We are hosting A Bourbon Tasting Dinner May 16 , 2019
Mexican Once de Mayo Dinner 2019, 3 course, RESERVATION ONLY
Sontuosa means sumptuous! Ernesto Guzman is bringing flavors from Mexico, Italy, France and America to the Main Line
We have had two outstanding meals here, one inside and one outside on the patio. The food is excellent and the service very personable. A great value also as a BYOB. We will be back!
Delightful, intimate neighborhood Mediterranean with some unusual choices ('Aubergine', a pasta-free, layering of eggplant and ground lamb with a light tomato sauce, hints of cinnamon, pesto etc. is scrumptious as is the flour-less but not heavy chocolate cake). Many excellent gluten-free choices, even the Caesar salad.
Our second visit - and again, a wonderful dining experience. I love it that the owners are so present & attentive, checking on us periodically. The wait staff are courteous & attentive without hovering. My only complaint would be the $5 charge per bottle corkage fee.
Great little gem. We split a salad and ordered two of the pizzas, everything was yummy. Will definitely go back.
Our first experience at Sontuosa was very rewarding. We were greeted warmly and were seated at a nice table in the back. Our server, Violeta, was pleasant and attentive. The owner was also very attentive and kind. They were ably supported by rest of the staff, most notably, Caitlin.
We had the special appetizer, the house made pork tamale, which was hardy and comforting. The soup of the day, Tortilla Tomatillo, was delicately Spicy and savory.
Our entrees were the Ossa Buco and the Chicken Picatta. The Ossa was an excellent pork shank tender and hardy on a bed of risotto. The Chicken was exquisitely marinated and cooked to perfection.
We finished with their excellent coffee and shared two desserts- Apple pie a la mode and a Rich chocolate brownie a la mode. Both were a delicious warm contrast to the rich vanilla ice cream.
We were pleasantly satiated and went home feeling good about our new find.
Chris, we are blown away at your in-depth review and it does our hearts so good that you and your wife connected with what we strive to deliver to our guests! Thank you for taking the time to review us and we look forward to seeing you both again!
Eating here will not disappoint! The food, the service, the convenience are all exceptional
Pam, Thank you for taking the time to write a great review and connecting with what we are trying to offer our community!
Food is excellent as usual!!
Thank you, Leslie, it means a lot to us that you took the time to write a great review!
This neighborhood BYOB is our favorite place for casual dining with great food. The staff is attentive and friendly and the atmosphere is cozy and intimate. The owners could not be more attentive to service; we always feel welcomed!
Although a very quiet night at the restaurant the food, service and ambiance were all excellent. We shared a salad, pizza and pasta - all delicious.
My only criticism is charging corkage fee for wine. However, a minor criticism for a lovely dinner.
I really liked the calamari, the shrimp special and the lamb chops. I really liked the flair of spice in our 3 meals. Went well with my Syrah wine blend. My wife on the other hand, does not like spicy foods and was not a big fan.
We had a very enjoyable dinner at Sontuosa. It is a small place and a bit noisy. The front of the restaurant has high tops and is very casual. The main dining room is a little more formal. The wait staff was friendly. The menu is very diverse. They have pizzas for $12 and high-end dishes for $30. We had a salad, the calamari, and the pasta of the day (rigatoni with chicken ragu). Our bill was $59, so not bad for the Main Line. Our food was very good and the other dishes coming out of the kitchen looked very well prepared. The place was packed and I think they get a lot of regulars. The owner comes around and talks to the diners. He seemed genuinely interested in our experience. I would give it a try.
This review of Sontuosa is because I was forced to sit at a hightop in the hallway of the restaurant by the kitchen. I made a reservation at a "standard table" on open table (hightops were available also but I chose standard seating). When I arrived, the owner (I think) said that open table is always messed up and he changes the # of tables and, again, it is open table's fault...but he does not have any standard tables. The only choice is to sit at a hightop in the hallway. Every customer of the restaurant walks between the table and the kitchen counter (about two feet) and every plate of food is picked up by a waitress in that hallway. (Table 1 pasta. Ding. Pizza and calamari. Ding.) The hallway only has two-person hightops. Since I have never had problems with "open table" messing up a reservation, I suspect that either (1) the owner doesn't know how to use the system, or (2) the owner intentionally says that more hightops are available than the real #. I would never book a hightop, but the ploy is that he gets you in the building and at 7 pm on a Saturday night, it is too late to go anywhere else. If you are a party of two, don't take the risk. The hallway by the kitchen is noisy -- and you get a view of the man washing dishes.
Everyone loved their meals. The shrimp with chimichurri, the salmon, and the lamb with romanesco sauce were exceptional. My only criticism is that BYOB's should NOT have corkage fees. If a customer brings their own wine to a place that offers wine, fine; but for a place the advertises "bring your own," it's bad manners to charge people for doing what's encouraged.
Sontuosa BYOB has an Italian menu that goes far beyond pasta. There are excellent offerings of fish, veal and meat. The side dishes are also excellent.
Delicious food, good service.
Always an excellent experience. Well managed and creative wonderful food.
We had fabulous dinner at Sontuosa! Food was delicious and the service was outstanding! Will definitely recommend to friends!
Yes, really love this place. it has become our go to place for dinner out and we bring friends as often as possible. Great food, great warmth and hospitality, great value and easy to park!
Great food, great service, warm and fun atmosphere.
Thanks, Martin, these words are exactly what we are striving to accomplish!
Fun night (owners so friendly!!) and very good food! Pizza was great!! Loved the ambiance and feel of the place! We’ll definitely be back!
Thank you so much for your support and kind words!
The branzino was the fish special and it was delicious! The price wasn't listed but definitely higher than other entrees. It was worth whatever the cost but it helps when the server offers the price and not make the customer awkwardly ask the price. I also understand when a place has a liquor license, they often charge a corking fee when you bring your own wine. However when a restaurant proudly advertises BYOB and then charges a $5 corking fee for screw top bottle, you feel a little taken advantage. Overall I liked this restaurant and will be back for special occasions.
We appreciate your review of us. We will instruct the servers to announce the entree fees which are $26-$45. Daily fresh catch is always $32. so it runs in the middle, it should have been offered without asking, I apologize for that. We address our fee as a Convenience Fee for providing stemware, coolers , recycling, etc . We don't generate any revenue on beverages, we don't believe we should filter the costs into our menu because it seems unfair to those that don't indulge to pay for others
Dinner with friends was good. My "bronzino" was the thinnest I've ever seen, but other food was great.
A bit pricey for a neighborhood restaurant and the corkage fee is always a bit of "is this really necessary?"
Thank you for taking your time to write a review, we appreciate your views. In regards to a small filet I must say that I didn't see it or I would have addressed it with the kitchen had I known at the time. In a spot that's prime and loads of free parking our overhead is a big nut, we try our best to keep reasonable menu prices without sacrificing high quality ingredients. We also consider a Convenience Fee reasonable to provide stemware, recycle plus occasional emergency visits for accidents.
Everything was outstanding! Unique menu, great decor, fantastic food, wonderful service. Can't wait to go back!
Wow, Thanks, Tom! We are trying so hard to give every guest a rating like your experience!
I would have loved to give this restaurant more stars, but our experience was that the kitchen could not keep up with the customers. We waited over 30 minutes AFTER finishing our apps and the delivery of the entree. At one point, the hostess, unsolicited by us, told us that our entries were being plated now and would be out soon...then it was an additional 12 minutes before we received our entrees. It was a long night...
Yes, we had a cook leave 15 minutes before service and two floor gals were out with fevers...Timing was off, no doubt. I did the best I could to address guests so that you didn't feel ignored, I went on information that the kitchen gave me. I apologize and can only hope you try us again.
Food was very good but we had to wait extremely long to get food
Donna, you are spot on about timing. We had a line cook leave abruptly because his father was hospitalized and we just weren't able to replace him. I apologize and I'd like to invite you back. Please let me know when you'd like to come and I'll make sure to take care of you. Mary
Great BYOB - delicious food- had pasta with seafood, grilled calamari and lamb chops- fresh!
Thanks for your kind words, Ingrid!
We really enjoyed this restaurant. The food was excellent. There was a neighborly vibe to it as well.
Felt that they were a little burned out or overwhelmed by the time we arrived. We had a table for 8 and it seemed to throw them off a bit
Overwhelmed is accurate. A reservation of 13 came 40 minutes late for a rehearsal dinner on top of our sous chef calling out because of a stomach bug. On top of the timing issue, one of our waitresses became unable to handle the urgency. I apologize for the delay between courses for your party of eight. Please contact me so that I may rectify your experience. I'd be happy to "gift" you for a proper experience.
We were four persons dining for the first time here. We all enjoyed the experience. The menu was versatile and user friendly. The choices were several in each category but not overwhelming.
All the preparation was well done. DELICIOUS salad with beets and goat cheese. Also very good classic pizza. I only had one reservation for not giving it 5*...the soup was slightly watery(soup of the day, lentils escarole) and there were no salt and peper shakers on the table.
The service was excellent(Bria).
We have already determined it's a go-back-to kinda place!
A great hidden gem in the center of Bryn Mawr.
The food was delicious and the atmosphere lovely for a neighborhood restaurant.
This was our first time eating at this restaurant. The food was very good. We had the shrimp/polenta and grilled calamari appetizers. We also had the pasta special, Ox tail Paccheri. This pasta dish was so good, I had to share it with my family. My wife and son shared one of the pizza and it was very enjoyable. The service was a bit slower than we expected. We were a bit pressed for time because we were going to a 7pm movie around the corner. They seemed a bit understaffed for a Saturday night that quickly got very busy. We will try to come again.
Great service, great food
Another great meal at sontuaso
Excellent as usual.
Excellent meal by both! The service was great. There was a good buzz! Will be back!
Friday evening, our first visit could not have been more enjoyable. When a restaurant has diners enter through the spotless kitchen, guided on the outside of the separating counter, it's a bold move.
Artichoke and Ceasar were both great openings, the snapper and steak entrees were examples of well crafted plates. Presentations were interesting, flavor and textural combinations were different and delicious. Entree prices hover around $30, expect a tab of about $90 for two appetizers and two entrees, with a $5 corkage. Even on a Friday night, the husband and wife owners both made a point of introducing themselves to diners. Highly recommended for the reasonably sophisticate palate.
The food is delicious. The seafood is purchased fresh every morning. The owners (Ernesto and Mary) will treat you as if you are sitting in your own kitchen. Put this BYOB on your short list for weekdays and weekends. You can't get more sumptuos food and great service anywhere else on the mainline. ENJOY;)
They are trying very hard and are interested in doing well, I will go back and my own wine list is better than most restaurants
This was kind of a peculiar place. The food was better than expected. The life sized cardboard cutout of the owner greeting us at the host desk was weird. The decor seems confused and disjointed. Behind our table was an odd “dirty dish” cart where the debris from cleared tables was stashed. Was odd to have this at all visible in the dining room. Overall, some cosmetic changes could elevate the place.Hire a designer to consult and then make the design changes, and this restaurant would take a leap forward. The food was very good and service was ok, too.
I appreciate your feedback. We try to keep a little humor , hence , the cardboard cutout. Many patrons actually have their picture taken with it! Most dining rooms have "stations" for waitstaff to perform their duties efficiently so I apologize that you find it offensive. We keep it neat and tidy and at no time are dirty dishes visible to our patrons. Our decor is comfortable, not overstated , as many diners have stated, we focus on our quality of food, service and cleanliness.
