Went for Mother’s Day Brunch. Took 2.5 hours from arrival to departure. Steaks were raw no matter how it was supposed to be cooked. Had to ask for steak knives, spoons, condiments. Our waiter was good, just constrained by the obvious kitchen issues. It’s too bad as the facilites have been updated. At $40 / person you would expect a lot more.
My 14 oz ribeye was mostly fat and only about 3/8” thick was initially undercooked. The risotto was very good and the crab cake was acceptable. Everything was severely under seasoned and the shrimp bisque tasted like warm cream with a touch of cayenne pepper. My wife’s wedge salad included a healthy dose of Kraft blue cheese dressing. For such an expensive meal I was incredibly disappointed.

The food was terrible. Our server was very nice and very pleasant but we were there for my sister‘s birthday I had marked “birthday” when I made the reservation she was opening gifts at the table and there was no mention from the server about her birthday. Four out of five of us at the table got steaks and they were all over cooked. We all just ate them anyway except my sons who ordered his ribeye medium rare and definitely got a well-done piece of meat. Very very disappointed because we had been there one time before and it was so good that’s why I made my reservation to come back and celebrate my sisters birthday. It was beyond the restaurants control but there was also a couple sitting a few tables from us that argued the whole time and then got up yelling at each other and stormed out of the restaurant. After the first time we were there we were very excited about this restaurant but I have to say we will not be back
Note- Many restaurants are struggling to get servers and kitchen staff so this should be factored into this review somewhat. Until government "stimulus" checks stop incentivizing people to not work, this will continue to be true. Our server was apologetic for slow service and un-bussed tables due this issue. Hostess and server were as nice as could be but the lack of staff is a killer.
Arrived on time for reservation, seated promptly. Sat 10 min before acknowledged by server (to be fair there was only 1 server we could see), after 15 mins were offered water by hostess. Table next to us was empty and unbussed for the first 50 minutes of our dinner. Two other tables were unbussed for entire 1:45 dinner. Bread basket was cold and dry - seemed day-old. Food not delivered to table for an hour. Ordered filet mignon medium and medium-rare; received medium-well and well-done. Too bad, too - the cut of beef was pretty good. At $34 a plate, that's not acceptable. Loaded baked potato seemed more like a thrice-baked (or worse) potato. Barely edible.
Had hoped the "Chop" name indicated a renovated restaurant but alas it is still a 1990's era Marriott dining room. That would be okay if the food were above par but it's not. Even the hotel isn't committed to this concept - the sign over the door is a cheap vinyl banner. If I'd paid attention to the red flags that were going off in my head while walking through the door, I'd have left and gone elsewhere and chanced it on a waiting list.
Bottom line, if you are doing a special date night or occasion, keep driving and go to The Bottle or Chop. If you're startling at the hotel and don't have transportation elsewhere, it might be okay for breakfast and lunch, but for dinner don't wait until you're hungry to go to the dining room.
This is located inside the Marriott at the Space & Rocket Center in Huntsville, AL. There are not a lot of options for dinner. Food was ok.

Some food items were good such as the bread pudding. Others need improvement on taste. Extremely bland and lacking that star quality. It was just ok. Service was great. Professional staff. Nice ambiance.
Food was amazing but was a bit pricey. Cost was like a Ruth Chris without all of the selections or ambience! Still a pleasant surprise! Recommended for sure!

I had the pork chop and the pimento mac and cheese, with shrimp bisque to start. The bisque was outstanding, and served hot. The pimento mac and cheese was a surprise...maybe my favorite part of the meal. The pasta used, the texture and the unique cheese flavor was a 10. The pork chop was beautifully dressed but lacking in flavor. It was topped with pineapple for that lovely sweet salty mix but both fell short. The pineapple wasn’t sweet and the meat wasn’t as salty as I expect with a chop like this. It was still delicious but that’s what kept me to 4 stars on the food. The ambience was lacking but mostly because it was early (I suspect). It was too bright and too quiet. Tables were spread out because of covid restrictions but I could still hear every word of both parties close to me. Music would have helped and maybe dim the lights a little. The server was prompt and attentive, well done sir.
Our server (Rodney) was great and the cocktails were amazing but the food was just ok. The grouper was not seasoned and cold. The steak had a good flavor but a little too rare for my taste. We were seated before our reservation time which was great but we ended up waiting for over an hour before we got our entrees.
Our server was very sweet, nice and attentive. The ambience had a retro feel to it. The overhead music was too low to hear, and we felt that we had to whisper so that others wouldn’t hear our conversation. It would have made the ambiance so much better if the music was a little louder and the lights dimmed. It was just way to quiet to enjoy a conversation while dining. We had the ribeye and the tea brined brick chicken. The ribeye was ok, but had too much char on the outside. The chicken was dry and didn’t have much flavor; however, the braised and smoked Turkey greens were some of the best I have ever had. This was our first time trying this restaurant. We felt that the food is overpriced given the quality and taste of our food.
After a long drive to Huntsville, we were rewarded with a great meal and service at Southern Chop. Thanks so much for being open and accommodating.
With only a few patrons the food shouldn't have been cold or the veggies uneditable. Staff was great
My husband and i had an excellent experience at Southern Chop! Rodney was an attentive and wonderful server. Suzanne, the bar tender was amazing and made me a cocktail that wasn’t on the menu but it was super delicious! I had the fresh catch special which was phenomenal & my hubby loved his perfectly cooked Ribeye steak. We will definitely be going back!!!!

We went New Years Eve. Did not know they had a very limited menu along with a New Years Eve menu. Locked into overpriced limited choice options, with average service and quality. Simply an average meal, not the quality I was expecting. Not my money’s worth.
Great Christmas Eve Dinner. Hoping to make it a tradition.
We went for the Christmas Eve brunch. The food was incredible. Loved the family style and menu choices. Great for adults and children. Everything made from scratch and the quality was fabulous. We loved it so much we plan to return next year.
Really excellent steak, cooked perfectly to order! Shrimp were also excellent. Overall experience was ok. Venue is renovated restaurant at Mariott Hotel.Service was good. Charcuterie advertised as locally sourced but not sure everything is local - still quite good. Desserts were very good.
We decided to give this place a try! The restaurant is located inside the Marriott and it has its own entrance. The menu was small, but the food was good. On a scale of 1-10, we give it a solid 6. The place was basically empty (which is great for COVID season), but it don’t expect It to stay that way. Give it a shot!!
