Very nice new sushi restaurant on South Lamar
Excellent sushi. Quality on par with Uchi
Perfect happy hour menu
The sashimi and sushi were all uniquely spiced and fantastic. We had oysters and beef too. Delicious.
The restaurant was only half full so it was quiet and you could hold a nice intimate conversation without shouting. We highly enjoyed the food and ambiance.
Too expensive, not adequate value.
I went to Soto with my girlfriend to celebrate our anniversary. We couldn’t have had a better experience. The food was exceptional (literally the best meal of my life) and the service was the same. Attentive and knowledgeable staff, a relaxing and unaffected atmosphere and some masterful and exceedingly kind chefs made for one of the best nights out we’ve ever had together. The food is on the expensive side but you get what you pay for. Try the Wagyu, if you can!
Most of the dishes were solid, but price was excessive ($140 for 2 ppl with drinks). Would've been upset but for the quality of the food...the uni was surprisingly good :)
Sushi was fresh and very tasteful the entire night! Service was also great they only knock us that one bartender made drink a lot different then the other but that didn’t affect the mea at all!
Absolutely amazing experience at Soto-South! Sushi was perfection and the presentation was top notch. Very innovative twists on traditional flavors. The service was impeccable and the waitstaff was incredibly knowledgeable. Highly recommend!
Food was amazing!! Such a great dinner, service was amazing and great wine and sake. We will definitely be back!
It was outstanding similar experience to Uchi and similar prices too.
Just order All the dishes with Salmon -- Everyone is absolutely Delicious !
Great ideas on food and japanese modern cuisine and creative flavors
Great culinary experience.
Absolutely Outstanding as always -- and there are some new additions to the menu that are spectacular -- The Seared Sake Toro is Amazing and the Brussels Sprouts with goat cheese and walnuts are Incredible
Food is on par with Uchiko
LOVE this place. This is my kind of sushi bar. Fresh and amazing nigiri flown in from Japan. Great service and ambiance.
My boyfriend and I came here for a date night with high hopes for great sushi. We left with much to be desired. Our waiter was okay, he had the menu memorized but didn’t seem to love anything in particular and his recommendations were ordinary. The portions of nagiri and sashimi were under portioned and over decorative is the only way I can describe it. Out of the 7 different pieces we ordered we like one and asked the waiter what it was so we could order another round but he brought us the wrong one. He knew and siding try to fix it. The edamame “sorbet”?? Was tasteless baby food. The small $30 risotto tasted like sour rice a Roni flavoring. Our bill was $184 dollars with just two glasses of wine. We left hungry and enjoyed the food at the drafthouse next door more than our meal. Truly a disappointment as we wanted to love this place and it became a $300 date night as we ate dinner at the movies post what was essentially appetizers at Soto. We eat sushi in Austin often and this was hipster overpriced sushi.
Everything was delicious and great quality. We were here for the weekend and it did not disappoint!
Everything was amazing! Love this place.
This is the best sushi restaurant in Austin and I love Uchi, but this is better
We went there for our anniversary. It was a fantastic meal with great service. We appreciated the sushi-counter seating for our omakase. Being able to talk to the sushi chef to provide your feedback and communicate directly to the chef led to our evening being one of a kind.
The food here is delicious. The service pleasant and professional. A very nice high-end dining experience.
Had a wonderful time with my boyfriend, loved how attentive amd joyful our waiter was. Can't wait to come again!
Very good Sushi
This was our first visit to Soto and it was fantastic. We will certainly be back. We actually wanted to come here because we saw they had Hitachino Nest’s Yuzu Lager, not because we had heard much about their sushi. We were blown away but how good everything was. The quality and freshness of the fish was by far the best we have experienced in Austin.
Amazing food. One of the better meals I’ve had in Austin. It won’t be cheap but it will be worth it
Had the Omakase. Chef Andy’s preparation of 18 courses was outstanding. Each dish better than the previous. Truly one of the greatest Omakase meals of all time
The food and service was amazing! That being said, approaching further into the evening our omakase meal which I felt needed a more calm environment ended up getting overwhelmed with large loud parties. It really took away from the meal and wait times drastically changed from frequent assistance to nearly none for stretches of time. I still scored 5 stars because I had an amazing meal and our waiters were awesome, but if the room fills up, get ready for your food descriptions to be screamed to you. It was just loud.
I love this spot. It makes me feel like I am eating like the Japanese would but with a contemporary twist. The food is always fresh, amazing and innovative. Most fish is flown in from Japan. Staff is attentive and very knowledgeable. High quality (like Uchi) without the wait, reservation required, or noise. Great Happy Hour. Highly recommend.
The Chef’s choice was amazing. The specials were delicious and unique. Great atmosphere and valet was a great option.
I wasn’t sure if I wanted to try Soto after reading the reviews. The reviews were very inconsistent. We decided to try it because we were bored with RA, Uchi, Sway and the others. Bottom line, best vegan roll I’ve ever had in my life. The chef made it off the menu and it was fantastic. The other non-vegan roles were just average and nothing special. In fact the carnivores liked my vegan roll so much we orders a second one and they left their rolls unfinished. Our server, Katie was fantastic. The atmosphere was very nice. The main reason we will never go back is the small portions and high prices. The prices would be fine if the portions were normal. The rolls were very thin and not substantial. Our martinis were so small that we laughed when they arrived. I don’t even know where you buy such a small glass. We are no strangers to find dining and the Austin restaurant scene. Because of the tiny cocktails and the small food portions for the price, we all agreed that we would not go back. The only exception to that is if I was craving a vegan roll and I could talk someone into going with me. I think restaurant owners need to give up on the whole “small plate” qimick. Small plates are great if done properly. The purpose of the small plate is so you can order several items and taste different things. The restaurants however are using small plates as a way to make extra money. They’re charging what would normally be the price for an entire entree. I hope this review helps!
If you are starving do not go there...portion size is not worth the price.
We enjoyed a wonderful dinner - picked out 9 different dishes and found some great tastes!
Try the Uni Pasta, it's amazing!!!
Absolutely wonderful! We had much debate about whether it beat out uchi and uchiko...and the answer was yes!
The service was perfect! The food was creative and delicious. I would highly recommend you go for a date, a birthday or girl's night out.
We requested the 18-course meal customized by chef Andy and had the most amazing experience!! There wasn’t a single plate we didn’t love!! Andy is so cool and nice too!! A MUST TRY.
We all did the chef's tasting, and each of the dishes were good, but the unanimous opinion of the table was that nothing was spectacular. Considering the bill was $500 for three of us (not including drinks or tip), we expected great. The place was also dead and the service was just so-so. Overall, we just expected more for the price.
Incredible food. Omakase was top notch
