Sontuosa means sumptuous! Ernesto Guzman is bringing flavors from Mexico, Italy, France and America to the main line in a comfortable BYOB eatery.
Great BYOB - delicious food- had pasta with seafood, grilled calamari and lamb chops- fresh!
Felt that they were a little burned out or overwhelmed by the time we arrived. We had a table for 8 and it seemed to throw them off a bit
We were four persons dining for the first time here. We all enjoyed the experience. The menu was versatile and user friendly. The choices were several in each category but not overwhelming.
All the preparation was well done. DELICIOUS salad with beets and goat cheese. Also very good classic pizza. I only had one reservation for not giving it 5*...the soup was slightly watery(soup of the day, lentils escarole) and there were no salt and peper shakers on the table.
The service was excellent(Bria).
We have already determined it's a go-back-to kinda place!
A great hidden gem in the center of Bryn Mawr.
The food was delicious and the atmosphere lovely for a neighborhood restaurant.
This was our first time eating at this restaurant. The food was very good. We had the shrimp/polenta and grilled calamari appetizers. We also had the pasta special, Ox tail Paccheri. This pasta dish was so good, I had to share it with my family. My wife and son shared one of the pizza and it was very enjoyable. The service was a bit slower than we expected. We were a bit pressed for time because we were going to a 7pm movie around the corner. They seemed a bit understaffed for a Saturday night that quickly got very busy. We will try to come again.
Great service, great food
Another great meal at sontuaso
Excellent as usual.
Excellent meal by both! The service was great. There was a good buzz! Will be back!
Friday evening, our first visit could not have been more enjoyable. When a restaurant has diners enter through the spotless kitchen, guided on the outside of the separating counter, it's a bold move.
Artichoke and Ceasar were both great openings, the snapper and steak entrees were examples of well crafted plates. Presentations were interesting, flavor and textural combinations were different and delicious. Entree prices hover around $30, expect a tab of about $90 for two appetizers and two entrees, with a $5 corkage. Even on a Friday night, the husband and wife owners both made a point of introducing themselves to diners. Highly recommended for the reasonably sophisticate palate.
The food is delicious. The seafood is purchased fresh every morning. The owners (Ernesto and Mary) will treat you as if you are sitting in your own kitchen. Put this BYOB on your short list for weekdays and weekends. You can't get more sumptuos food and great service anywhere else on the mainline. ENJOY;)
They are trying very hard and are interested in doing well, I will go back and my own wine list is better than most restaurants
We had the fixed price Valentine's Day menu which offered three dishes (appetizer, entree, dessert). I had the mushroom flatbread, the surf & turf, and the chocolate torte. My husband had the oysters Rockefeller, the bouillabaisse, and the lemon custard. Every dish was delightful and a true treat for the tastebuds. The cuisine is traditional European but with a personal twist. There is something unique to the flavor. The dining area is a large room, but feels cozy due to the lighting and the furnishings.
Horrible experience. Owner was rude and dismissive. Food was sub par. Charged for extra bread request. Will never go back here and will tell everyone I know what a terrible meal my party of three experienced
I don’t really write reviews unless something is deserved of it. I dined here last night . I have also eaten here multiple times. Ernesto and Mary always make you feel like they are cooking for you personally. The food is always fresh. They care that you like what they are making for you. I have eaten here with a friend who has an allergy to onions. Ernesto has just taken care of their needs and made something from scratch. Desserts are amazing and home made.
Overall, I love eating here. The food is fresh. The service is excellent and they care about you as people. They don’t look at you like a number and they have to turn the table and kick you out. They look at you as you are hopefully enjoying your meal as you would like too. That’s another reason I love eating here.
I highly recommend the food, experience and overall attention to the dining experience that you will receive when you eat here.
It’s worth it a try if you haven’t gone and worth it to keep going back. Sanutuosa is an awesome place to dine.
A wonderful birthday dinner celebration for our son. Delicious food, excellent service, would highly recommend to family and friends. Thank you!
Great! Delicious dinner. Great service.
I was really looking forward to trying this, was hoping for a great, new local restaurant. Service was all over the place - we were sitting next to the kitchen and the entire time, the servers and hostess were totally confused about where dishes were supposed to go, whose they were, etc. We waited AN HOUR for our entrees, and the food was not worth the wait. To make matters worse, the kitchen kept burning bread (?) on the grill so the room smelled like a campfire, so much so that I had to walk out because my eyes were burning. Such a disappointment.
We arrived at 6:30 and by 8 was not served our dinner.
Food came out wrong. They had to redo, and by the time it came back, the others had long finished.
May be ok for a lunch.
In a tough night Mary was great!
Flavors! Frequently we like to come to Sontuosa for comfort pasta. Yet hands-down, the fish dishes are always superbly prepared. Tonight I started with grilled shrimp on a frisé bed with aoli starter, followed by a main of bronzino on a bed of green beans and mashed potatoes. The mashed was just enough to plate the presentation, the green beans were alienated and the fish, smothered with a prep of green olives, roasted grape tomatoes and well, I’m not entirely sure about the other components that topped the fish, I just dug in. It was delicious.
A wonderful night out with the girls. Great food and charming service! A must try!
I’ve been dining at Sontuosa since it first opened, almost two years ago, and I’ve never been disappointed. However, our four-course New Years Eve meal still managed to exceed all our expectations. My husband proclaimed it the best meal he’d ever had, and I would agree. From the wonderful, subtle aroma of the escargot, before I even tasted these perfectly cooked delicacies, through to dessert, I didn’t leave one morsel on my plate. And even though the popularity of this cozy restaurant is growing, owner Ernesto and his wife Mary never fail to say a few words to each customer. Getting to the point, though, where you need to book early, especially for their special events.
The food at Sontuosa is always wonderful - fresh and homemade, creative and delicious. This visit we had grilled bronzino with a lovely light lemon sauce and tortellini with pancetta sauce. All terrific.
Mussels were inedible. Capuchin o came with curdled milk on top! Can’t go back.
I always like Sontousa. The food is very good and it's a BYOB which saves money.
We loved Sobtuosa! Great food, great atmosphere and great value. Will absolutely be back!
The noise level was great for conversations and the staff and owners were very welcoming and made our dining experience even more enjoyable!
The food was great! Delicious pizza with bone marrow on it—something I’ve never seen before. The service was excellent. I thought it was a bit on the expensive side, especially because of the uncorking fee.
Owners are very “hands on” & were so nice. Food was very good & menu is unique- operations are a little small but we will definitely go back!
An absolute gem of a restaurant tucked into a non descript space in Bryn Mawr. Superior service and excellent food. An awesome find!
Great neighborhood spot with plenty of parking. Food was delicious and wait staff attentive. Our large group enjoyed a lovely luncheon. Thanks@
We have been there several times. The food is very good with a mix of unique and standard menu items. Comfortable, quiet, convenient parking make it a good choice
We tried this restaurant on a date night on a whim after googling BYOB in Bryn Mawr. What a wonderful surprise! The food is excellent, the service attentive, the owners dedicated to giving their patrons a superb dining experience. This is a fantastic BYOB addition to Bryn Mawr and we will be back!
Fantastic pasta and the aubergine was delicious and unique. Very friendly service as well.
First time visit. Ordered mussels. Sorry we are out. Food was good. However in a restaurant with moderately priced entrees, clipping me for prime rib at $45 was outrageous. That is no way to get return business. I didn’t ask but they didn’t offer.
We had to wait 30 minutes past our reservation time but the food was worth the wait. The noise level makes it a little hard to have a conversation. The service is just okay but I may be a little tougher than most as I am in a service business. I have a difficult time when your server has to auction the courses. ie: who gets the chicken, who gets the fish. All that aside, the food is so delicious, we over looked all else.
We were seated immediately and hard our order taken without much delay; however, it took a very long time for our food to arrive
Very friendly and efficient staff, and the owners Mary and Ernesto (chef) couldn't be nicer or more accommodating. The food is always good, gave it only four stars, because the salad seemed smaller than usual. A great place to experience well prepared food at reasonable prices.
