Sophie's Bistro
We want Sophie's to be a place where one could have a good, hearty meal (comfort food), simple and unpretentious, at a fair price. Our goal is to produce an atmosphere where people can come for lunch, a full dinner, a late snack, a glass of wine or a big cup of coffee and feel comfortable and at home. Our menu is diverse enough for everyone, yet simple enough so the average person will not get overwhelmed with numerous menu choices and complications. Our basic premise is to provide quality food and good service at a fair price in an unpretentious atmosphere. The décor is modeled after classic French Bistros. French country antiques, large open shuttered windows, dark woods, soft pastel colors and walls covered with family pictures make Sophie's an intimate cozy environment

Family friendly environment, nice place, great service. Food was delicious! I love it
Always a treat to dine at Sophie's!
We always enjoy an authentic French Bistro meal, and chat with the owner, Peter.
it's a nice local establishment. the owner is always present and very attentive to customers
Great food and atmosphere. A real hidden gem. Go try it!
A treasure. From the country pate to the mussel specials, the food is a gastronomic treat.
It was “Mussels Festival week” and we had not been here in a while and it was excellent as always. Our Mussel courses were well prepared and delicious. The pommes frites with aioli on the side were a wonderful accompaniment. Our waitress was helpful, friendly and very good.
My wife and I said we need to come back more often. It is a real gem of a restaurant.
Part of an eating club. Sophie’s was our choice for this evening. Just great!!!!
Nice place !!
At first one waiter was in shorts during the dinner hour which I felt was inappropriate for this place. He got off his shift and changed clothes, at which time he put on long pants.
Food was good, I had ribeye which tasted a little like it had been in the freezer too long.
Service is always great and the food is terrific
It’s a comfortable place to go for fantastic food and the atmosphere is pleasant
Mussel Fest is always tasty. Many flavor options. Good place for a nice glass (or 2)of wine
This was our first time at Sophie's Bistro. Birthday celebration. The atmosphere was nice and the place was lively. The food was very good as well. Our server, Eric, was attentive and personable. We will go back.
Mussels were delicious. The staff is always friendly and welcoming
We were traveling ... came very highly recommended. We thoroughly enjoyed it
my wife Diane and I enjoyed sophies mussel fest. fried
brie, onion soup, fisherman's mussels, Mexican mussels
swine desserts and coffees were excellent
Not the best location, definitely off the beaten path. The exterior does not match interior decor. Food was good, service was great. My only criticism is that food came out entirely too quick and too little time between bread and each course served.
Sat in small room off of main dining. Very noisy. It doesn’t seem like a big issue but we love their warmed bread served before the meal. Didn’t happen this night and it didn’t taste the same!
First time there—but we are looking forward to next time. Delicious food with many choices and specials, cordial staff, and it wasn’t noisy despite a full restaurant.
What a great place! The food was authentic and delicious. The wine list is very reasonable. And the service was excellent too.
We’ll be back without a doubt.
What a sleeper from outside. We had a fantastic lunch! The restaurant is charming, the food wonderful and the service excellent. Now we want to have dinner there and enjoy the bar as well as the food.
Always love this place. Great ambiance, excellent food , great service!
We were seated quickly. The service was impeccable and the food was delicious.
Lovely place. Great service. Delicious French cuisine. One of my favorite places.
Im going to say yes here because the food wasnt bad. We were there on a fixed menu night for valentines day so i would like to evaluate based on their regular menu. But overall we had an average experience. The food was good but not great which is typically what you expect from nights like these. But being my first time there, i would like to try their regular menu.
Everything was perfect, as always. The same staff has been here for the 16 years I've been dining here, it speaks volumes about the kind of place it is. The food is wonderful, the service is exceptional, and the ambiance is just right, and they are always consistent. The owner has visited my table to say, "hello" at every meal I've had here. This is, without compare, my favorite restaurant ever.
We had a great time. We went for Valentine's day. My husband got a call from work and we unfortunately had to leave early. The waitress was so understanding packing up our dinner and desert and even asking if I would like a cup of coffee for him to go. The food is always outstanding.
Did not like the Prefix menu. Did not provide good value.
Very good authentic French cuisine!
Cute little place. French onion soup was amazing!
Yes, of course!
Everything was excellent. Need reservation
Go out of your way or stop in if you're close, to this perfectly executed French bistro!
Great food, good value. Acoustics are not good, although it has a nice semi-lively vibe. Service was good, although we felt a bit rushed. I think it was the waitress more so than the policy of the restaurant.
Unexpectedly authentic French restaurant 10 minutes away from Rutgers College Ave...Everything we had was delicious. Hidden gem.
One of our favorites for great food (and wine), friendly service, cozy atmosphere and a fair price.
Love the food, small and cozy place but, with lots of people it gets VERY loud. I recommend the food and I will talk to the owner next time! Our server was excellent too.
Excellent. Amazing food and excellent service
wonderful food, enthusiastic waitperson, attention from owner
Always love Sophie's! From a wonderful neighborhood place to somewhere to celebrate. Food is excellent, service friendly, and atmosphere warmly French. Love this place!
