Loved it, great service, delicious food. Nothing is worst than a menu with to many options, for us its about the experience from entry to exit and having a special menu at 5 star level makes it simple and more enjoyable for us.
Soul is a neighborhood go-to for us, and it never fails to deliver on both food and service. This trip I was a bit disappointed in a special of halibut cheeks...they were overlooked and had a stringy texture, though the flavor profile was good. Just a small glitch in a usually stellar experience. It won’t keep me from going back again & again.
Have been to Soul Cafe many times and always have delicious meals. The pizza for 2 on Tuesday was fine, but not as exceptional as most of their other food. It was pizza, so there is only so much that one can do but ti was a bit dry.
Wonderful resturant. It was my fiance and I's first time and we would defiantly return. Food and service were magnificent. The alcoholic beverages were well crafted and delicious. The atmosphere was very welcoming; it invoked a soulful wanted feel. There was a small band playing while we ate; they played soulful R&B tunes which just added to the acceptance of this establishment. 10/10 hands down.
Awesome spot for food any time of the day! The staff is outstanding and Sheila is a very creative chef...it’s our go-to for breakfast, lunch,or dinner!! You can’t go wrong
This was a local spot we decided to try out. We wanted something that wasn’t just the same Southwest/Mexican standard food.
They did not disappoint. We had 3 appetizers that were excellent. 2 of them had jalapeño bacon so they were easy choice. The mains ranged from fish to an amazing pork chop to their Mexloaf. Everything was so good we decided to try dessert. We decided to split one piece of pie between 3 of us and they made a special mini pie for us served hot with vanilla ice cream. The cocktails were all fresh, clean tasting and matched perfectly with the food.
The server Eric was the highlight of the meal. He made solid recommendations. He selected a nice wine. He was friendly and seemed to care about our experience. He really is what took this place over the top.
Word is their breakfast is the best around but I bet their dinner is right up there too.
Overall you can’t miss at this place.
My favorite place in North Scottsdale.
The pie is a must, we had cherry:)
We sat at the bar. The chili dip appetizer was spicy and amazing. The service at the bar was friendly and responsive. It was Saturday night and the live music was enjoyable.
Outstanding in all aspects. GO GO GO! We are regulars and it just keeps getting better, Everything on the menu is outstanding!
Eric was exceptional. Great waiter. He said save room for a piece of pie & I’m glad we did. My husband & I shared a piece of fresh, flakey, full of blueberries pie. My husband said it was the best pie he ever had & I agree. Wow!
The food was delicious. The cauliflower appetizer was a 10. Yum!!! Thanks Pattie We will be back. ;-)
Said this before about Soul-Modern Cuisine: AWESOME! Out of the norm. Everything on the menu is a must try. The deserts are delicious - all home made. Friday nights they have a guitarist (Johnny) who is fantastic. Background music and fabulous food! No, I'm not the owner just a regular that loves the place.
Very Happy with the meal and service, Chef done a great job
The food was so so nothing to come back for. We arrived for happy hour but were not told you need to eat at bar for happy hour drinks. Sangria was not good paid $10 a glass for small glass. All the surrounding restaurants honor happy hour no matter where you sit. Would not recommend also water glasses were dirty.
This weekend my wife and I relished very ounce of our meals; I had flounder and she had lamb chops. As a NJ boy, flounder was always available and always delicious. At Soul Modern Cuisine it was like being back home, the flounder, mashed potatoes, and asparagus were exceptionally well done. My wife craves the lamb chops that Soul has and of course, we both enjoy the small, personal pies made by Chef Sheila.
Excellent food; the menu offers a diverse selection of items that have unique taste with a home-made feel.
Most recently we were there for the all you can eat fried chicken. The only complaint is that it was a very beige plate of food. Not the most healthy selection but it hit the spot. It would have been nice to have a salad and maybe a green vegetable to go along rather than mashed potatoes and mixed medley of vegetables. On the flip side, the pies are awesome and I learned a long time ago to reserve my pie when I first get there.
Every time we are in the area we have dinner at Soul. The food is always delicious, the wine selection is very good and the service is extremely friendly and attentive.
We will continue with our tradition and return.
Luved it and wlll return. Neat music and lively crowd
One of the great Scottsdale eateries! Wednesday night chicken meal is a delight.
Our first night in Phoenix and what a wonderful evening. Our meals were delicious. The cauliflower appetizer was incredible. Topping it all off was excellent live soulful music
We are hooked. This is one of the BEST hangouts in Scottsdale. The food is unbelievable and every item on the menu is delicious. The staff is without a doubt the best I have ever come across. The desserts are literally all home made and they sell out fast. Friday nights, Johnny plays the acoustic guitar and is one of the best I have ever heard. WHATEVER YOU DO, KEEP THIS PLACE A SECRET!
Diana was our new server and she was excellent. Very responsive carried on a meaningful conversation and tended to our every need. The service at Soul Modern Cuisine is always good and they make a special point of knowing your likes and dislikes and my wife's wine is always chilled as requested.
My meal surf and turf, blackened shrimp and beef tenderloin was fantastic. I don't know exactly what seasoning they use on the shrimp but they were incredible. My wife loves the lamb at Soul Modern Cafe almost any way they serve it but this week she had lamb chops. I thought for sure she was going to lick the plate as she devoured everything.
We love coming to Soul Modern Cafe, love their food, the ambiance (solo guitarist playing very soothing music) and the service. So will you and the prices are very reasonable.
Always great experience. Our go-to for any meal. Food is delicious and the servers are friendly and efficient.
Pedestrian at best! All of the descriptions of the food makes your mouth water, however, words do not translate to flavor/taste. There is just something missing here; perhaps the carelessness of the presentation or the lack of temperature control! If something is supposed to be hot, serve it that way!
I love this place and I find that we are going here more and more. It's kind of like your "neighborhood bar / restaurant". The staff is very friendly and efficient. The place is warm and inviting and they have ample area for outdoor dining. We started out with, I a cocktail and my wife a nice glass of red wine. My wife ordered the Salmon and she loved it. I ordered the same meal I did the first time I came here, the Mexiloaf. Kind of like meatloaf with a little kick. It was served over mashed potatoes and had some mixed veggies on the side. Unfortunately, we both were too full for any desert. Great place. YOU NEED TO TRY THIS PLACE IF YOU'VE NEVER BEEN THERE.
Soul Cafe never disappoints! The menu is varied and fresh! The staff is always friendly, helpful and delightfully competent! There is indoor and outdoor dining as well as bar drinking and dining. What's not to love?
Always love this place! Fabulous breakfast and now we like it for dinner, too!
The food is consistently great!! We dined there again on Saturday night and the live music was fantastic!!!
We had such a pleasant experience at this restaurant. Our server Eric was so nice and treated us so well. I had the maple glazed salmon and my husband had the maple glazed scallops . Both were extremely delicious. We ended our night with the homemade blueberry pie. The chef came over and introduced herself at the end of our dinner. We will definitely come back again. Thank you for such a great experience.
One of "go to" spots. Consistently superior service and food
EMILY WAS A PLEASANT, KNOWLEDGABLE WAITRESS. ALSO QUITE ENTERTAINING.
WONDERFUL FOOD AND CHOICES. PREFER OUTSIDE.,
Interesting menu. Food was well prepared, and service was excellent.
I ordered a new meal, at least for me, this Friday, Alaskan salmon on a corn cake, with asparagus and wasn't ' too sure if I was going to like it as the corn cake sounded bland. Well, was I surprised, the salmon was great but the corn cake added a wonderful flavor to the meal and I savored every bit of the entree. My wife enjoyed her cobb salad with shrimp and once again we were more than pleased with our dinner the service and the live music. This is a great place to dine and the food is always creative, delicious and reasonably priced. The service cannot be beat and the homemade personal-sized fruit pies are the first things we order so they do not run out of the ones we want before the dinner is over.
Always a great evening! Delicious food, Fawn was our server and great music. We were there last Friday evening, April 5th. Have enjoyed breakfasts there as well! Great job!!
Buttermilk fried chicken is the best on the planet!
Delicious food, great service, sunsets, Saturday night music from 6:30 - 8:30 no extra charge, dancing.
I made a reservation for four of us about one week prior to dinner through the Open Table app. When we arrived, we were seated at a table in the middle of the restaurant directly in front of the live entertainment and in the pathway to the kitchen. That wasn't optimal. One of the staff who assists the servers, saw that the table wasn't to our liking and offered to move us. As he was reseating us, the host saw what was going on and ran over to tell us every table was reserved and we couldn't move. We explained that having made a reservation well in advance we really didn't want to sit directly in front of the musicians. He told us that the music want really that loud. But, if we wanted, he could sit us outside. It was a beautiful evening, so that was fine.
The food was fantastic. We loved every course and every dish. The cocktails were very good, too. We really enjoyed, Emily, our server. She bartends there, as well, so was very helpful both with the drink order and the food order. I would recommend the fried green tomato caprese appetizer and the fried Brussels sprouts, which Emily recommended. Between us we had four different entrees. The portions were generous but not too big. Everything was cooked perfectly and presented well. We shared the butter cake (ah-MA-zing) and key lime pie, also very good, for dessert. We left satisfied and I would go back again. We left through the restaurant and I just have to say I'm so glad we were moved outside because it was very loud inside.
My only disappointment was the interaction with the host who sat us. I felt like we really annoyed him. Perhaps he thought we up and moved all on our own, which wasn't the case. A staff member offered and we accepted.
This is an excellent restaurant. Our meals were very flavorful . The service as efficient and friendly. Don’t skip desert. The homemade pies ala mode were delicious.
