Southern Art and Bourbon Bar Ratings and Reviews
The restaurant is beautiful and has such a unique feel - the design is so fun and exciting. We ordered the fried green tomato appetizer and were a little disappointed - they were dry and seemed like they had been frozen/sitting out for a while as there was no crunch to the breading. My husband got a seabass entree and I got the fried chicken, which we were both happy with. The carrot cake dessert was great, as well as the wine list. The service is great as well. Overall, it was a nice evening and we enjoyed our date - will return!
I was concerned after reading some reviews about the slow service and food arriving cold at the table. I was ready to cancel my reservation but am so glad I didn’t. The food was sooo delicious and everything came out nice and hot. The fried green tomatoes were a hit! That’s a must have - We were fighting for the last one. My husband had another must have - buttermilk fried chicken. Even though he was stuffed he had to finish every last piece - it was that good! The sweet potato side was also a must have. Everyone enjoyed their dish and were very happy! To top things off our waiter was so helpful, funny and had a super cool demeanor. The service was a tad on the slow side but it gave us time to talk and enjoy the company a little longer. No one had an issue. We all loved it and waddle our back to our hotel!
The staff was very friendly but it went downhill from there. The service was spotty, at best. The pork chop was overdone and dry. The fried chicken was okay but fried too dark and on the verge of being dry. The sides were nothing special. The desert was small but delicious; the high point of the evening. The crowd was unendingly loud. The reduced price was still at a level where we could have had two good meals at a neighborhood restaurant. I wanted my son and I to have a special meal at a really high class place and I was greatly disappointed by the entire experience.
Everything started out well with the Hostess; she was great. The waiter started out well, but his performance waned as the evening progressed. I had to ask another server to find him, so we could get our check. He stopped showing up. The food was just o.k. It cooled down quickly; not sure if it wasn't brought out soon enough or what. It wasn't a good value for the price. I'm not opposed to going back as some point, but it certainly wouldn't be my first, second, or third choice if I'm going to spend that amount of money.
Called 3 times to try and make a reservation and left a message, but no one answered or called me back. Service was very slow when we were sat and menu prices were really high, luckily we had a TravelZoo coupon given as a gift, otherwise I would not eat here. Also, because no one answered the phone we weren't sure where to park and parked in a visitors deck next door and had to pay $14.
Overall the restaurant is pretty good. I highly recommend the fried chicken and Brussels sprouts. My husband got the sea bass and thought it was just ok. We also got the fried green tomatoes, which were nothing special. Service was good. Just didn’t impress me enough to warrant another visit.
Dined here for dinner and breakfast buffet while staying as a hotel guest. Dining room has an odd layout which lacks intimacy and makes it feel like a hotel restaurant rather than a destination restaurant for Atlanta/Buckhead. Service was personable but slow, not sure if this was a personnel or management issue.
Notes on Dinner: Wine list is nice but very short. Biscuits and pickled veggies are excellent as are the small jars for sharing. Butternut squash soup was good but was overwhelmed with bacon bits which affected flavor. Oxtails were disappointing as they were mostly fat and bone with very little meat. Collard greens were delicious.
Notes on Breakfast Buffet: Standard overpriced hotel buffet... typical proteins (sausages, bacon, eggs) as well as cold cuts and cheeses. Grain choices were disappointing - no biscuits? There were cinnamon rolls, but other than that the usual fare of sliced breads, muffins and waffles. At $29 a person I would expect a little more than this from a buffet. Fortunately breakfast was included in the room rate... if it isn't consider upgrading to a club floor room where breakfast is included in the lounge.
Overall, a nice hotel restaurant with good food and above the normal hotel standard... but this isn't supposed to be a normal hotel, right?
We ended up at this restaurant because of the combo of good food and the bourbon list. Chicken was fried to perfection! Bourbon cocktail was just what a girl needed. Greens, sweet potatoes and Mac & cheese were yummy as well. I’ll definitely stop by next time I’m in Atlanta.
Food was excellent, the cocktails were very, very good. The only complaint, and it is super minor, is that I felt the initial acknowledgement from the waiter was a little slower than I would’ve liked. However, once we were acknowledged, the service was impeccable.
Yum! Last minute business dinner for eight on a Wednesday night, booked just an hour ahead of time. Amazing food and great service, our waiter was attentive, informative and made excellent recommendations for our table. Loved being able to order sides to share with everyone. Cocktails were delicious, and good wine selection was available. I would definitely visit again.
Let me start by saying "the food was very good". Had not been there in a while and saw a deal on Travelzoo so decided to give it another try.
First we were seated right next to a woman who was watching a movie on her IPad. Tables are very close so we could definitely hear every word. we asked for another table and we were graciously accommodated.
The meal was a three course deal.
We ordered our appetizer and waited, and waited. When it finally arrived the Crab Cake was delicious. Then we waited and waited and waited for our entree. When my grouper Finally arrived it was very good. It would have been better if it hadn't been sitting so long that the sauce congealed.
Next we waited for dessert. It took so long we ended up getting it to go.
Sat down at 7:15. By 9:25 we had not received our dessert.
Really sad. Food great. Service not very good.
My choice was good but after a few bites, began to taste prefabricated. It was good, but I wouldn’t rave about it to anyone... fried lobster tail and Mac and cheese.
My husband had the short ribs and loved it!
He always orders the right thing!
The desserts were disappointing. The server talked up the desserts as if they were really special. No, they were good, but not really great. My pecan pie was cold and my husbands “12layer red velvet cake was nice but , again, not amazing.
Staff was amazing. I ordered a steak cooked medium and it came out well done. Wait staff was great about bringing it right back and I got a replacement that was closer to medium rare, but it was tasty. Great bourbon selection, obviously. I sat outside and it was lovely. I’d return and recommend it to friends.
Celebrating our daughter's 26th birthday. First of all, our waiter Shawcatt was wonderful. He was very knowledgeable and personable, attentive but not too much. Two of our party had ribeyes. They got all of the sauces and loved each one. Two got the fried chicken meal and thought it was just like mom would make, but maybe better. I got the shrimp and grits, and like everything else, it was delicious. Get the chicken and dumplings appetizer; so good! This was our first time here and will definitely return!
Wonderful homemade food with a southern flavor in an artsy atmosphere. Valet and self parking is available, and the first 4 hours of parking is free if ticket is stamped by hostess. The deviled eggs with fried shrimp appetizer is wonderful. The homemade biscuits with rosemary and cane syrup sweetened butter were fantastic. The very generous collard greens side served in a cast iron skillet was a highlight. These were the best collard greens I've had in a restaurant. The service was very attentive. Highly recommend!
