The waiter was rude and took forever but the food was good.
Fathers Day dinner ! Everything was great, food and service were exceptional.
We loved the ambience and we were greeted and seated quickly by a friendly hostess. Our server was attentive however it took a very long time for our food to come out once we'd ordered and when it arrived it was only luke warm, as if it had been sitting a while before it reached our table. The brunch dishes we ordered were good, not amazing, but fine. We ordered three different desserts and weren't happy with any of them. Between the five of us we ate the banana cheesecake and the blueberry shortcake but sent the coconut cake back - and were still charged for it even though it wasn't eaten. This was a family get together celebrating my son buying his first home - we very much enjoyed being together but I don't think any of us plan to visit the restaurant again since it's pretty expensive for food that's just ok and dessert not worth having. It's too bad because the location is great and the atmosphere was warm and inviting, just wish the food would have been better.
Had fun with my wife and son. Great service, great location and they put a lot of thought into decorating and making it nice. I felt a little restricted in the menu, there didn’t seem like a lot of light or plates, or gluten-free options.
Had birthday brunch here for 10 people. Service was great, my mimosa was always full, and the food was great
It was not as good as advertised. The portions were small compared to the price. It seems to like when there is a party of kore than 7 and the gratuity is added the service is not good because they know they are getting 20%.
Excellent food and service! We’ll definitely visit again.
Beware! We went on 5/20/19 for my daughters Graduation dinner. I brought a small cake, plates and forks. When I walked in with the cake the waitress told me they charge a $2.75 fee for serving the cake per person. I told her I did not need anyone to serve the cake and that I was not aware of that service charge. It did not matter that I cut the cake and served it myself. I didn’t want my friends to be charged because they didn’t even know I was bringing the cake. My daughter was full and did not eat a piece and I was charged for her. I was very disappointed and will never eat there again. My friends said the same thing.
When I made the reservation I added a comment that it was for my daughters graduation and nobody contacted me to tell me there would be a service fee for me to bring a cake. If I knew that ahead of time we would have eaten somewhere else.
They are taking advantage of customers !
Fabulous all around! &. Anne Marie, the AM Bartender, was wonderful!
Enjoyable experience. Our Server was excellent as was the food.
Cooks could make eggs over medium...gave them 2 chances and couldn't get it right.
The food was good but it took them 25 minutes to bring our food.
Although it was Mother's Day and I expected it to be busy, there seemed to be a real lack of energy with the staff. The hostess seemed completely overwhelmed and not very communicative. There was a slight mix up with our reservation. When completing the reservation online , I chose outdoor seating as a preference but did not realize they would not even ask if we would like first available so we were waiting a long time before we were seated. We had to bring it to an employees attention that we would take whatever was available. We noticed several empty tables which were not being bussed. The food was underwhelming. I live on the other side of town from this restaurant so I don't think I would go out of my way to come here again. Also the acoustics in the building were horrible , it was very difficult to carry on a conversation.
Very busy for Mother's Day. We sat at the bar and had Brunch. Food was delicious and Grey was awesome!!
Always great food and service. A bit high on the price.
Mother’s Day brunch was amazing. Thank you South Kitchen
Our visit was for Mother's Day Brunch. They were overwhelmed by the crowd. Food took over 30 min for breakfast items. My wife ordered the special hash and it was missing 2 components. They offered to remake the dish but it would take 15 additional minutes due to the kitchen being backed up. We opted to just eat what we had. Our server worked extremely hard to make it seem as the meal was not held up. He was on top of everything and you could obviously tell it was the kitchen being overwhelmed.
When we were almost finished another waitress stopped at our table and asked if she could take our coffee condiments dish (small cup with sugar, splenda, etc and small cream dish). We were not finished with our coffee so I stated we were still using and she made the comment that someone who just sat will have to wait.
We have eaten dinner at South numerous times and never had this experience so hopefully this was a one time deal. We will not be going back for Brunch as there are many options for much less $$ in the area.
Service was good, food was excellent. Try the chicken and waffles!
Atmosphere was fun and service was great. Had a really cool selection of drinks and they were really good. Appetizers were very good. The actual entrees weren't that great. Chicken and waffles were pretty dry. Still overall a fun night. I'd return and try a different entree.
Had an amazing experience. Our server was so kind and patient!! We were celebrating a birthday and the environment made the evening so special! We will be returning for future occasions.
South is a great place to gather with friends in a relaxed and trendy environment. The waiters all have ipads so it makes the human error of ordering, very minimal. The outside is super nice as well. I went with a large party and the backyard long table was perfect for the occasion and very private.
It was nice
Ambience and location - excellent
Drinks were good
Food OK, a little pricey
It was my first time eating here and I must say it was awesome. The pulled pork sandwich and Parmesan fries were delicious!
I was really impressed with the outdoor seating area and the customer service. The appetizers were better than my entree. I choose the philly cheese which is one of my all time favorites and even requested jalapeños to be added to spice it up. There was no flavor which left me very disappointed. The truffle fries were also very disappointing. Just was fried with a little bit of Parmesan and for the price I expected more. I will return to Southern Kitchen for the happy hour and appetizers.
It took awhile for food to come out. When it did come we had to return the fries twice because it was not hot. Food was ok. For price of their food portions were small. Our first visit was a better experience. We will probably not return.
Great experience. Would definitely go back again.
Easter brunch was great. My lobster and poached eggs were terrific. Just could have been a bit warmer. The service was outstanding.
We did make a reservation since it was Easter Sunday and were seated immediately. We had appetizers and food we couldn't finish from being stuffed but both appetizers and bottomless mimosas. Waiter was very knowledgeable and helpful. Would definitely go again and partake in the adult coffee selection.
Wonderful soul food trendy dining experience with a great bar!
Overall it was one of the best experience I've had. The food, the drinks, and service was great.
Celebrated my birthday with party of 9 at the last minute on a Friday night. Food was extremely fresh!! Everyone left full and merry.
The food and drinks were awesome. The round table near the front of the restaurant at sunset needs to be moved, not used until after sunset or get some type of shade. We had to hold up our menu in front of our faces until it set. We were told there was no where else to put us but the tables behind sat empty the entire time we were in the restaurant. We will come back because of the excellent food but will be selective in where we sit.
Food and beverage were excellent, as usual. This is the first time I was disappointed with service. Given we've never had that happen before, we'll still be back.
Enjoyed the new menu items. The service was excellent and they have the best happy hour in town.
Catfish Dinner with gouda grits and collard greens is a winner. The $20 price is steep however for this meal. Also a glass of house Chardonnay was $9.50. Yikes!
It was 7 of us for a bday dinner during brunch. I have no complaints, it was great. Our server was nice, everyone was satisfied with their meal. This was my second time coming and I’ll be back
I almost hate to write a awesome review so we have this nice place to go and not so packed! But the food is wonderfully put together and the drinks were perfect. We love bourbon so we tried them all! Sitting outside was just beautiful, looking forward to many more evenings like this. Next, we are going to do Brunch there.
We sat outside. It was beautiful. The place was clean. Ate here for a birthday dinner in the past and really enjoyed it. Ordered the pickled shrimp lettuce wraps. It tasted horrible. Barely came with any shrimp and then some lettuce for 13.00. Was suppose to come with cracklings according to menu but wasn’t given any.
Most reviews looked good but we were very disappointed in the food. Two of us had burgers which were $13 and the beef didn’t even fill the bun. Ordered medium and came out well done with a sour taste to the burger. One person had a pot pie which was very disappointing. It was a bit of sauce and veggies in a small skillet with a few extra dry biscuits on top.. onion rings were pretty good but that was it. Disappointing would be an understatement :(
