Middle Eastern
Tapping into the niche that is Middle Eastern cuisine in Melbourne’s dining scene, new restaurant and bar Souk – meaning Arab market or bazaar – takes diners deep into the flavours of Arabia, North Africa and Anatolia in a slick venue down one of Melbourne’s hidden CBD alleyways. Owners Ergun Elmas (Arabesque) and Vlad Kovacevic have embraced Elmas’ Turkish culture, imbuing it with the contemporary playfulness of Melbourne. Located in Bligh Place, Souk is separated into two main areas, featuring a bar downstairs and an easily divisible dining space upstairs, the perfect space for any celebration. Staying true to Middle Eastern style of dining, Souk’s menu is designed to share with a selection of small and medium plates.

The service was poor. It took our drinks so long to get to us and our waitress missed a few times from our order and the food was not enjoyable at all.

Last time I came which was a couple years ago it was downstairs. Had more of a vibe. Louder music was a bit darker and the food was amazing.
Not a fan of how the restaurant is upstairs it’s abit brighter and the food wasn’t that great as I remembered.

Middle East cuisine with a modern twist. Flavours were unique and dishes were not heavy given I was heading to the dance floor after. Love the experience.

Way, way too loud music. Made it impossible to talk with friends.

Everything was really great. My only complaint is when ordering the Soukabab, there was hardly any meat in there. My friend and I unrolled ours just to see where it was.
I highly recommend the lamb spring rolls and Turkish beef dumplings.
Service was impeccable.

We arrived a little late, but the staff were accommodating and happy to see us!
We were seated at a table and immediately given roasted chickpeas with seasoning (an amazing starter). They gave us time to choose drinks, and then food. We ordered heaps of food and shared among us! We ordered the following dishes!
+ shoe string fries w salt and vinegar seasoning - recommend highly, best chips I have ever tasted! Seasoning was on point!

+ charred flatbread w souk special spicy carrot dip - this dip changes regularly but was delicious all the same!

+ spiced lamb spring roll w yogurt dressing - THIS. DRESSING. Delicious and amazing, dipped my chips in it all night!

+ truffle + cheese borek - very rich, but super tasty! Garlic breath, you’ve been warned!

+iceberg lettuce salad - delicious, dill dressing!

+ crispy spiced lamb ribs - crunchy and delicious!

best service ever, order the cranberry mocktail!

Food was amazing, we shared 5 dishes between 3, there was more than enough food. Wine was also excellent. Our waiter was friendly and helpful and explained the dishes perfectly. We will certainly be back.

Was expensive and the food was not impressive at all, didn’t eat barely any of it, even sent back a meal not thinking it was ours. Nice venue and the cocktails were not but wouldn’t recommend or go back

Cool atmosphere, delicious mocktails, food was good quality and tasty but smaller portions. Good for a group, and share different plates.

We had a great night there last Saturday. The staffs were very friendly and courteous. We had to wait a bit long for a few of dishes because it got busier and busier. But in general, the service and food were impeccable. We all loved it and definitely will come back there! Thank you.

The food was amazing. The staff were incredibly helpful. The rum cocktail was great. I recommend this restaurant highly. Although the music is a bit loud, so if this is a problem for you it might not be the place for you.
The cheese and truffle pastry is off the charts.

I had been to souk before and was really unhappy about the change in menu. The 7 course set menu -whilst some dishes were generous in serving size, had quite a few bland dishes like the cauliflower, brussel sprouts, beef dumplings and what felt like raw serves of full broccoli with beans. Much smaller portions of kibbeh and meatballs did not balance the meal. No mention of desert until we asked if there was any being served! So disappointed...
