South Branch Ratings and Reviews
Pretty good place for a business lunch. Nice view of the river. Our tomato basil soup lacked basil flavor and was a little rich. My turkey burger, while good, was constructed in such a way that it constantly fell apart. So knife and fork were employed. Overall, not bad and I will probably return.
This was my first time at South Branch. I had reservations for 2 for a business lunch. I have never been so rushed at a restaurant! From the time I arrived to the time I left, we were asked about 12 times if everything was OK, were we ready to sign the bill, did we have any questions, can we get something else for you, etc. We weren't even offered dessert. There was no line at the door so there was no reason for us to be rushed out of the restaurant. By the time I WAS ready to sign the check, I was thoroughly offended. I ordered the shrimp salad special and requested more romaine lettuce ; I didn't complain while I was there since I was already embarrassed; the restaurant was my choice.
Hostes was brusque - informing us multiple times that we were a “no show” bc we were 15 mins late for a 4:15 res. The place wasn’t full and she could have been more gracious/accommodating. Drinks were expensive - and my old fashioned was week. A convenient spot to meet up in the way to the train so I’m sure they’ll be around
Thje food here is great. Service was wonderful. It was my first time dining here and they did not dissapoint. I took a client for a business lunch and we were able to talk without backgroung noise getting in the way. It also has a nice airy atmosphere with tall windows yet still cozy.
My daughter and I went here after an afternoon opera performance. It was definitely a bad choice. It was so loud we could barely converse. Our waiter showed up twice - to take our order and give us our check - otherwise bus staff did the work. No bread? Not sure if that is the restaurant policy or just was forgotten. Food was OK. My daughter's fish was bland, with very little caper sauce. My pasta was interesting - I liked the goat cheese touch. The coffee was a very nice dark roast. No dessert - we couldn't wait to get out of there it was so loud.
I met a cousin I hadn't seen in a decade who was in town for a trade show. Overall an excellent experience. Beautiful patio location overlooking the river. I had the Ahi Tuna Tacos which were good but not great, the only thing the menu is missing is steak entrees. I was a bit surprised by that but the bang bang shrimp was amazing and stole the show. I would definitely visit again, the patio is picturesque perfect.
South Branch is great for client meetings because of how close it is to my office. However I do feel like the waitstaff wants you in and out. I get that the place gets busy so maybe South Branch should not be the place you go to if you want more time with your clients or just with a friend (if dining with a friend).
The service and ambiance was great on the patio by the river. The only disappointing thing was their menu did not match what is posted online - I was hoping for a Caesar salad but they did not have one! The Cobb salad was fine as a substitute. It's a bit pricey, but I would consider coming back for another girls night.
Overall I liked the restaurant, the ambiance and vibe was really fun. The food, however, was hit or miss. The shrimp with sesame seed appetizer was fantastic. The salmon was dry and bland, and the waitress was very kind to offer me whatever I wanted to take the place of the salmon.
I will go back and try some other dishes.
Their outdoor bar and seating was wonderful since we went on a beautiful day. Our server was super friendly. The food came out quicker than I expected which was great for a quick nice meal in the city. Great for dates, lunch, business meeting, etc. Salmon salad was amazing!
Baja fish tacos are amazing! Don't ever change that recipe! Outdoor seating is excellent and festive, but inside is just way too loud at the peak of lunch, so go in the summer! The only issues are that they do not have a Caesar salad, and their veggie burger is not anything like a veggie burger should be, all carbed up and flavorless. Stick with the tacos or the tuna!
