Sotola Bar & Grill
Great service, food was excellent and the location is so fun!
Excellent flavors in the Sotola burger; best tasting burger. Enjoyed our meal very much.
Table did not look like it had been wiped down. And during times we are in that should never be questionable
Good outdoor dining
Very cute spot on the water with very yummy staples and great cocktails. Highly recommend!
We were disappointed to be sitting in their new front patio area which was on a busy/noisy street corner and was in the direct sun with no patio umbrellas. With that being said, we had a very friendly waitress who was fairly attentive (although one meal came with fries instead of the side salad requested), and we all really enjoyed our meals. We’d return.
The service was excellent from the minute you check in at the front desk. Very nice and friendly. Jasmine our server was excellent with recommendations and was really nice and took great care of us. She even had some recommendations on activities for the area which always helps. The food was very good. The fried calamari was good but having the cauliflower and shishito peepers with it was even better. The clams are excellent. The sauce was really tasty and the preparation of the fresh clams
Was eight on. The Bavette steak sandwich was really good along with the rock fish tacos! Even our daughters buttered pasta was really good since the pasta was a fresh pasta and not a dried one. The view and location is nice too with it overlooking the beach area. Definitely a place we will come back to when we are in the area again!
Enjoyed the relaxed atmosphere and the menu based in the simplicity of great ingredients
I'm sorry that I forgot our server's name, but she made the anniversary celebration fantastic.
It was awesome - great food, great service, great view and great time ...
Great staff and great food. Beautiful patio with great views.
We were visiting from out of town during the COVID Health Order when dining was finally loosing up and allowing indoor and outdoor dining. They were “requiring” masks (but we saw them allow a couple inside without masks and then the couple decided to go elsewhere). All the tables were spaced apart. The food was excellent! We asked to piece together a meal (fish of the day with whatever potato they had and their mixed veggies). Our server said that he would see if they could accommodate it, because sometimes they don’t allow substitutions. Thankfully they allowed it and it was amazing! Everything was cooked perfectly and our waiter, Will, was so friendly and accommodating. We will definitely be back the next time we are in town!
It was lovely outside on the porch. Our waitress was so friendly and greatly attentive. The clams were excellent though chicken wings not quite tender and the mushroom soup could have had more flavor.
I ordered a delicious salad and cocktail, however the menu is a bit too small. Its a great hidden gem, but just needs a larger menu.
I guess reservations during corona virus don’t mean a thing to this restaurant. We made a reservation early in the evening but it didn’t matter. They were taking people off the street and had no organization to the seating. Didn’t feel like a safe environment during these times. Also the lady seating us was rude when I mentioned that we made a reservation and asked for seat outside with a view. She said “well this is all we have!” with a rude tone after offering us a seat inside away from the window. We ended up leaving. Horrible service and definitely not safe or worth the risk.
What a treat to sit and take in that view!
Wonderful experience. Happened to go the last night they were open because of the Corona Virus so there was already a lack of a crowd. Everyone working there was absolutely great! The food was great and service was excellent. Had sent an email the previous night to verify hours and if they would be open, responded in an appropriate amount of time and even sent an updated hours email later.
A last-minute reservation and a perfect quiet dinner out of the way. Very quiet and softly lit made for a lovely romantic setting. The food was good, and we valued the use of local products.
Great location and local flare.
Food is great at reasonable price.
Staff is very friendly.
Service was terrible. Didn't get a waiter for 30 minutes, then didn't come back to get our drink orders. Waited another 20 minutes for drinks, never told us specials . When we ordered dinner had to wait another 30 minutes. When we mentioned that we werent happy tried to blame the kitchen!! Never did come back to pick up the check, we finally pooled our cash so we could finally leave.
This restaurant had amazing drinks. Our waiter Brooklyn was amazing & attentive. The appetizer list could be expanded. All in all this is a great restaurant for a date night or fun night out in capitola.
If you’re going to put a menu online, don’t wait a month to update it
The cod and salmon were incredible! Loved our cocktails too! The service was perfect. Will be back for dinner...often!!
We had a wonderful experience. Amazing food and great service. We highly recommend this restaurant.
Wonderfully prepared food ... we had the roasted chicken and the special of the day (salmon). Fresh vegetables cooked perfectly and sauces were flavorful. We will visit again when in Capitola.
We arrived at the restaurant at 8:25 PM for our 8:30 PM reservation. The door was locked, but the restaurant was extremely crowded. The hostess saw us trying to get in and mouth the words “we’re closed“ to us. I waved her over to the door and explained that we have an 8:30 PM reservation and that their sign says they don’t close until 9 PM. She said that they had had to close the restaurant at 8 PM that night because they ran out of everything on the menu. I asked why they would not have called to inform customers with reservations after 8 PM that they closed early (I figured since they call to confirm reservations, they could also call to cancel them), and she just shrugged and said “we are just too busy to be calling customers“. She didn’t even say she was sorry or suggest any other restaurants we might try. She abruptly close the door in our faces and went on her way. She was extremely rude. This was a holiday weekend and it’s pretty unbelievable to me that the restaurant would not have planned better knowing how crowded the area gets on holiday weekends. I’ve heard good things about their food, but unfortunately, we won’t be going back to this place. There are too many other good restaurants in the area that will treat their customers better.
Service was really slow and poor. We ordered bread and it wasn’t cut up. We ordered an appetizer and it came after the main course. They didn’t have at least 5 items on the menu. Our boys were not asked if they wanted another drink and we ran out of water.
We sat outside with a heater overheard. The view was great and the food was well prepared. A definite keeper.
It was terrible:
- Service was slow
- Grilled focaccia was just a hunk of bread with some olives
- I ordered chicken which they ran out of but didn't bother telling me until they served my companion her meal
Seeing some spotty reviews, I was very pleased that we had a wonderful dinner. Great waiter, great view along with refreshing the ocean breeze, wonderful coctails and wine, and very good food. What's not to like?
Calamari was a bit greasy. I had the beyond meat burger which I liked very much, my partner had indifferent halibut. It’s crowded, and noisy. Servers were very nice, but there were long spaces when they were busy elsewhere.
Was able to get a table at the last minute during the 14th annual capitola car show. Staff were attentive, the food was phenomenal. Delicious drinks and yummy food. Certainly a repeat destination for me. I appreciate when all comes together well in all areas. Comfortable, great view of the ocean in capitola village.
Great atmosphere!! Yummy seafood!! Cocktails were delicious!!
Fabulous place to eat in Capitola...great spot, great views, food is quite good.
Only complaint is, once summertime hits the village, parking can be tough.
Great food and awesome location and service!
The food is great here, probably the best on the Esplanade. I like the addition of the Aperol cocktails. I wish they would bring back the barbacoa grilled cheese. It was the best!
This was our third time at Sotola. It was Saturday night and the restaurant was very busy. The location and view are nice and the food was very good. The service was poor. We had a reservation and waited 40 minutes for a table. We specifically requested to not be seated outside, but that is where we ended up. We waited in the bar and it took 20 minutes for our drink to be served. We were observing the young lady bartender who was doing an amazing job, but there should have been at least 2 bartenders. She even had to stop and take some food orders at tables in the bar. On the other hand, once we were seated, the dinner service improved tremendously. We will probably go back, but will only go mid week in the winter when it is not so busy.
