Sotto Sopra Ratings and Reviews
The restaurant was great. The food, service, ambiance and the drink options. The only downside and there always is was that the noise level was high, the front door was propped open and it was I. The mid 30’s outside, the big window at the front is very drafty so I was pretty cold the entire time and the front of the restaurant (the host table) is very ackward to the guests coming in and the guests there since people tend to stand in that little area between three tables making it weird to eat while the people are staring.
Lastly, they asked me if it was a special occasion and i told them that it was my wife’s birthday but they never did anything about it. All the other birthdays had a birthday cake with sparklers.
My boyfriend and I couldn't have picked a better spot to celebrate our anniversary! The food alone was outstanding! We ordered the pappardelle al telefono and the sacchetti di zucca con salsiccia, and the pasta was cooked perfectly--that melt-in-your-mouth level of expertise. As a vegetarian, I particularly appreciated the kitchen's willingness to substitute the sausage for mushrooms on the sacchetti. What really impressed us most though was how the restaurant staff went above and beyond to make the evening a special one for us! When we arrived, there were two glasses of prosecco waiting for us at the table, and at the end of the meal, our waiter surprised us with gelato and a giant sparkler. Thank you for a wonderful night, Sotto Sopra, we look forward to celebrating with you in the future!
Excellent service and atmosphere, and even better food! The cioppino was delicious. I have never tasted better lamb chops. Our server suggested a wonderful wine. All in all, it was a delightful dining experience, and I will return the next time I visit Baltimore!
Fabulous restaurant. I take clients and employees every chance i get, as the menu is so rich, the service so good if you get to know your server well and tell them your needs. My gf and i love a quiet, romantic dinner here as well.
My wife & I visited for a pre race Baltimore marathon meal.
Christian was our server. He was courteous, personable, punctual refilling glasses & taking our orders and very professional. The staff alone was professional! The dressing on our salads was tasty. My ribeye was cooked perfect & very flavorful. My wife's fish was moist & flaky with just the right amount of sauce. The pistachio Gelato was heavenly. The overall ambience of the restaurant was relaxing. The music was just the right volume as the crowd of clientel grew so we could hold an audible conversation. The price of our meal was worth the experience. I highly recommend this restaurant!
Two friends getting together for a night at the Hippodrome and having a quiet dinner! The food was absolutely delicious and I can't say enough about the chocolate pistachio Crem Brûlée ... my mouth is still watering. The only complaint I have, I thought the wine was on the expensive side. $12 for a glass of wine is a little much, especially being one of the least expensive on the list. I still would highly recommend for a special night!
Overall delicious food and great menu. Wine would great. Food was hot, presented well.
Could work on service improvement. We had 4 different people serve us, but no one really made a connection, so it felt like everyone was distracted. We got good service but nothing notable. To keep up your reputation as a great place, try to focus the staff on the people. Also, if you open at 5pm, don’t act surprised when guests come in at 5pm.
Sotto Sopra has long been one of my very favorite restaurants, and tonight's meal was no exception. My only disappointment was that I had been salivating anticipating eating their spaghetti carbonara, which sadly was not on the menu. Neither was their caprese salad, which I also adore. But the squash soup was fantastic, and the lamb chops quite good. The wait staff is always exceptional.
Have enjoyed the food and ambience at this gem of a restaurant for several years! We've been away for 10 years and just recently returned to enjoy a beautiful meal and Sotto Sopra did not let us down! Fresh food, great wine list, friendly and competent staff! A must for all Italian lovers!
I usually don't write restaurant reviews but 4 of us had dinner Monday night and it was fabulous. Two of us had frutti di mare ala Chittara (one with the squid ink pasta) and both dishes were great. They should make it a regular item and not a special. The 1.5 pound bronzino was the best my wife has ever had. The restaurant was empty (Monday night?) but the I have not had a bad meal there in the3-4
