Southern Cut Barbecue
Our second time at Southern Cuts. We love the ambiance. The ribs and mac / cheese are our favorite items
Awful!!! Service was the worst I have seen.
Food fine, but felt a bit rushed along and the place was not full.
Our meal was excellent! The chopped brisket is the best I’ve ever eaten. Also, we were so happy our server suggested the cornbread...very yummy.
THis was our first visit. The food was very good. We will be back.
Only reason why it received 4 stars because the hostess came off as a little rude. Other than that everything else was phenomenal. Best part is the banana fofana cream pie
The food is consistently good but the service is consistently lacking. In addition to being slow for a pretty empty restaurant, there were 3 separate mistakes made with our order. This is similar to my last experience at the restaurant. A good spot if you are looking for good bbq, and don’t mind a few service hiccups along the way.
Party of 5
Good barbecue. , cornbread, baked beans
Service is excellent and friendly. Great menu with variety--something for everyone, from the vegetarian to the fish and meat lovers!
Always updating with specials as well. Good wine list, reasonable prices.
Food is always amazing. The restaurant employs a lot of international exchange students and those who need work visas. Unless you go very often, you probably won’t get the same server twice. Everyone is pretty nice in general.
The ambiance and service was very nice. The food was below average. The brisket and pull chicken tasted old and lacked flavor. The price for the BBQ was not worth the quality and the side were very over priced.
Planned to eat out later in the night and knew Southern Cut would be open so we decided to go there. Glad we did. Good food, good service, and close by home.
Food was super greasy, not in a good way. My server was not engaging and made no effort to make my experience special, I might as well have been ordering at a fast food take out place. Don't waste your time.
Southern Cut is in a great neighborhood and has a lovely outdoor café and you can expect good service, but, disappointingly, it is overpriced and everything comes a la carte.
Best RIBS in the world
Great birthday party
Will go back soon
Service was scattered and grouchy, other than the bus staff who were wonderful and helpful in their stead. Food was bland and cold, although the pulled chicken was good. Just wasn’t a good experience, especially with so many other good BBQ places in the city.
I have eaten here a few time now,and I like the location and the food and service have been great !!
The food was fair. I ordered a grilled cheese which was just toasted bread with a lukewarm piece of cheese. Did not qualify as GRILLED cheese at all.
Also, my daughter has food allergies and the waiter and manager had great difficulty finding the information regarding what BBQ sauce she could eat safely. They had no information regarding allergens and were not helpful in trying to find this information for us. I would not dine there again.
The staff was friendly but seemed overwhelmed. It was labor day weekend but it felt that everyone was new. Started with the tuna watermelon app, couldn't taste the tuna or the watermelon because the guacamole overwhelmed all the flavors. The brisket and chicken we ordered came out cold and was underwhelming in appearance and flavor. The jalapeno corn bread was nice and the parmesan fries were good. We were staying at the Drake and the concierge recommended it but I think she did only because it is in walking distance.
First time here and we will be back. Celebrating a birthday. They brought dessert with a candle. Loved the devil eggs app. Ribs were delicious!!
Last minute reservation and great experience!
This was our 1st time here. We are local Chicagoans.. Loved the food and décor etc. Particularly have to say we had the best waitress, Terry. She was delightful and very attentive.
A little pricey for Bar B Q, but we will return.
Overall decent time. We sat outside on a beautiful night. There were four men and one woman. We were bummed they were out of sliced brisket and the wait staff underestimated the amount of food we should order (one salad each and whole slab of ribs to start, two three meat platters, two orders of baked beans). I’d go back now that I’m more informed but not my favorite place.
We received great service and the food was delicious.
We did not have to wait and were consistently served.
Service was terrible. We ordered a salad for an appetizer and two entrees + side. Server brought out salad, one entree and side together. We asked why it was all brought out together and she offered to take my entree back to “keep it warm” while we ate our salad and bring it back. About 20 minutes in, we asked about the 2nd entree that never appeared. The server claimed we never ordered it, but we explained it was ordered along with the side that was delivered. She offered to put it in, but by this point we were nearly finished. Finally a manager came by and asked how everything was going. We shared our experience and he apologized and offered to comp items on our bill. The food we had was good, but will never go back because of the service.
enjoyed it! Will go again , going to return with friends from Germany on Sept 7th
My wife and I love to come to Southern Cut. Because of work and personal travel, it had been almost a year since we had been able to dine here, and sometimes memories build up and the reality disappoints - that was definitely not the case here. The food was excellent as we remembered it and we both were extremely pleased. The server was attentive without hovering and, unlike some other BBQ restaurants we have been to in the city the noise level was such that it was easy to have a casual conversation over dinner. We will definitely be back again.
Service was poor especially since there were very few tables to manage.
The food was delicious and the service was great. I would dine here again.
Loved this place! Delicious food, relaxing atmosphere. Would definitely go back and recommend it b
The burger was well done, not medium. The brisket was really fatty and it took nearly 50 minutes to get food. All of the sides other than chips and slaw are ala carte so the meal got expensive fast
Delicious food in a casual atmosphere. Loved the ribs and the brisket. Great service. We will be back!
Fantastic food, service, and atmosphere. We ate at several places during our stay in Chicago and Southern Cut was by far the best!
Good BBQ, conveniently located, happened upon it walking back to hotel.
Food was outstanding, the restaurant as a whole was fantastic as always. Sarah, our waitress, was absolutely horrible.
Couches are very uncomfortable for dining. Had to move to a regular table. Didn’t have Bulleit which is on the menu. Server didn’t know bourbons to help with selection even though that seems to be a focus of the restaurant. Took a long time for server to come back to take food order because she was talking to other workers near kitchen. Restaurant had few customers so it was not that she was busy. Cornbread advertises having jalapeño but none detected. No heat at all. A little too dry. Food ok and came out cold or warm, nothing hot. No one thought it was good, just ok. Based on food quality we had no reason to look at desert menu. Will not be back or recommend.
Jalapeno cornbread was absolutely delicious. Smoked BBQ was excellent as well.
Good food and well priced. Very good service also. But the whole restaurant is very noisy and we made the mistake of sitting in the bar area which, when we arrived, was quite quiet. Then half way into our meal a loud party arrived at the bar and as often happens showed no thought for those around them. They camped out almost on top of our table and partied, loudly and inconsiderately. Probably not smart to eat in the bar area but the selfishness of some people and disregard for others never fails to astound me. Our meal and experience was ruined, but not the fault of the Southern Cut BbQ
Best barbecue I've had in Chicago in a long time! The banana pie is like eating a piece of heaven!
It's not the *best* barbecue, but for a convenient neighborhood place it's good enough.
