Best sushi place in town. Fresh sushi ingredients coupled with professional sushi chefs and
Unfortunately and surprisingly disappointing. We have been here several times in the past and have always enjoyed exceptional meals. Tonight was incredibly disappointing on all fronts, wait, service, food. This was NOT the special sushi restaurant we have grown to love.
Not sure if we will return on a weekend night again.
What an incredible meal! Every single thing we had, was so tasty! I honestly can recommend everything we had and it was a quarter of the menu! Our waitress was wonderful and ensured every step of our meal was perfect!
Soto has provided us superior culinary experiences and excellent service. Chef Andy and the staff are welcoming and well versed in their craft. Thank you Soto!
Delicious but expensive.
Freshest nigiri and sashimi in town. Slowly dissolves in your mouth as flavors react on your taste buds. Presentation superb, dishware nicely choreographed with nigiri/sashimi.
The best sushi second only to Japan! Recommend ordering omakase with chef Andy.
One of the best sushi places in Austin! Love the salmon tacos.
3 most important things at a restaurant are service, quality of food, and ambience. I feel that Soto South Lamar delivered on all 3 when my girlfriend and I visited there this past Saturday night. We sat at the sushi counter and was given a very professional and delectable experience throughout by one of the sushi chefs as well as the owner.
Some of the best sushi I’ve had in Austin.
Thoughtful dishes beautifully prepared & served.
Food was outstanding! Every dish was beautifully executed. I'm still thinking about the crispy sushi rice dish and would come back for that alone. Staff seemed a little overwhelmed by NYE. Had to wait about 15 minutes to be sat even with a reservation. Wish the sake list included more choices vs $60+/bottles (they did have 3 choices for 'small format' sake though). It was also fairly noisy, overall ambiance was a little cold, no music. I'll definitely be back to take advantage of their happy hour and give them another try outside of a holiday.
Best sushi in Austin! Our server and bartender, Sam, recommended several items that we probably wouldn't have ordered, but they were DELICIOUS!! It is great having such a knowledgable server and such fabulous food to follow up!! We will be back!!
Family flew in from East Coast for a return visit to all time favorite Soto South -- Every dish from start to finish was absolutely perfect -- fresh and delicious and very creative as always!
Delicious food, very attending and friendly staff . Restaurant setting could be better
We love Soto! The truffle sushi and potato chip nigiri are our favorites. Food presentation is unique and adds to the dining experience. The food is always fantastic. The waitstaff is knowledgeable and friendly. The ambiance is a bit sterile but the food more than makes up for it. They have free valet and ample free parking in adjacent parking garages
Sit at the sushi bar if available and see if Chef Andy is there. He has provided us, on several occasions, his take on so many excellent cuts of fish. The service, presentation, flavor, and atmosphere are just fantastic. Thank you very much Soto!
Food was mediocre, and service was terrible. Won’t be back again.
The perfect special night out! Every detail was perfection and I felt more like we had taken a trip to japan than just a dinner! Pair this dinner with the Saxon pub (right next door!) and you will have an incredibly memorable Austin evening! Thank you Soto - South for such a special experience!
I had a reservation at 7:30 for my daughter's 20th birthday and we didn't get seated until 8pm. I was told no manager was working and offer a round of drinks for the wait. I was with 2 minors and asked that we get food instead of drinks. The waiter responded that they can make "virgin" drinks. We ate at another sushi restaurant on Dec 1st (on S Lamar) 2-weeks before Soto -the price was the same for a party of 3, but the service and quality were not. If Soto was not as expensive I would try it again, but for the price I prefer to go to a restaurant that will set us when we arrive, isn't that why you make reservations?
Had a reservation for 7:45, got seated at 8:20. Service was slow. Seemed like they were slammed but did not have a great grasp on how to handle a crowd. Food was good.
We sat at the sushi bar and had some of the best sushi we've ever had, even when compared with some other, very famous sushi restaurants in the US.
Take the sushi chef's recommendations and take advantage of the incredible happy hour. We're planning to return for omakase in the near future.
Excelente lugar y comida espectacular
Loved this experience! We had the omakase and some cocktails, and loved all of it! Cannot wait to come back to Austin and visit Soto for another amazing meal. This was simply perfect.
Had a delicious meal here, and the waiter was outstanding, providing great recommendations, even going so far as taking our budget for dinner and ordering for us. It was like omakase without the price tag. It was an outstanding meal and I can’t wait to eat there again.
As long-time fans of Soto in North Austin, my husband and I were very excited to try out Andy's new restaurant--Soto- South. It blew us away. Absolutely our favorite restaurant in Austin, and we are sushi snobs. Chef Andy is creative and meticulous. We strongly recommend the omakase!
We love your place! Every time we dine we experience amazing taste of pure fresh fish, as well as fantastic service 🍣 🔝👌🏻! We can’t wait to come back for more 🙏🏼😊
I’m willing to pay for good sushi. But nigiri items were drowned in various sauces and wildly overpriced. Staff constantly pushing most expensive items on me. Felt like I was constantly being up sold.
There’s potential here...but you can’t operate a Japanese oriented restaurant just down the street from Uchi, target the same price point, and serve anything that’s not as good or better. I’d give it one more try at dinner service (I went for lunch) to see if anything changes. Maybe just an off day? Let’s hope so.
The food isn’t bad, but $9 for a single piece of basic nigiri sushi is absurd in Austin. Uchi
Pricey but very high quality sushi and other goodies. Some fish is flown in fresh from Japan, and emphasis is on seasonal ingredients. White truffle happens to be in season now ... yes, that was one reason my meal was pricey! Truffle butter brought simple edamame beans to a whole new level. The foie gras wasn't sushi but it was like a religious experience in my mouth. The sushi itself was excellent, very fresh, and seasoned precisely by the chef with the correct amount of wasabi, soy, or whatever seems most appropriate. And the matcha tiramisu was a delicious riff on this old favorite dessert, charmingly served in its own little wooden box.
My favorite place for Sushi in Austin!! I absolutely love this restaurant!! Would and do recommend it to all my friends!
A bit pricy, have had better
Soto has the best quality of sushi in Austin! Chef Andy has a very friendly personality and a huge passion to deliver only the best!! Every dish is nicely presented and worthy of a photo to share!
Some of the best Sushi I have ever eaten. Highest recommendation!
This was probably the worst sushi we have ever had. Everything tasted fishy and not fresh. We had a reservation for 7pm and waiting 30 min before they even sat us. Overall not a good experience. Definitely won’t be going back.
The food was amazing!! We had several amazing dishes but the Happy Hour Tuna with Truffles and Truffle Risotto really stood out. The wagu steak on the hot stones was pretty amazing too
They have delicious sushi and I LOVE the uni pasta so very much!
We really love this place. The staff are excellent and the food is always incredible.
