wonderful place! one of our favorites in Baltimore.
Very nice selection of pasta, fish and meat options.
Black Sea bass deelish. Chef kindly made a special vegan vegetable pasta dish which was superb.
Will definitely be back.
Delicious food. Excellent service. Charming atmosphere where you can talk at a normal level and hear your dinner companion. Bravo!
We have searched all over Baltimore for outstanding Italian cuisine and for this beautiful little restaurant on our pervious visit to the city. Handmade pasta served in delicate sauces are truly a treat. The service is wonderful and the ambiance sets the stage for romantic dinners.
Staff was very accommodating since we had limited time and assisted us in every way to get us to the Opera on time, yet ensuring we had a wonderful dining experience
Beautiful place, great food and service.
This was a pleasant find in Baltimore. Food was ok but we have high standards. Employees were fun.
Had a wonderful dinner after great BSO concert!
Had a wonderful dinner at Sotto Sopra. The service, food and atmosphere were all great. Complimentary prosecco and dessert for our anniversary were much appreciated.
Amazing food small portions but great atmosphere great place for a date
We love Sotto Sopra for its excellent cuisine, lovely decor and quality wait staff. My husband and I dined there this past Saturday evening.
My one concern has to do with feeling rushed. As soon as a plate of food was finished, it was whisked away and the next course served. That is a turn-off and not a desirable practice in a good restaurant. I hope that this criticism is noted and the wait staff asked not to be quite so "efficient".
Our dinner at Sotto Sopra was absolutely delicious--from the handmade pastas to the freshly and expertly prepared entrees. The only reason for my less-than-five-star rating came from the portion sizes: the pastas were amazing but I was left a bit hungry after. Their entrees might be meant to be paired with appetizers and dessert for a thoroughly satiating meal.
Everything was great except 7:30 reservation not seated till after 8:15
Have been coming here for years and waiting to be seated with a reservation is common but not usually as long as this last time.
Did give me a great free glass and a half of red wine for waiting
Food was exceptional
One of my favorite restaurants. I prefer it over Woodberry, it's less pretentious, the cuisine is well doe and creative. The carbonara is a fav.
Have been coming here for over 12 years and have always enjoyed the food and service. Brought friends from Virginia and they said it was one of the most enjoyable meals they've ever had.
Wonderful ambience with large painted murals and mirrors. The place is busy but amazingly good acoustics. The two of us sat next to a table of 8 and had no trouble conversing. The food is always fresh and delicious. We have been for special occasions and just regular gatherings. You can eat modestly or upscale you meal. One of my favs!!
How I wish I lived closer to Sotto Sopro to be able to take advantage of this wonderful gem with great frequency. Williamsburg, Virginia is a bit too far, sadly.
We discovered this while visiting for a few days. Loved it from first sight. The hostesses were warm and accommodating. The decor is sophisticated yet comfortable. The service was excellent and the food was fantastic. I’d seen the pumpkin pillows(ravioli) online and was not disappointed. We took a card so that we can remember the name and come again the next time we stay down near the inner harbor.
Another AMAZING meal at Baltimore's #1 restaurant. Had my team in from all over the East coast to celebrate a successful year. They were blown away by the food, wine, service and atmosphere that Riccardo provides. Thanks as always!
We have traveled to Baltimore for the American Craft Show for last 4 years and look forward to dinner at Sotto Sopra. My wife is Italian and she compares the flavors to Nona’s (grandmother) cooking. Always DELICIOUS. We go to Baltimore for anything...it’s Sotto Sopra.
Sotto Sopra is a classic with fresh ingredients, beautiful surroundings, and wonderful service. I will continue to bring out of town guests to this Mt Vernon gem.
Sotto Sopra is as good as advertised. Went there for a business lunch to discuss historic Charles Street. The 2-course lunch with choice of appetizer & entrée is a real treat. The Arugula Salad, Fried & Escargot Polenta make for great starters. The Risotto & Branzino, Pappardelle & Lavender Salmon highlight some of the marvelous entrée options. The service is always 5-star top-notch. I highly recommend Sotto Sopra for a business lunch or special occasion.
Excellent in every way!
We had a lovely dinner while visiting Baltimore. Our server, Katie, was gracious and attentive. The ambiance was lovely and the food delicious. The hostess, Lindsey, was charming and very helpful with after dinner recommendations in the area. Would definitely recommend.
We enjoyed an absolutely wonderful dinner at Sotto Sopra. Every aspect, from the friendly and professional staff, to the delicious cocktails, to the appetizers and entrees, was perfectly executed.
The carrot soup had layers of flavor, the halibut was cooked just enough to meld into the sauce and vegetable bed. My husband was delighted with the prosciutto appetizer and pasta entree.
We live in DC, but happily plan to return to Baltimore as soon as possible to try more of the menu.
not inexpensive, but well worth the final tab
Everything was great. The only thing, drop the lemon in the calamari.
I love the lunch special, which always has a vegetarian option. The food and service are 5 stars.
The entire experience I had while at Sotto Sopra was phenomenal. We were seated exactly at the time of our reservation, and our table -- despite being in the middle of the restaurant -- was cozy and separate. The service was fantastic, the food was the best I've had in Baltimore, and the ambiance was very romantic and comfortable. It was a great dining experience through and through and I certainly plan on going back for my next special occasion. It is the perfect spot for a romantic dinner or a special occasion.
We have eaten at Sotto Sopra several times and were fairly disappointed in this visit. The service was not very attentive and the food was only ok. I'm a big fan of the black squid ink pasta, but there was hardly any seafood in it, and our water cups were never refilled.
Dined for the first time for a romantic evening and it was perfect....The spaghetti a la chiterra was to die for! The sauteed duck was outstanding. We had reservations so we were seated in a timely fashion. Took us back to Italy for sure!! I would definitely recommend it to anyone looking for a romantic night on the town!
Atmosphere, service and food was outstanding.
I unique building with artwork everywhere.
Only detractor would be the tables were very close, so you were literally sitting one chair away from the next table in some locations. A bit distracting, but everyone ignored the other tables and it seemed to work.
I would definitely go again.
Be sure to make reservations, it is very popular.
4th time here. Food still solid
Prices a bit high for the fare being served but still delivers a great meal after so many years.
Prices were not too high. Food was just okay, I was hoping for something a bit better and the service was kind of slow. My empty bowl sat for about 10 minutes before it got picked up. Could have been the a less experienced crew the night after valentines day. Very cool space with awesome artwork on the walls. I probably wouldn't go back.
My wife and I dined here for Valentine's Day, and had a wonderful evening. The food and service was fantastic, and I was overall very impressed. Usually, expectations are lowered for VDay, as many restaurants are swamped, offer a limited menu, and are overall slogging to get through the night. Not so at Sotta Sopra. It was busy, but they all handled the crowd with professional excellence all around. Wonderful experience!
Our server Patrick was amazing. He was attentive and extremely knowledgeable with the menu. His pairings of wine and courses were spot on. We went to celebrate our 5 year anniversary and he made the occasion even more special.
This was our first visit and we were suitably impressed. The quality of the food was superb, the portion size adequate, but dining area was narrow and loud. The price was on the high side, but not outrageously so given the meal was so good. I would go back.
Friends of ours have raved about Sotto Sopra for a long time and we decided to give it a shot. I am glad we did. We were a few minutes early for our reservation and were immediately sat. Service was fantastic. The food was even better. The decor and atmosphere in the restaurant was very romantic. The price for the evening was what you would expect from a higher end Italian place in the city. We will definitely be back. They also had valet, which was great as it was raining on the evening we went.
Sotto Sopra is our go to authentic Italian food. Great drinks though the bar can be somewhat hectic. Service can be slow but waitstaff are always friendly and even apologetic
Food never disappoints and this consistency is what keeps us coming
We go to Sotto Sopra often. It has wonderful authentic Italian food and is better than most of the restaurants in the Little Italy section of Baltimore. We go out of our way to frequent this restaurant and will continue to do so. I am of Italian heritage and have taken many family members there and they love it.
