Our waitor Alejandro was great. The food was good. The buffalo chicken sandwich was excellent. The hostess were great. Drinks were phenomenal. Get the Kentucky Mule
Had dinner reservations for 2. Very loud, minimal staff for such a large crowd. Waited over 15 min each time for drinks. Had to get up multiple times from my seat to find waiter to place my order. Waitresses were too busy mingling with guests and joking around rather than take their job seriously. Spent $100 on a semi cold chicken sandwich and very light drinks. Will not be going back.
I took my husband for his Birthday we had an Amazing time. Actually planning another reservation for two weeks. We will be frequent customers. Love the place and absolutely recommend!!!!
Love this spot! Good vibe, delicious food, yummy drinks, great staff and great hip hop DJ. DEFINITELY COMING BACK!
Barely any food to order, not at all what is on the website. It is obvious that it is about drinking and not eating.
Got the impression if you are over 25 stay out. I had eaten there years ago, it was quite good. They should change the name as it is not the same. Grrrrrrr......
It was a great experience. The staff was very attentive.
Awesome! The hostess and manager was great, very accommodating and service was excellent! I love sons of Essex when visiting NYC.
Quality of food is just terrible, the mimosas where probably the worst Ive had. Music is too loud to even hear anyone speak. Service was good, but with everything else at such low quality going somewhere else is a better idea.
Very expensive for the quality. Mimosas were horribl. Food and ambiance was OK.
I really enjoyed my time here. It wasn’t too crowded. The only unfortunate reason I didn’t give 5 stars is bc my steak wasn’t cooked to the correct temperature. But when I told the servers and who I assume to be the manager, they were extremely accommodating and asked if I wanted another one. I told them I’d had enough to eat and they compensated me very well.
I will say that besides my steak not being the right temp, it was the best brunch meal I’d ever had! Usually places who have “party brunches” focus more on the party than on the brunch. But the flavor that was in my food?... omg, he put his foot in it! I even ate the pico de gallo and I NEVER eat pico!
The music was great! Old school and present day hip hop. Loud to some standards, but I was able to have a full conversation without struggling so I thought the noise level was just right.
It’s a little pricey. The kind of brunch you go to during pay week. But I will say i wasn’t dissapointed so I don’t regret the money spent.
I’ll definitely be back!
It was my first time here, it was really nice and the food was okay..it wasn’t the most live brunch I’ve been to but I would go again.
The host was amazing. Friendly, funny, and helpful. Food was also amazing and so is the look of the place.
Came for a Sunday brunch at 1 and it was great fast service with delicious food.
From the bartender to the waiter everyone was attentive and helpful. The food was great and the drinks were strong. It was a wonderful Sunday brunch experience
Overall nice place the food and service was great! My only concern is the cleanliness of the restroom it could use a thorough cleaning.
Fun decor and lively atmosphere are the only really positive thing I can say about our experience at Sons of Essex. The music was very loud, so you could really only hear the person next to you. The food took over an hour and our appetizer came at the same time as the entrees. One of the burger entrees had to be sent back because it was missing all of the requested toppings. All in all a disappointing experience.
Took my boyfriend here for his birthday . He enjoyed how lowkey is was and the food/drinks was excellent!
Meeting old school friends for a good meal and conversation. Food, wine and service were excellent, noise (music) level was so high we couldn't hear a thing. My ears are still ringing. Not sure why good music in a restaurant needs to shatter ones ear drums. It's not a club, it's a RESTAURANT
Always a Nice Hang out Spot!!!Great Atmosphere!!!!
I really enjoyed the food at Sons of Essex. I had the shrimp Mac and cheese and signature truffle fries. I enjoyed the Mac n cheese but the truffle fries seemed like regular fries to me. There wasn't anything too special about them, in my opinion. Also, the environment was chill and waitresses were fun but at one point it got sooo cold. The music was so loud. This is more of a place to eat and party. Having a conversation will make your voice hurt. I left with a coarse throat. I couldn't speak. I would recommend for food and birthdays.
They are very strict about their 2 hour table limit and will have staff hover to 'encourage' you to leave. Part of our group was late and despite the bar being pretty empty, the hostess was going to move us and cancel our reservation due to a party that would arrive 2 hours later. It was so bizarre, especially since the place was not full.
No one was impressed with their foods or drinks.
Great atmosphere. Love the 90s hip-hop and R&B brunch. Great food, music and the environment, you can't go wrong.
Great Food, Great Music(Too Much Jay-Z, Drake And Kanye thou))Nice Location
My biggest problem with Sons of Essex was the noise level. I know I'm old but the music was turned up so loud that my friends and I had a lot of trouble hearing each other and catching up with each other was one of the main reasons we went out to eat. Otherwise it was a very good restaurant.
I took my out of state friends here for brunch and to celebrate her little sisters birthday. We had a blast! Great music and the birthday sundae was amazing!
horrible experience on a Friday night. 8pm reservations for 4. Server did not come to our table for 15 minutes. After giving our food and drink order we waited over 20 minutes with nothing but water. After flagging manager and staff the server came back to retake the order. It was not busy enough for this to be remotely excusable. Other tables around us ordered and were served before us.
I like taking friends here for brunch because it has great tasting food and great specialty drinks. They also have a nice selection of bourbons and a well stocked bar overall. The crowd is energetic and everyone is dressed to impress but not too serious. It's a fun place and the staff is friendly and professional. My only complaint is that bottomless mimosa's are only available to parties of 10 or more and the "pitchers" are a little on the small side IMHO more like a carafe.
They gave me a surprise on the house because it was my birthday . The food , drinks and the music was amazing. I definitely recommend for birthdays or even a pregame for a night on the town !
They changed the cooks and took changed to pancakes ( used to be the best thing on the menu . Food wasn’t flavored , not coming here again
Always a good time at Sons of Esssex! Must try the lobster mac and cheese its awesome
Staff was friendly and accommodating. Food was tasty. Nice bar. Clean rest rooms
The waiter came and we ordered drinks and food.
Best food and service around!!! #everydaywelit
Had brunch there for my birthday on a Sunday with friends. Staff was EXTREMELY kind!! One waiter walked by noticed we didn’t have a chair for our bags and gave us one without us asking. The staff was very attentive, they had a full room, but they did a great job at making you feel special. They took pictures for us (good ones) and didn’t make us feel as if we were a bother! The food was good could have been seasoned better but it wasn’t bad at all. Music
Was EXCELLENT!! Overall great atmosphere! I can’t wait to go back for dinner!
Awesome place for birthday and for groups of people. we had a BLAST!
Fun dinner. Good music. Shared tapas. Lobster Mac & cheese was to die for.
Had a great dinner with friends. Emmy was our server and she was outstanding! She was quick to give her opinion on food and drinks & was always around when we needed something. Our drinks were delicious as well as the food!
One of my favorites when I come to the lower east side! Great food, fun atmosphere, and terrific staff.
