Sotto Sopra Ratings and Reviews
We love this busy, happy spot in our favorite part of the city. Pork ossobucco and cioppino were wonderful on a cold winter night. We arrived early so our visit could include some time at the beautifully illuminated bar. I recommend "the sinner," made with redemption rye and served in a chic little coupe. So much fun
This is a casually elegant neighborhood restaurant that makes you feel at home and pampered. The food and service were excellent, and the ambiance beautiful. I took my mother (93) for restaurant week and all the staff looked after her to make sure she was comfortable. She had a great time and loved the food and servers. That's my Mom in the photo!
I just want to say that though I only gave 4 stars - the food was fantastic!!! I took off a star based on the fact the seating was suuuuuuper tight. We were in a middle row seated at two tops that were literally less than a foot apart(between the tables) and the aisles were so tight that people were bumping into both me and my husband the whole dinner. For the price I’d like to not be packed in like sardines. I’m that being said the food was amazing, our waiter was attentive and we will likely be back
Sotto Sophra used to be one of my favorite restaurants in baltimore. I had the pork ossobuco, which is one of my favorite dish. The taste has changed from when i had it last time and the portion size decreased noticeably.. its still good but not as good as when i had it a while ago. (I ordered the dish several times before)
Different dishes were either amazing or just good but not amazing. The mussels were spectacular, while the flatbread was plain and literally on a cracker. The chicken dish was amazing, and my salmon was seasoned well but did not have any flavor or sauce for the potato mash. The desserts were amazing (we got the marscapone cheesecake and apple strudel). I would come here again and try more items.
I went for restaurant week. I had the mussels, gnocchi and creme brulee. All three were excellent. My friend had the polenta, papardelle and tiramisu. All treated really fresh as well. I will definitely come back here. I'm lucky to have restaurant week because it allows me to try places like Sotto Sopra.
Went for restaurant week. The restauant week menu selection was extensive . Great value for your money. The food always is excellent as is the wine list. Wait staff is helpful and friendly. Noise level was higher than normal due to restaurant week. One of our favorite restaurants in Baltimore!
We had dinner during restaurant week. The restaurant was extremely crowded. Despite having reservations we waited 55 minutes to be seated. Food was OK but not as expected given the great reviews. They have a nice wine list at reasonable prices. Service was just fair, they were in a rush as they were extremely busy and short staffed. One of our friends ended up with the food on top of her clothes as the waitress drop the plate while serving. We had to wait another 30 minutes for the replacement meal to arrive. The food was cold. I was told Sotto Sopra doubles the number of seats during restaurant week. It certainly looked like that... I would not recommend Sotto Sopra during restaurant week.
An lovely culinary experience! Food, service & ambience were all 1st class. Only complaint was with the wine list - least expensive bottle was $39 and I believe there was only one of these (reds). There are so many really good wines at reasonable prices today, they should offer some choices in the upper 20s and low 30s. I would love to go back, but I can't imagine dinner without wine and they do not offer any in a reasonable price range.
We had 8:30 reservations for NYE. These reservations were made at the end of November. We arrived a few minutes before 8:30 and were not seated until 9:20. There were plenty of other people waiting for their reservations as well and in such a small space, things were quite cramped. One of the hostesses (long dark hair) seemed so overwhelmed she didn’t offer any consolation for those of us (or anyone else) waiting. We even had to re-check in after we had been there for a while.
Once we were seated our server was wonderful and the food was delicious. The server and the bus boy gave us several complementary items for our long wait, which was nice. Once we were seated, it was near perfection, but the 50 minute wait for our table despite a reservation was very disappointing.
I made reservations here for the night of New Years Eve. I arrived with my date and the place was all but full of other people out enjoying the holiday. We were quickly sat and shortly after greeted by our server who had great knowledge of the menu & specials. We shared the Salmon Tar Tar as an appetizer which was very good. I had the Pan Seared Halibut which was excellent along with a gin cocktail that was tasty. After our meal we split the Chocolate Pistachio Creme Brulet which was maybe my favorite part of the meal. For being a very busy evening, all of our drinks and dishes were served in a very timely manner.
My husband and I visited the restaurant after an event in Baltimore that was near by. We were seated immediately after we checked in for our reservation. We had the calamari and tomato soup for starters which was excellent. Everything we ate was fresh and prepared to perfection. Can’t wait to go back!
