One extra side we weren’t too crazy about and our server took it off bill since we didn’t eat it. That’s a classy thing to do and other restaurants should take note.
Food good service great
Over all a great restaurant! Cute and cozy atmosphere, great service and a lot of food options. Will definitely go back.
Very good BBQ joint. My son said .. I always wondered how you would do a "upscale BBQ restaurant, now I know." I had the pulled pork sandwich and the the pretzel bun was PERFECTLY toasted and the recommendation for mixing the BBQ sauces was fantastic. My guys liked the mac & cheese and the cornbread with jalapeño butter was tasty and warm. Beer choices were very good but not great... but when you are serving 3 Floyds you know they know beer. We shared the key lime pie to top the evening off and it was good but could've had a little more intense lime flavor. Kevin our waiter was superb!
Too much vinegar, garlic, etc. Excellent service and wine selection. Fries unusually good. Overpriced for expense accounts...?
Great menu - fun evening! Service was very good. Would definitely come back.
Good food, good service.
The breakfast was awesome. The place is small and quaint. It is perfect for Sunday brunch. It’s a real gem in downtown and it’s walking distance for most of the major hotels. A real must see for all types of travelers .
Everyone left full and happy. Good range of prices for pre-game or in our case, pre-theater dining. All of the food was very good and service was pleasant and prompt. Long bar is great for casual dining. Nice atmosphere, cozy but upscale.
I loved Southern Cut! Our server, Colin, helped make my fiancé’s birthday dinner so special and made awesome recommendations!
Great place to meet with friends for brunch.
BBQ AWAS SPOT on and definitely worth a trip in. Will be back again and again BEST BBQ in Chicago.
Romantic feel inside, good food!
Great options, sides were amazing...
Very cute restaurant with excellent food and even better dessert. Southern Cut is a definite “must try”.
Great smoke and rub. Very good service for reasonable prices.
The food was great and only surpassed by the service....thanks.
This place was amazing! The staff was very friendly, the food was amazing, and the overall atmosphere was great! I would definitely come back and refer to a friend/ family.
Some of the best bbq I've had in Chicago!! Hands down.
Upscale place. A place with "SOUTHERN" and "BARBECUE" in their name should have Okra, Sweet Tea to drink and Hush Puppies to dip into the BBQ sauces .
