Food was outstanding. Restaurant week menu is extensive and everything was great. It was crowded so seating was a little tight.
The service, cocktails and homemade pasta were all incredible! Always my go to for special occasions or just to grab a great lunch or dinner.
Always delicious and has the best restaurant week menu in the city!
Excellent food, friendly bartender and server. Loved the pork Ossobucho.
We stopped by during restaurant week and the specials were good. I started with the lamb meatballs, but they were cold in the middle. The server was very pleasant and took them right back. I replaced that with a lobster bisque, which was very good. The chiappino was good, but the fish in it was a bit mushy. The shellfish in the chiappino was very good. The deserts were excellent and the service was very good.
Celebrated my and my son’s birthday during restaurant week. Had a wonderful dining experience, from the atmosphere, service, to the delicious food, it was very good! We will definitely be back!
A friend and I came for Restaurant Week. I missed it the last time my group of friends went. It was worth the wait!!! I had the gnocci with Bolognese sauce and the fennel salami and burratta salad. The bolognese is so good, it will make your eyes roll back. There were other interesting things on the RW menu that seemed to have interesting flavors, e.g. the King salmon with honey and lavender...I was so tempted by that.
The wait staff were super attentive and offered great recommendations. It almost seemed like they were excited about the food and cocktails we were ordering. :-)
My only criticism is that there was no changing table in the bathroom. I brought my one-year-old son and had to lay him on top of the trashcan lid that was big enough to hold his head and torso and let me change his diaper.
Food was Great!!!
Great food , atmosphere .. authentic !
A lovely find for a weekday lunch! The ambiance is delightful and the painted fresco like walks a wonderful sight! The cheeses were delectable and the roasted tomato soup a very heartwarming dish for a blustery Winter day. I look forward to returning for their opera nights where you can purchase a 5- course meal for just $65!
I think this is the most attractive restaurant in Baltimore, with its gorgeous art and decor. We've been there often and always leave satisfied. On this occasion it was crowded (with a special Northern Italian chef event in a back dining room) and so service in the main area was a bit frazzled, but still attentive and professional. We shared a beet caprece salad appetizer and my partner had a seafood ciopinno that was heavy on lobster and had a rich and spicy broth. I opted, as I often do, for saltimbocca, which had a bit more provolone than I remembered but was delicious. The mostly-Italian wine list has plenty of options. We chose a Moltepulciano that was lovely.
Every year we come to Tio Pepe’s for paella. Greeted at the door and talked with the chef.
Sotto Sopra treated their customers for a very special dinner form the Bergamo region of Italy. The chef (who is friends with the owner Riccardo) created a fabulous menu of Bergamo regional dishes that were completely wonderful and satisfying. This is only one of the fine events that Riccardo does on behalf of the Mount Vernon community. This was a completely unique and special dining experience!
We went there for a special tasting dinner recently. The service is always excellent but the special menu was a bit disappointing giving everything we had were in a white sauce which made the dinner heavy.
On Wednesday night along with our neighbors, we attended L’Anno di Bergamo Dinner (The Year of Bergamo, Italy) hosted by Riccardo Bosio, owner/chef of Sotto Sopra. Bergamo is Riccardo’s hometown. During 2019 his restaurant will focus on his hometown cuisine of Bergamo with special dinners and cooking classes. So he invited his longtime friend, Chef Gianbattista Oldrati from the 4 star Piajo Hotel located in the Bergamo province of Nembro to visit to kick off 2019.
Upon arrival, we were treated to a glass of Prosecco which set the mood for the evening. We were able to have a chance to visit with Riccardo and to meet Gianbattista and Andrea Vavassori . Derrick, our server, is always at the top of his game and saw to our every need.
Our first course was Polenta’s Schisola. Gianbattista explained that in the past his ancestors used the polenta’s leftovers to make some little balls that were stuffed with stringy cheese. Today, they modernized the recipe and stuffed the polenta with salami and served it with taleggio cream. It was such a delicious and interesting taste.
Our second course was Casonsei de la Bergamasca – ravioli filled with calf meat, fresh salami, sultanas(raisins), lemon peel, grated bread, aromatic herbs and amaretti. It was topped with a sauce of bacon, brown butter, and sage with grated Grana Padano.
Our third course was Bergamasca’s Capu - cabbage rolls stuffed with cotechino (pork), grated bread, grated Grana Padano, parsley and eggs topped with a simple tomato sauce. Oh my, it was so different from what we know as cabbage rolls and fulling satisfying.
Our fourth course was the Torta Donizzetti – a typical Bergamo cake in the shape of a donut prepared with butter, sugar, eggs, flour, candied apricots, candied pineapples and maraschino. Plus an added bonus dessert called “Polenta e Osei”. Wow, what a finish to a totally scrumptious meal.
Our thanks to Riccardo and his staff - who really know how to kick off the New Year!
Outstanding food, outstanding service, and outstanding ambience. Never disappointed.
Great homemade pastas. They offer half portions, so you can try more things!
Good food and service lovely!!
Dining at Sotto Sopra was fabulous in every way
Just a beautiful setting, a sophisticated dining experience, and delicious food. I had the whole branzino, which was covered in a layer of carmelized lemons. Fantastic. We'll return.
I love this restaurant. I always get the same thing squash ravioli. I do wish more items on the menu didn't have mushrooms, but the kitchen tries to be very accommodating.
Outstanding experience, delicious food.
A splendid Italian restaurant in town. Food tasted great. Lovely decoration.
This was the second time that I ate at this restaurant. It was amazing as the first time. The food is creative and interesting. The calamari was light and delicious. I had the branzino which was wonderful and the sauce with it was great. Everything I have eaten there is so wonderful. I can't wait to go again.
Wait staff was so professional and helpful!
I proposed to my girlfriend on 12/25/18. Both managers and workers were amazing. They became family during the planning and the proposal it self. The people who work here love their job and care about each person who enters. Great people, amazing vibe and delicous menu. Soto Sopra is superb🙏
Terrific menu. Delay on getting seated, but wonderful food made it worth it.
One of our most enjoyable Christmas Day dinners for both ambiance and menu options.
Don’t miss the fabulous Octopus Salad, the Whole Bronzino, and the most flavorful Ribeye ever!
My wife and I have eaten at Sotta Sopra on many occasions. The food is always delicious, and the wait staff is always attentive. Quantity is never an issue and I believe the value vs quantity of food is balanced. I have seen many of the same wait staff year over year, which tells me that the management team is strong as well.
Many thanks to the Sotta Sopra staff for sitting us in a quiet, corner spot. My Wife is immuno compromised at the moment and the restaurant staff was aware of this and insured that we had a semi private area to sit it.
What a perfect place any time of year but having Christmas dinner at Soto Sopra was even more special. Everything we ate was wonderful—the duck breast was elegant and cooked to perfection with a light cherry sauce and chanterelle mushrooms; the lavender honey salmon—always tender and light—is always an excellent choice here. We had guests from DC that want to return—one of whom selected the veal and raved, too. Beautiful environment.
The pastas are excellent, the cocktails well-made, and the service is lovely. It'll cost you a pretty penny, but for a special occasion it's definitely worth it.
We had to wait 15 minutes for a table, past time for which we had reserved. The food was average at best. The valet parking was an abomination - the last straw for an evening that was supposed to be special but was not in any way. Restaurants like SS need to have more discipline and not try to accommodate more guests than they are ready to serve. We would not return here.
Excellent as we have always come to expect
Every time my wife and i dine here it is always so on point and delicious. Ricardo's crew is amazing.
Birthday lunch with Boyfriend
Our family was visiting from Nebraska. SS has always been a favorite. Lovely dinner and atmosphere. Waiter was very accommodating for 12 year old's dinner preferences. Thanks for making a nice memory for us!
First time diners. Very busy & we sat at table close to front door. The result was fairly chilly surroundings. Noise level was high enough to have to lean into conversation.
The Montepulciano wine was excellent as was the mussels and warm octopus salad. The bolognese entire was perfect with the right mix of beef, pork and veal. The bronzino was sautéed to a heavy crisp rather than a gentle sauté.
Sparkler & ice cream was a nice extra for a birthday dinner.
Had a great time with my wife it was her birthday. They had flowers for my wife really surprised and please her. Thanks!!
We visited Sotto Sopra before the BSO Holiday Pops matinee. We were seated immediately...had our choice of tables. Our waiter, the only waiter at the time, was very pleasant and attentive. I might add he was also doubling as the bar tender and the host. We ordered a bottle of Montepulciano d'Abruzzo. It was okay but had a bite that didn't leave. We've had smoother reds in Little Italy that cost less. Sue had the Caesar Salad and loved it. I had fried calamari. It was served with a nice marinara that had the right kick. With the calamari were carrot sticks and thinly sliced grilled lemon. They were an unexpected but nice touch. Unfortunately the calamari was soggy. Sue had the grilled salmon panino. The salmon was medium rare. Sue should have requested her desire. However, our waiter didn't ask how she would like her salmon. The fries that came with her salmon were delicious. I had the risotto of the day which was risotto with a rose sauce. I added shrimp. The risotto was not creamy and the sauce was bland. If I was a betting man, I'd bet that the shrimp were farm raised. The coffee was good. After we left we decided we would not drive from Westminster just to dine at Sotto Sopra. However, we would try it again if we were in the area.
