Incredible sushi. Incredible service.
I go out to Soto once a week and it never fails. Tables are always open (but shouldn’t) and the quality of sushi is beyond superior. Chef Andy is incredible and his manager Daryl is so nice and friendly and the wait staff are knowledgeable and service minded. My fiancé and I bring people here all the time and they love it. I’ll never stop eating here.
We loved the food but the service was terrible and it was so loud we couldn’t have a normal conversation
Excellent sushi and service. Very well done for the price. Definitely will be back.
Great experience! Tasty dishes, extensive sake list, highly recommend.
Chef Andy’s omakase will make a man (or woman) feel like he’s gone to heaven 18 separate times.
Exceeded expectations, amazing service and unique dishes.
Outstanding everything. Easily beats other more well known Sushi establishments.
Fish quality was great , wine and liquor selection was awesome. What made our experience was the manager Daryl! He made us feel special for coming in, we will definitely be back !
We love Soto! It’s our favorite sushi spot and date night place. The food is always excellent as well as the service!
Another wonderful meal at Soto South! Very flavorful and fresh, everything was delicious! And half the price of Uchiko one of our favorite places, this is just as good!
Great Service, Creative Food, Beautiful Interiors. We frequent Soto every other week. Their staff are knowledgeable about food and beverage. It is a joy to come in, sit down and relax.
My girlfriend and I went here for a date night and we were blown away. At the risk of over-exaggeration, Soto on South Lamar is phenomenal. The ambiance is laid back and intimate -- perfect for any occasion. The physical layout of the restaurant is spacious and inviting without being overwhelming. The wait staff is fantastic. Max took excellent care of us and was available to answer any questions we had about the menu. And Darrell, the manager, made us feel especially welcome on our first visit.
With all of this in mind, the food and drinks were incredible! We started off with the edamame (we loved the truffle, but will likely try the spicy one next time) and the Shima Uni, then switched over to the hamachi yellowtail which was our favorite. And we topped it all off with green tea tiramisu. Definitely one of the best meals of my life. Let me be perfectly clear: Soto on South Lamar has established the new gold standard for any aspiring sushi restaurants in Austin, Texas and I would absolutely recommend it to everyone.
We loved sitting at the Sushi Bar w/ Chef Andy and our server Jennifer.
The specials were Amazing, great service and most of all superb food.
Truly a fantastic spot. Chef Andy was wonderful and the food was amazing. Would recommend it to anyone!
Always a great meal with Chef Andy! The staff was nothing but amazing, and will come back!
Best quality of fish in town. Great service, special place.
My husband bit into shards of glass in his first course of the pumpkin purée. The first bite, he almost swallowed the glass, pulled it out thinking it was a fish bone, but it was a thin glass shard. His next bite was a large chunk of glass. The manager gave us a shot and apologized. But for a $500 dinner, totally unacceptable.
Absolutely love dining at Soto. Not only was the sushi delicious, the fish was extremely fresh and the staff were extremely nice and knowledgeable. We would highly recommend Soto.
I visit Austin often, but usually head to Uchi for sushi. Saw Sotu-South in a few reviews and gave it a try. Sat at the counter and had a magnificent omikase experience with Executive Chef Andy and his Ichiban. Each course built on the previous flavors and the freshness was excellent. Our server made excellent wine selections that really enhanced the experience. Finished the night sampling the best Japanese whisky selection I have seen anywhere. World Class experience befitting what is now one of my favorite sushi restaurants in the US.
The food is fantastic! They made Mother’s Day delightful.
Excellent, fresh maki. Great service and atmosphere
We love SOTO. Uni pasta is a MUST! Wonderful experience
Refreshing experience, great sushi, awesome service and chef Andy is attentive and engaging.
If you can’t get the omakase this time, make sure to get the sashimi platter. We came in tonight with a little bit of hesitancy but that didn’t last long! Think Sushi Yasuda mixed with some morimoto in a relaxed and intimate setting/experience. Make sure to eat at the sushi counter!!
Can’t wait to be back
Excellent service with Max. Felt very welcomed and taken care of during the entire dinner. Great atmosphere.
The fish is mind blowing delicious. The creations are fantastic. Worth the price and experience. Service has been outstanding every time we go and food never disappoints. Highly recommend.
Arrived at 7:00 on time for our reservation. Our food selections were from sushi menu and specials menu, including a few rolls and several sashimi selections. The best part of out experience was the quality of the sushi, which was quite good. The Japanese Toro and Hokkaido Uni were marvelous.
Unfortunately the majority of our selections took more than 2 hours to arrive, which is ridiculous. The restaurant is obviously struggling with how to function effectively, and will lose business unless major corrections are instituted. I would pass next time.
Really incredible food and while it was expensive they made us feel like princesses! The manager got us a free cheesecake for my sister's birthday even after we had already closed out. Every recommendation they made was incredible and they really tried to figure out the things we would like before making suggestions.
Date night! Perfect for 2
My first experience eating sushi ever! I’ve been saving myself for this moment and it was SO worth it. Every dish I got at Soto blew me away. It was so fresh and so flavorful and I got to sit right in front of the chefs and watch them create it... I seriously can’t wait to go back!
The staff were so receptive and accommodating. It was our first date and it went amazingly.
Food: We ordered appetizer and a full roll of sushi and the presentation of the dishes were phenomenal. The flavors were well blended with every bite.
Atmosphere: A well lit environment was a great way to set the mood for a date. The noise level was just right to have a conversation flourish organically.
Staff:(what up Daryl!) The staff were well accommodating and attentive to anything we needed. The manager came up to us and introduced himself and the head chief so we knew that the people who were going to be serving us. I’ve been to other restaurant and spent well over the amount I did here and nothing like that has happened before. Pretty neat! Oh and shout out to my waitress Mel.
Date: I have no idea how I got so lucky. Smart, beautiful, and driven(she’s pretty amazing). The whole time I was like that guy in hangover when he had the formula symbols going around his head trying to figure out how not to fumble this great opportunity. Luckily enough by that time my body started to process the sake and by the end of it all she happily agreed that we should go on a second date. Stay tuned for next weeks episode.
Hands Down, one of the best meals i have had in a long time.
We were in Austin for business and looking for quality sushi. We agreed on Soto South after i was unable to book it during my last trip. We had the Omakase with Sake selections. The food was amazing.
The presentation was impeccable. The staff and chef were incredible with service and knowledge. The absolute ONLY mistake that we made was not to sit at the sushi bar with the master himself.
Next time i will not make that same mistake again. Absolutely rivaled restaurants in New York, Los Angeles, San Francisco and even Tokyo for me. You must book here.
Executive Chef Andy Chen's flavor range was incredible.
18 courses were not enough, my friend and I were both hungry after the Omakase. The sushi rice feels not moisture enough, it's a bit dried and hard. Foie Gras is excellent, A5 wagyu beef is outstanding as well.
The pieces and appetizers are amazing. The rolls are okay but not anything special.
I've been here several times and each time I try something new and get to experience new flavors. There is a small snafu with the Crackling Salmon, A piece of it fell into the coffee beans and basically ruined this beautiful dish.
What an incredible lunch - each tiny plate was truly wonderful. These were the kind of bites you take that are followed by a pause to savor the enjoyment. Making our already great meal even better, the manager went out of his way several times to make sure we had a really good experience for our special occasion. With this combination of food and service, this will be at the top of our list for our next special occasion.
Allergy sufferers beware. I have a true mushroom allergy and ordered a roll on the menu that contained mushroom though the ingredient was not listed on the menu. I wrote an email to the manager to let them know that menu transparency is important...heard back quickly from the Cedar Park manager but nothing yet from the manager at this location. So...though I had an amazing dinner (the fish is extremely fresh and well prepared) with a lovely server...my night ended with a tight throat and upper body rash and a ton of Benedryl to stay out of the ER. Not my idea of a fun Thursday night.
A tad too expensive
This place was fantastic and one of the few places I have ever been where I took pictures of my food. A wonderful experience!
We really enjoyed the meal. Truly fantastic service, they were kind to our 2 yr old, and the sushi, specials and sake were excellent. My only complaint is that we spent $400+. I guess we went a bit overboard for a meal for 2.5 people. We don’t go out much. No regrets.
