Soul - Modern AZ Cuisine
Life is a banquet to be enjoyed. Soul feeds YOUR soul through fine food, beautiful art, and great music (live music Saturday nights). Whether you're looking for an intimate night out for two or a warm, welcoming environment for a celebrated occasion with a group of family and friends, Soul is here to make sure your experience is perfect and unforgettable!
This weekend my wife and I relished very ounce of our meals; I had flounder and she had lamb chops. As a NJ boy, flounder was always available and always delicious. At Soul Modern Cuisine it was like being back home, the flounder, mashed potatoes, and asparagus were exceptionally well done. My wife craves the lamb chops that Soul has and of course, we both enjoy the small, personal pies made by Chef Sheila.
Most recently we were there for the all you can eat fried chicken. The only complaint is that it was a very beige plate of food. Not the most healthy selection but it hit the spot. It would have been nice to have a salad and maybe a green vegetable to go along rather than mashed potatoes and mixed medley of vegetables. On the flip side, the pies are awesome and I learned a long time ago to reserve my pie when I first get there.
Every time we are in the area we have dinner at Soul. The food is always delicious, the wine selection is very good and the service is extremely friendly and attentive.
We will continue with our tradition and return.
Luved it and wlll return. Neat music and lively crowd
One of the great Scottsdale eateries! Wednesday night chicken meal is a delight.
Our first night in Phoenix and what a wonderful evening. Our meals were delicious. The cauliflower appetizer was incredible. Topping it all off was excellent live soulful music
We are hooked. This is one of the BEST hangouts in Scottsdale. The food is unbelievable and every item on the menu is delicious. The staff is without a doubt the best I have ever come across. The desserts are literally all home made and they sell out fast. Friday nights, Johnny plays the acoustic guitar and is one of the best I have ever heard. WHATEVER YOU DO, KEEP THIS PLACE A SECRET!
Diana was our new server and she was excellent. Very responsive carried on a meaningful conversation and tended to our every need. The service at Soul Modern Cuisine is always good and they make a special point of knowing your likes and dislikes and my wife's wine is always chilled as requested.
My meal surf and turf, blackened shrimp and beef tenderloin was fantastic. I don't know exactly what seasoning they use on the shrimp but they were incredible. My wife loves the lamb at Soul Modern Cafe almost any way they serve it but this week she had lamb chops. I thought for sure she was going to lick the plate as she devoured everything.
We love coming to Soul Modern Cafe, love their food, the ambiance (solo guitarist playing very soothing music) and the service. So will you and the prices are very reasonable.
Always great experience. Our go-to for any meal. Food is delicious and the servers are friendly and efficient.
Pedestrian at best! All of the descriptions of the food makes your mouth water, however, words do not translate to flavor/taste. There is just something missing here; perhaps the carelessness of the presentation or the lack of temperature control! If something is supposed to be hot, serve it that way!
I love this place and I find that we are going here more and more. It's kind of like your "neighborhood bar / restaurant". The staff is very friendly and efficient. The place is warm and inviting and they have ample area for outdoor dining. We started out with, I a cocktail and my wife a nice glass of red wine. My wife ordered the Salmon and she loved it. I ordered the same meal I did the first time I came here, the Mexiloaf. Kind of like meatloaf with a little kick. It was served over mashed potatoes and had some mixed veggies on the side. Unfortunately, we both were too full for any desert. Great place. YOU NEED TO TRY THIS PLACE IF YOU'VE NEVER BEEN THERE.
Soul Cafe never disappoints! The menu is varied and fresh! The staff is always friendly, helpful and delightfully competent! There is indoor and outdoor dining as well as bar drinking and dining. What's not to love?
Always love this place! Fabulous breakfast and now we like it for dinner, too!
The food is consistently great!! We dined there again on Saturday night and the live music was fantastic!!!
We had such a pleasant experience at this restaurant. Our server Eric was so nice and treated us so well. I had the maple glazed salmon and my husband had the maple glazed scallops . Both were extremely delicious. We ended our night with the homemade blueberry pie. The chef came over and introduced herself at the end of our dinner. We will definitely come back again. Thank you for such a great experience.
One of "go to" spots. Consistently superior service and food
EMILY WAS A PLEASANT, KNOWLEDGABLE WAITRESS. ALSO QUITE ENTERTAINING.
WONDERFUL FOOD AND CHOICES. PREFER OUTSIDE.,
Interesting menu. Food was well prepared, and service was excellent.
I ordered a new meal, at least for me, this Friday, Alaskan salmon on a corn cake, with asparagus and wasn't ' too sure if I was going to like it as the corn cake sounded bland. Well, was I surprised, the salmon was great but the corn cake added a wonderful flavor to the meal and I savored every bit of the entree. My wife enjoyed her cobb salad with shrimp and once again we were more than pleased with our dinner the service and the live music. This is a great place to dine and the food is always creative, delicious and reasonably priced. The service cannot be beat and the homemade personal-sized fruit pies are the first things we order so they do not run out of the ones we want before the dinner is over.
Always a great evening! Delicious food, Fawn was our server and great music. We were there last Friday evening, April 5th. Have enjoyed breakfasts there as well! Great job!!
Buttermilk fried chicken is the best on the planet!
Delicious food, great service, sunsets, Saturday night music from 6:30 - 8:30 no extra charge, dancing.
I made a reservation for four of us about one week prior to dinner through the Open Table app. When we arrived, we were seated at a table in the middle of the restaurant directly in front of the live entertainment and in the pathway to the kitchen. That wasn't optimal. One of the staff who assists the servers, saw that the table wasn't to our liking and offered to move us. As he was reseating us, the host saw what was going on and ran over to tell us every table was reserved and we couldn't move. We explained that having made a reservation well in advance we really didn't want to sit directly in front of the musicians. He told us that the music want really that loud. But, if we wanted, he could sit us outside. It was a beautiful evening, so that was fine.
The food was fantastic. We loved every course and every dish. The cocktails were very good, too. We really enjoyed, Emily, our server. She bartends there, as well, so was very helpful both with the drink order and the food order. I would recommend the fried green tomato caprese appetizer and the fried Brussels sprouts, which Emily recommended. Between us we had four different entrees. The portions were generous but not too big. Everything was cooked perfectly and presented well. We shared the butter cake (ah-MA-zing) and key lime pie, also very good, for dessert. We left satisfied and I would go back again. We left through the restaurant and I just have to say I'm so glad we were moved outside because it was very loud inside.
My only disappointment was the interaction with the host who sat us. I felt like we really annoyed him. Perhaps he thought we up and moved all on our own, which wasn't the case. A staff member offered and we accepted.
We were there on Tuesday night. I had Fried Chicken and usually it is outstanding but this time it was inconsistently cooked. One piece was undercooked almost pink in the middle and another piece had one end too hard to cut. And the vegies were so watery, it got all over the chicken and potatoes. So disappointing. Another in our party had scallops - they were good, but he was dismayed that there was so little food compared to my heaping plate. Also, the waiter was smart alecky - some in our party thought it was cute/funny, but I thought it was over the top and on top of that he didn't check much to see what we needed. Definitely a step down from our previous experiences.
This is an excellent restaurant. Our meals were very flavorful . The service as efficient and friendly. Don’t skip desert. The homemade pies ala mode were delicious.
Lovely outdoor patio. Food was unique and very good. Service was amazing. We didn’t know what to expect but we were not disappointed. We will be back! Great food, great service and great atmosphere!
The breakfast(s) are fantastic as are the lunches / brunch on Sundays / dinners and coctails. The ambiance is laid back and the chairs comfortable. TWO patios, music Friday and Saturday nights. The staff is wonderful and friendly. Just don't tell everybody and their mother or we'll never be able to get in for the line!!!
Absolutely a gem. Soft shell crabs to start. Exceptional food service and value
The fried chicken dinner is always great. The tilapia was outstanding. And our server was terrific. All made for a very nice dining experience. My only request would be to offer some better wines and perhaps a 50% off bottles one night a week.
Absolutely loved this place and is so close to
home. Great menu, very diverse. Killer deserts. It’s my new favorite restaurant.
Everything was good but i wish the appetizer was for two people instead of for four or more... We didn't finish the appetizer and we were full for the entree!!!
This place has it all! Wonderful options on the menu, well prepared dishes, generous portions, good prices, too. Our server, while friendly and attentive was not intrusive at all...again just perfect. The live music was fabulous, featuring a great group doing my favorite Motown hits. I didn't want to leave and can't wait to go back.
Thank you! Enjoyed!
Consistently great food and service! Haven't tried breakfast yet, but I know it will be terrific.
best $10 I have ever spent. Wednesday all you can eat boneless buttermilk white meat fried chicken.
Outstanding restaurant - great menu, good food, outstanding ambience and service. Recommend highly!
Had not been to this restaurant for several months, just as good if not better than I remember. Our waiter was an old friend that we got to know from Alma before they closed. We had a good time, I had the mexiloaf and a very good bourbon drink with a piece of spicy bacon in it, delicious.
I had the blackened grouper and cajun shrimp over white rice with tomato sauce......OMG delicious! The martini with blue cheese stuff olives wasn't too shabby either. :-) LOVE this place!
Fried chicken was poor. Not crisp. Asked for gravy on side and came smothered with it. Ok for breakfast but always concerned when too large menu for small restaurant.
