South Fork Grille Ratings and Reviews
The restaurant was busy which affected the preparation of the food and the quality of the service. The steaks were not cooked properly—one was overcooked, the other undercooked. We never received any bread. However, the manager did come over and offered complimentary desserts to compensate for the poor performance of the server and the kitchen. Compared to our previous visits, the overall experience this time could have been much better.
Hostesses were rude! At first they did not want to sit us even when I told them I had a reservation for 2 at 6pm. They then made it seem like I said I had a reservation for 6 people and had no tables for that size party when clearly it was me and one other person standing there waiting. Plus the open table reservation did specify my group number. I do enjoy this resturant but they do not sit you without a reservation even if they have empty tables, and when you make a reservation they're rude to you.
Our server was wonderful and very helpful. The food was ok but not as flavorful as we would have liked. I'm not one to use salt on my food and yet both of us felt the food needed a little something. I think it was a little expensive for what we received. I don't think I would return for dinner. I have heard they have a nice Happy Hour so maybe we'll try that next time.
This is my second time at South Fork and I went for a special New Years dinner with a small group. We started with good tasting cocktails, we all order a started and half of the group got theirs and the other half did not, the half that did not were hot starters and after ten minutes they were brought to the table cold. They tasted good but would have preferred them warm and with the other starters so half the table didn’t have to feel like they needed to wait for ours to begin eating. We ordered a second round of drinks to find out they were out of mint to make the mojitos but not the fresh mint that should be muddled but the mint syrup they add in since they are not hand muddled as described. We ordered our meals which were subpar at best and my scallops were over a horrible pasta that had a grainy like warm sauce. My three scallops for almost $40 were small but cooked nicely. My friend who ordered the rib eye asked for a substitution of risotto which they charged extra for because the ribeye did not come with a starch according to the waitress yet when it was served there was potatoes under the ribeye and she got her risotto on another plate and was charged for it, not sure how that is right or fair based on the servers information. One of the part guests got lobster that they described as okay but a weird texture. One person got the stuffed salmo and loved the first bite but said every other bite was way too salty. We were offered a refill on our bread that came back with the small amount of butter it left with. The flourless chocolate cake was the highlight of the meal as well as the $12 martinis. I will not be going back based on the service which is disappointing because the first time I dined there I enjoyed the lobster macaroni so much.
New Years eve dinner was very disappointing overall. Food for two people was cold and the other two lukewarm. Lobster was very difficult to get out of shell, maybe because it was cold, maybe a quality issue. Service was prompt but server was awkward. We had entrees only with a glass of wine each and dinner was $260... pretty high for the experience. There are lots of great reataurants in the area, this is not one of them.
Our first and last experience at South Fork Grill was awful. We started with Lobster Bisque which was served almost warm. After we were done the bread came out. An hour later my steak came barely rare though ordered medium. Two minutes later a "new" steak came out well done; it was extra fatty and could only eat half of it. That was just the food. The restaurant was not busy, the bathroom was disgusting, but was beyond one person destroying it; the garbage was overflowing so it was definitely not attended to for a while. Our meal was prix fixe (fixed price), and when my bill came they tried to charge me $10 more. I am sure other diners did not catch that mistake as it was coded in the register and instead of a new receipt with the correct price they added a $10 comp to the meal. The manager did come over right before our entrees were served (note the hour long break between appetizers and entrees) and offered a free drink; but when asked to come back after the horrible steak he never showed though we were assured he would. I cannot express how extremely disappointed we were, we don't make a scene and only made a few comments but it should have been obvious to staff how horrible of an experience we were having.
Very disappointed with the management on Saturday!
They told diners when they arrived for the early bird specials that they were not going to have
early bird due to the art show (for some reason)!!??
They should have at least informed , by phoning, those who had reservations before 6:00 and inform them of this questionable change in policy for that day.
They did not!
We find this unacceptable and deceptive.
Shame on the South Fork Grill!!
Made a last minute (truly!) reservation after a debacle at another restaurant in the area left us without a spot to celebrate our anniversary. We were greeted warmly by our server, the service was impeccable and the food was excellent (especially the baked Brie app). Lovely atmosphere that felt intimate but not dark. We could easily carry on a conversation, everyone was friendly, and the pricing was reasonable considering the excellent quality. Thanks for saving our anniversary dinner! We’ll be back, with friends!!!
This use to be one of our favorite restaurants. Has been very disappointing this Season!
Service use to be excellent - is now "so-so". Food quality seems to have gone down.
I ordered a dish - only to be told 15 minutes later - they had run out.
Our friends "Chicken Pesto" was so gummed up with a bitter tasting Pesto she could not eat it.
All new wait staff this year is not even close to the quality of past Staff.
Used to love the place but everything was messed up today. Half of the tables were messy. Sent two plates back because they were dirty. Food was fair , waitress was nice but her lack of menu knowledge & service timing was way off. Appetizers were barely served when dinner arrived and one was missing. Filet was not the beautiful piece we had on all previous visits. When asked for a lemon wedge for the water , they were out of them. Skipped dessert.
We go to Southfork as one of our favorite restaurants. However today we went for lunch and it took over two hours and the service was unacceptable and the food was delivered cold. Manager would not come and visit with us and indicate he just got on however he was in the room twice And didn’t come to our table. Nothing was offered for the cold food or the poor service.?
Our first time here won't be our last! The server was great, the service was fast (but not too fast). The location is great. I had the braised short ribs. They were so good that I threatened to never come back if they take them off the menu! My friend had the porkchop, it was very good and well cooked. The prices were reasonable and to us, worth it.
Disappointing experience. As a result of the recent remodel, it feels much more crowded and noisy inside. While food presentation was excellent, the pork chop was difficult to access with all the embellishments. More importantly, the pork was undercooked. We like Coconut Point for a dining venue, but will choose other options in the future.
Mid-week dining for 4 persons. Waitstaff not experienced - didn’t write down orders and consequently got 2 of 4 orders incorrect on appetizer as well as entree and 2 persons served entrees 10 minutes before remaining two. Three of us ordered same pork chop entree and all three were cooked differently - one overcooked, one just right, one meh. Apologized after complaint and comp-ed drinks. Not going back.
We drove up from Naples and met friends from Sanibel to enjoy the Restaurant Week pre-fixe menu. All the food was great - tasty, generous portions, well prepared and nice depth of flavors. The only exception was the sauce on the bread pudding that was gloopy and not silky like it was at First Bite. This was significant since the bread pudding was a factor in us selecting the restaurant. Service was attentive and the waitress was friendly. She was well informed about the menu and gave good recommendations. The main reason for the low rating on ambiance is that we were seated in an area of the restaurant that was uncomfortably cold and we were told that the restaurant has no control over the temperature because it is controlled by the shopping center. Otherwise the ambiance was good but not exceptional. Had the experience been more comfortable temperature-wise, I would have given a Very Good overall rating. Had the sauce on the bread pudding been more consistent I would have given an Outstanding rating.
