Everything from food to service was good, but food and especially drinks were overpriced
Saturday lunch, we had to order from Brunch menu. Carmen our server was so sweet and friendly. Food took over an hour to arrive and all we ordered was salad topped with fried chicken. The fried chicken was a very small portion of small nonuniform cut up pieces that were so greasy! Why not chicken tenders or one chicken breast? Would never order again!
Enjoyed the food but service was slow and orders were wrong. But due to it being so slow we didn’t send back the food.
My rating is based on comparison of the Avalon location to the Vinings one. Dining space/ambiance is similar at both with Avalon feeling slightly more casual and Vinings a bit more upscale. Service at Avalon was a bit lacking -rushed, not extremely attentive. A slight disappointment overall, especially since we were celebrating a special occasion.
Such a great experience! We were greeted by the host immediately upon arrival, taken to our table, about 2 minutes later our server came by got our drink order, we ordered the Burrata and Pimento cheese to start with, both were delicious, the Burrata is next level! They were very busy, it was great to see the place booming with energy! Service was flawless, South City Kitchen does a fantastic job of making you feel welcomed and they let you know they are happy you’re there! Service was perfectly harmonious, there was never a lull between courses. These folks are true professionals, who…you can tell take great pride in there craft. Thank you for such a great experience!
I made a reservation for later in the evening but the weather was hot and my kids were hungry. I went to the front reception area 45 minutes before my assigned time and asked the hostess if she would allow us to be seated a little earlier and seeing the kids she seated us right away. Our waiter Felipe was extremely attentive and caring and always offered the best choices. My kids even took notice and said “what a nice waiter he is”. Thank you Felipe! Food was great, ambience was nice and service was even better.
Outstanding service and excellent food. Would definitely go back. I can get noisy at night/if hotel is busy but was great for a work lunch.
Chicken was overcooked, collards tasted terrible,
Love the food and atmosphere! Great for celebrations!
My husband and I went for a date day dinner
Great service and great food equals 40th Brunch success! Always please with the consistency and quality at South City.
We went to South City Kitchen to celebrate my husband’s birthday and it was a great choice! The food was excellent, service was amazing, and we had a wonderful time.
Great food, great service, great ambiance, I will be back!
I have had good meals at South City, but this was not great. Most of our food was way too salty, and the portions seemed much smaller than usual. The fried chicken looked more like a cornish hen!
Very delicious and healthy options. The wine selection is great as well.
Great food and service. It was an anniversary and birthday brunch celebration with four adults and two kids. Everyone enjoyed it.
Great food. Great server.
Stephen did an amazing job serving our table. He was very attentive to our requests. We have some highly sensitive food allergies and he did a wonderful job of taking care of this for us.
I love this restaurant. I don’t think they make anything that is bad, but the fried chicken holds a special place in my heart. The fried brussels sprouts and mashed potatoes are on point too. You won’t go wrong starting with the pimento cheese and fried green tomato appetizers either.
Great atmosphere within hotel. Louder but food service was done well. Connected to avalon shopping area make it a day and finish off with dinner here and drinks at the hotel bar.
Delicious food, wonderful happy service, lovely time. Smart casual kind of place.
Order the Nashville Fried Chicken Sandwich for lunch which arrived plenty hot, however all is was spice fried chicken a bun three sliced pickles and handful of fries with nothing green (sprig of Lettuce) or red (tomato) and when I asked Ketchup I was handed a Chick-Fil-A squeeze sachet, and all for $16 dollars. Should have gone to Chick-Fil-A and saved myself $11 for the same meal with Lettuce and Tomato included. Beautiful restaurant and location, but expected a little more in terms of food and presentation. Disappointing
Zach, our server was awesome! Top notch.
Food was great!
Atmosphere was good. I just wish we didn’t sit so close to the kitchen. Personally, I’m very sensitive to smoke and smells.
Overall, it was a good experience. I will go back but ask for a table away from the kitchen.
Not great table service. Had to get other personnel to help with ordering and paying the bill. I ordered their top of the line steak which I found to be equal to an Outback but for lots more $$$. Wouldn't recommend to a friend.
We celebrated a friend’s birthday at lunch. Great “ladies do lunch” place!
Graduation dinner. Everything was excellent. Our server Tanner was a delight. We felt very well taken care of and the food was delicious.
Fantastic food, especially the King Biscuit! Good environment, even for a small group. Gets busy, so would recommend reservations.
Good service, though they add gratuity and don’t tell you. All of the food was good, but not great. Overpriced in my opinion. Also carefully select your cocktails $22/ drink is absurd!
Decided to celebrate my birthday here. Started off with a couple of drinks (martini and old fashioned). Great drinks, nice pour. Ordered the pan fried chicken livers as an appetizer. They were excellent. On the recommendation of our server I ordered the fried chicken and mashed potatoes, substituting brussell sprouts for the collards. The chicken was way too salty. Should have sent it back.
My wife ordered the trout and had the same level of sal
Horrible experience, and will not be returning. Staff should be friendlier.
This place is a vibe all to itself! We celebrated our silver anniversary with dinner and was not disappointed. Had to ding the collards as not being ALL collards; and the sweet potato pie tasted more like pumpkin (too much nutmeg).
Otherwise it was a joy and our server Steven made the occasion that much more enjoyable!
We chose the South City Kitchen for my Mom’s 76th B-day. We went there pre-Covid and we really enjoyed the service, the food, and the feel of the restaurant. This experience was very different. Service made us feel like we were a problem each time we ordered, there were only two waiters for 20 tables, the waiter even said “I’m sorry but there are only two of us here serving all of these tables”. It was a classic, sorry not sorry response. I felt for him, but at the price we paid for a table of 8 and the fact it was my Mom’s bday, it compelled me to right an honest review when open table asked me to do so. Normally I send the request to Trash. Hopefully they can change things around, because I really liked the restaurant Pre-Covid.
Food was delicious. Service was friendly and gave a true feeling of southern hospitality.
Received a gift certificate for Mother’s Day. Brunch was delicious and the chocolate cake to die for.
We went to South City Kitchen for Sunday brunch and it was excellent. Highly recommend it to anyone that lives in the area or visiting while in town.
Our server was great. The Shrimp and Grits and Fried chicken were both great dishes. We enjoyed our dinner very much.
Was not impressed with the service , Steven our waiter was very rude. Followed us to the door because he didn’t believe that we were staying at the hotel and said the name of the room didn’t match the room number. We had to show him the actual room key. Horrible attitude
Food was okay.
Amazing food, generous portions and kind, attentive service made this a great night. Will be back soon!
