The food was only warm. When eggs and pancakes are only warm they lose a lot. Otherwise, everything was great.

Too expensive for what it is. Hard to figure out where to check in since the entrance on Shawmut St (address is 314 Shawmut) is for take out only; you need to check in at the hostess desk at the other entrance on Union Park Street. We stood in the line on Shawmut street for a while before we figured it out, and even then the hostess spot was empty and we had to ask the bartenders for help. Overall, good ambiance but the food is very expensive for very average taste and quality. For example, my partner paid $5 for black coffee. Service was slow (understandable given Saturday brunch). On ordering, I asked for half salad half potatoes, and the server told me that they "almost always" do it half and half and but that she would also explicitly request it that way. When I got my food, it was only salad. Not a big deal, but disappointing given I asked for half and half, the server said that that's how they usually do it, and that she wrote a note to do half and half. My friends who have recently moved to Boston are always talking about how Boston food is bad - overpriced and bland. After living here for two years this is the first place I've been that really fits that description.

We had made a reservation in advance, and was a bit disappointed to be placed downstairs in a crowded section - we had to wait a while to be served. We also were a bit disappointed to find out that we were given different menus by mistake that did not show accurate pricing for the menu items - showed cheaper prices than what we actually had to pay given the recent pricing increases for the late summer menu. Overall the food was delicious as always, but was not impressed by our service.

Overall I was not impressed with my experience. The prices were very expensive and the overall quality of the food was not worth it. The dining room was also very loud and it was difficult to carry on any kind of conversation. On top of that, our server forgot to put in our order so we didn’t receive our food for over an hour. If you’re looking for good brunch in the South End there are a number of other places with better food at more reasonable prices. Go to one of those.

Service was lousy, the worst I have experienced. Had to wait 15-20 minutes after seating for the waiter to stop by. The table next to us had the same experience and they got up and left rather than wait around. Our order was also messed up and they added extra items to our check. Had to chase down the concierge for the check after asking another wait staff 15 minutes earlier. Will not go back.

Haven’t been able to get to Boston since COVID started. I was very happy to get there last night and eat at The Buttery - always one of my favorite restaurants. I’m happy to report that the the standard is as high, if not higher, than pre COVID. Excellent chicken and fabulous burgers - I’d forgotten how good their burgers can be. Also had a very good Pimms as an aperitif.

Our party of 5 ate outside due to Covid concerns and it was very pleasant. Everyone ordered different brunch items and we all enjoyed our meals. The waitstaff was attentive and we never felt rushed. The only issue is the prices of the menu items which seemed high. but not necessarily higher than other similar establishments. We will definitely return.

Wonderful scones and other breads/pastries. However, their brunch is way overpriced for their given portion sizes and food quality. The quality isn't bad, merely mediocre for the price tag (especially since the prices are quite a bit higher at the restaurant than is advertised online!). However, the staff is incredibly friendly and accommodating. 2.5 stars overall.

Good location, nice place, and decent food. However, the staff isn't well trained for the basics. Server who wasn't in uniform didn't introduce himself or talk about the menu. He just came up to us and asked for our order and left before we could order drinks. We ordered appetizers and main course. All of it were brought out at the same time after 30m of waiting. We weren't able to enjoy the appetizers at all having to eat the wam main course before it cooled off. Note, the restaurant wasn't full at all for dinner so staff wasnt busy. I asked the waiter about one of their side dishes and he wasn't sure but didn't want to check with the kitchen first. We had tell him to check. We had to call him over to follow up even though he wasn't busy. He didn't even bother to tell us they already ran out of the side dish we wanted. Our secondary server who bussed our plate and gave us the check was much better but we already had a bad meal experience. Our dining experience could have been so much better had our primary server been trained better.

If given the option, I would give this restaurant a 0 star review. Two weeks ago, I was in town visiting family when everyone decided they'd like to meet up for breakfast. Having eaten at the Buttery before, I suggested we make reservations there because it was our last morning in Boston, and the food at the Buttery had never let me down. I got reservations for 11:45 am, and we were there by 11:30 am. Because we arrived early, we decided to get coffee (4 of them) and have our coffee outside since it was a beautiful day out. The woman who took our coffee order was fine, but the woman who made the coffee was extremely rude and disrespectful. She talked about me and my family to other coworkers and rolled her eyes when I told her my name was never taken for the order. When we were seated, they put us in the very back of the restaurant where the AC wasn't working because the windows and doors were wide open. My sister, who was sweating profusely, asked if the AC could be turned up, but they said that the door needed to stay open for outside service. Nothing was done to help with the cooling of that back room for our entire meal. After about thirty minutes, a server finally walked over and asked if we wanted water or drinks, so he brought us those and an order of fries, but after that one server, no one steady person attended us at our table. About 15 minutes later, a woman came over to take our order. We waited for an hour with no request for additional drinks or apologies for the long wait. I eventually went over and asked if there was an estimate for when the food would be served. In the end, we waited an hour in the heat to get our eggs, had no server asking if they could bring us anything and what's worse, we had to be the ones to get our own water at a nearby water station. All of this being said, I will no longer be patronizing at this business or recommending anyone to potentially have the same awful and embarrassing experience that I did at the South End Buttery.

Not sure what happened to this place but it was a very bad experience here for brunch the other day. Drinks took 30 minutes (and two questions to our server about it). Food came 49 minutes after ordering and was missing the side dish (which never came out, we had it taken off the bill). Additionally it seemed like other tables around us were not being taken care of. I got the impression there were too many parties seated and not enough help (at the bar, in the kitchen, from the waitstaff and the bussers). Unfortunate because we used to be regulars but won’t be returning anytime soon.

1.upon arrival host proceeded to tell us other diners had just taken our table w/o asking anyone. 2. Eventually sat at table and then were overlooked by the waitress for about 10 minutes. She barely apologized and then took our food and drink orders. I asked for a glass of ice for the tepid water. 3. Drinks were fine. No ice came. 4. Finally our food came. Unfortunately they sent out the appetizer w/the meal, it had clearly been sitting on a counter, barely warm. The salad w/salmon was okay for the other diner. The fish and chips I ordered were uneatable. Fries cold, fish barely warm with a bad taste. Still no return fm the waitress. Still no ice for the water. 5. Finally I got the attention of the waitress and let her know what the problems were w/the meal and that I would not be eating it. No real apology. Never were we asked if we needed anymore drinks as we sat w/ empty cocktail glasses. Clearly I will not be revisiting this restaurant or recommending it to anyone I know. There are a lot of choices in this neighborhood and this will not be one of them.
