The food was great but the restaurant smelled like bathrooms. From the moment we walked in, we noticed the smell. I believe it’s the smell of products they use to clean.

Always a pleasure and more than a meal—an experience! We had an incredible time tasting around the menu to introduce our friend to Soto. She said it was the best meal she’s ever had, and this rave carries weight from my major-foodie friend! Some highlights were toro toast, madai crudo, chili hamachi, truffle tuna, lobster tempura, truffle risotto with O-Toro, and ribs. Always with Kirin Ichiban…

We made a reservation for 630 and we’re told that we would have to wait 30 minutes upon arrival. We were sat in the back of the restaurant, which was very cold due to an open door and smell like the bathroom. Our service was great provided by Damien. The kitchen did not bring out. Our eggplant. Roll in the food came out, sporadically and unorganized. Once again, our service was fantastic everything else was not.

I have dined at SOTO many times before and the food is always wonderful. I will dine there again. The only issue I had with this visit was that we had a reservation at 6pm but did not get seated until close to 6:45. I am not sure if they over booked or they had sat people without reservations first but it seemed odd that you would make a reservation and still have to wait for 45min for a table

I went on Valentine’s Day and the food was great as well as our server Kylie W! Kylie was great, super helpful, and incredibly kind. The seating was a bit tight though and the noise was louder than expected, but besides that the service and food was incredible!!

I think this place is fantastic. The only thing I questioned was the total cost. In the end I go to a lot of Sushi restaurants all across the globe, perhaps 3/week in different cities so I have a different vantage point. It think for what you get this place was about 20% too expensive - but otherwise fantastic in every way - from the amazing food to the outstanding service. Great job!

Well, this time we even selected some happy hour choices, and they were great! The nigiri/sushi is always tasty and so freshly made, it smells like the sea in my mind. The sea bass soup and tempura appetizers are eye catching, the rolls are innovative and we are going to take out an ad in the Statesman praising the truffle risotto. Just kidding, no one reads the Statesman anymore. Too sad. We do not ever order full entrees. It seems gauche to stuff yourself with quantity in the face of this sublime array of flavors. In addition to the unparalleled tastes, we like 2 things about Soto. 1) No one judges you. Have your soup at the end and chug your soy sauce, they just want you to enjoy the experience. 2) I made one mistake. When we ordered the tuna nigiri we asked for the lower fat choice. (We already had the O Toro with the risotto, talk about decadent.) Big mistake, I think the fat is what gives this particular food its bliss, so I will go in reverse order next time...

Visiting Austin from Dallas, reserved Soto for Christmas Eve because we couldn’t find any other sushi restaurants open on that night. Had no expectations, especially because it sits inconspicuously in a strip mall. Oh boy, were we in for a treat and didn’t know it. Every dish we had was exquisite. 3 of us agreed that it was the best sushi we have had, and we have had some good sushi. Most of the fish was so tender it could be cut with a chopstick. As a word of caution, the food is not cheap, and the dishes are not large. So we wound up with a very large bill, but well worth it. It compares with some of the multi course dinners we’ve had at high-end European restaurants. Very memorable.

The only reason I rated Soto less than perfect was because we had to wait 30 minutes past our reservation for a table. Multiple parties came in and were sat ahead of us. But once we were at the table our waiter was awesome, gave us great suggestions and everything was delicious and well paced. Will definitely be back, lots of unique combinations and fresh flavors.
