Southern Art and Bourbon Bar Ratings and Reviews
I wish I came here on a normal day for their menu. I came on Valentine’s Day and their menu for this day was a little disappointing. My husband got the fried hen which he barely ate and our server didn’t even ask why. I got the salmon and it was decent. Nothing special about it. The desserts were lovely. I ordered the “death of chocolate” but they ran out so he ended up giving me two desserts, which was nice.
Overall really good. Probably closer to 4.5/5 than 4/5 but that wasn't an option. Got the fried chicken and that was tasty but thought it was a little dry. The mashed potatoes with chicken gravy was amazing as were the brussel sprouts. Also really enjoyed the cheddar rosemary biscuits with maple butter. Service was also good.
We called the day before to make sure that the Sunday Brunch menu was going to be available and were told it would be. When we arrived, the host was very friendly and the staff as well, but after we were seated, we were told that the only thing available was the buffet. Ok, except that unlike the 29 dollar price listed on the website, the price, we were told, would be 44 dollars. Sorry, not happening. We were going to leave but the host said we could have anything on the brunch menu, and so we stayed and ordered. The food was fine, nothing special though. The eggs benedict was just ok, bland hollandaise sauce and a bit under done eggs. Despite the congenial staff, we probably won't be going back. Nothing special and way, way over priced.
We went on a Sunday evening. We sat at the Bourbon Bar and had the bourbon sangria which was very good. Then we both had the fried chicken dinner. That was probably the best fried chicken we've ever had. Just the right amount of spice and completely juicy on the inside. The brussel sprouts were delicious as well as the mashed potatoes. This is apparently their signature dish, so I would highly recommend.
We were guests of hotel where the restaurant is located. We were seated right away and waiter was very cheerful and attentive the whole night. Fried green tomatoes were delish! I had the carbonara which the chef made vegetarian for me and my husband had it the way it was intended to be prepared. Both pastas were very good! For dessert we had the Red Velvet Cake. The cake was really gummy and tasteless. House Sangria was AMAZING! Decor is not the greatest and the lighting is too bright but overall dinner experience was good.
It was a great experience to celebrate New Year’s Day with a bountiful buffet in a wonderful setting and attentive wait staff! My call-out is to be aware of the time you go. We went in time for breakfast. However, they started to prepare for brunch and closed off the buffet. We and others were not able to continue enjoying the spread.
We were not notified at check-in that the breakfast would end at a certain time nor did the wait staff provide a heads-up. I would have certainly appreciated that piece of information.
Even with that said, our experience was memorable to tempt us back.
I went for the fried chicken. It was tasty and I usually don't eat breast but it was juicy. It wasn't the best I've had and it was a little dark for my taste. The fried green tomatoes were delicious and the tomato jam and goat cheese that accompanied them was a nice twist. The other dish we tried was the shrimp and grits and it was just okay. The sausage or ham they used had a strange taste. It didn't taste like andouille which most restaurants use for this dish. The carrott cake was good but I expected more than two muffin bites for the price. I may visit again.
Had to wait for our 7:30 res. we made a few weeks ago - was told their staff couldn’t keep up with the business.
Was not informed of a special menu or that the regular menu or wine list was unavailable. Service was extremely slow. Food was less than local diner level and way over priced - pre fixe at $40 per person for fried chicken!!
I would absolutely never go back here again and would not recommend this “ hotel” restaurant to anyone.
Also map on Open Table shows it separate from the hotel by 2 blocks.
The Christmas brunch was excellent! There was live music playing seasonal tunes, but at a good level for conversation. The food choices were outstanding and delicious. The staff was A+, friendly yet very professional. The décor and ambiance was perfect for an all-adult Christmas brunch. In particular, the dining crowd was diverse, well-dressed, and great subjects for making up stories about who they were and why they were there. An outstanding experience all the way around!
