We went there twice and we all loved it. The food was amazing and Maso the winter was so nice and good service. This is our favorite restaurant for sure. Will go back often.
The wagyu beef was the bomb. My boys loved it and I think we have spoiled my boys too much😂😂😂
This is truly a hidden gem. You hear that a lot. But for someone who has lived all over the world and eaten everywhere (I’m not boasting) this place blew me away! When I made the reservation the first time I went I saw that it was family run by a Japanese family. Kitchen, sushi bar and front of the house all run by the family. Then I did more research and realized they are only 1 of 3 restaurants in Austin that import their fresh fish from Japan weekly. You may be surprised to find out that the other 2 places are Uchi and Uchiko. Yet this little, strip mall bound restaurant away from al things “cool” in Austin is serving only the freshest of Japanese fish!
Then what blew us away again was the cocktail menu. All home created concoctions that literally would fit in at any trendy bar in downtown Austin. The sour named after the name of a city in Japan that at this moment eludes me was a highlight. Plus an amazing assortment of top notch sakes for any sake lover to enjoy. The real deal stuff.
Then the Soto specialties... try the uni shooter and you will not be disappointed. After the amazing shot it comes with a tiny type of Japanese peach (about the size of an olive) that’s sweetness balanced out the brine and umami of the uni and oyster.
So try any of the fish obviously... nigiri or sashimi style. But venture outside of just that and try some of the chefs creations. The truffle Otoro being a delight!
Lastly the service. Both times we have gone we had a waiter named Chris. Not only is he knowledgeable and clearly well trained. But just gets how to be fun and talkative without ever making you feel burdened over dinner. His timing and feel for your pace and meal is impeccable.
So... I don’t write reviews often. But Soto deserve it. If you’re looking for an amazingly authentic sushi/Japanese experience without any of the pretentiousness you find at some “other” sushi spots in Austin then Soto is for you!
Very good food & service. We would definitely come back
My husband and I enjoyed Soto very much. The fish was fresh, the Wagyu was tender. The risotto dish was surprisingly our favorite. I saw that because who knew you could eat delicious risotto in a sushi restaurant?!? I have an will recommend this restaurant to friends.
Service and food was outstanding! Thank you!
Such a great dining experience with a combination of high quality delicious food. Was shocked when it was next to a party city when we arrived, and was pleasantly surprised at how great it was keeping in mind the location. Waiter was fabulous.
The food was outstanding as well as the service! We love Soto!
Soto is one of our favorite sushi places in Austin. The fish is always incredibly fresh, service great. The chef's selections are always incredible. Highly recommend!
The best sushi you’ll ever find!
Food was interesting and well thought out. Not an everyday kind of sushi place. The dishes were creative and enjoyable. Service was excellent. Ambiance was modern, romantic and comfortable. Great experience
Always great food a regular for us
Busy for COVID sat in bar area
Service not great on this trip
But food was outstanding
The fire salmon was great on presentation and even better on flavor! I love this place.
Food is always great!!! Service was a little slow at the beginning but improved throughout the evening.
Great place for specialty and classic rolls. Best appetizers!
Good food and great service
Soto is amazing... quite ambiance, great food and great service!
Chris the bartender is also outstanding.
Love the great service, the friendly atmosphere and the amazing food.
Thank-you Chef Andy!
Amazing! Amazing! Amazing! Amazing! Amazing! Amazing!
The service, food and drinks were all amazing. The staff was great! I love this place.
Soto never disappoints. Best sushi in the Cedar Park area. Not inexpensive, but you’re getting the freshest and most creative stuff here. Lunch is a bit more affordable if you are just looking for a quality meal.
Soto is the best sushi in Austin!
Great place! Lovely sushi and customer service .
Fabulous food. Great quality fish.
Good service. We’ll be back.
Food was amazing and service was excellent! Will definitely be going back and telling our friends about the wonderful experience.
Love the sushi selection! We drove 60 miles to have lunch here! It was the best! We have been coming here for a couple years now. We love it.
Great sampler for the Salmon lunch special. Excellent service!
My husband and I came here for a date night this past weekend and we loved it!
This place is definitely a bit pricier, but the quality of the food and the overall dining experience was worth it. Our waiter was incredibly attentive and helpful. The food was so delicious and the portions aren't too heavy. We even had room for dessert (we got the tiramisu which was amazing!). I would definitely recommend this restaurant! We will be back 😊👍
A nice quiet spot for lunch. Food was great. The server was attentive but not overbearing.
First dining experience out since COVID and the slow reopening of restaurants. This place knocked it out of the park. We felt safe and had an amazing experience. Chose the Brussels and Shumai to start. Followed by the Chefs 10 piece nigiri, the Land and Sea Roll (that Waygu was insane) and the Crunchy Salmon Roll and the Teriyaki chicken. Everything was fresh, artistically designed and melted in our mouth. We ended with the matcha tiramisu and the beer infused cheese cake. I was so impressed by the staff - Mgr was great and checked in on us. We’ll be back and so happy there is a North sushi place that rivals some places across the River!
Perfect meal. Will be back
We had been wanting sushi and to eat in the restaurant. Soto was open, using very safe practices and the food was wonderful. I have to cut carbs and they had some excellent choices for me. Look forward to returning!
Best sushi in town. Fresh ingredients always, great ambiance, great service! My only negative is that they dont have one closer to us. We live in East Austin, so it is a 30min drive, but TOTALLY WORTH IT!!
I just moved to Austin and wanted to treat my mom to a nice dinner on her last night in town. We both love sushi and agree that this was one of the absolute best sushi dining experiences of our life! Our server Chris was informative and recommended some very incredible dishes, especially the salmon sashimi, smoked and slightly cooked table side! I just moved from LA and this is on par with any establishment you would find there!
Soto has some of the very best quality sushi in the city. Thoughtful combination of flavors, good sake list, and a very comfortable dining room.
Soto has good service and really excellent food. The Brussel sprouts were delicious. Everything very fresh. Unfortunately the pandemic is affecting business and I hope the business picks up soon.
They recently redid the menu and while I miss some of my old favorites there are some great new additions. This is one of my favorite sushi place is ever
Pretty good Japanese restaurant.
Sushi is good, and other appetizers are also very nice.
Soto always brings there A Game with presentation, quality and service! We have never been disappointed and will always return. Great ambiance, wine and diversity!
Soto is hands down the best sushi in town. From the moment you walk in, you will experience great customer service and outstanding food. For those who like cocktails, you are in for a good surprise. Their sake options are outstanding, especially the demon slayer. We have been dining here for 7 years and will continue for years to come. Chef Andy and his team are awesome.
Best Sushi in Austin!! I tell anyone who can read this go here.
