About Sonora Restaurant
Since Rafael Palomino—Sonora’s Executive Chef and Proprietor—opened the doors to this, his flagship Latin-fusion restaurant, he has received accolades from a broad customer base, including an “Excellent” from the New York Times. This creative, Colombian-born (Queens-raised) chef and author of five cookbooks, has since opened 8 more restaurants that span three states (New York, Connecticut and Pennsylvania). Sonora, like Palomino’s other restaurants, boasts excellent service and mouth-watering dishes, paired with an extensive wine list and cocktail offerings. In addition to impeccable service and delicious dishes, Sonora’s two-story home offers guests the possibility of having a custom-designed and catered on-site private party, for any occasion, from 12 to 110 people.

Sonora Restaurant Ratings and Reviews
Have been to Sonora several times.
Good food, nice atmosphere, and good service.
WARNING-Did not honor Groupon. Owner
Makes his own rules. They didn't honor the
Wine and drinks on our bill. They said it s not
Included even though it only says exclusion
Is specialty drinks. Wasn't worth it. Didn't
Spend enough on food. What a bad business
Decision. WILL NOT GO BACK.
Went here for a pre-concert dinner with a date. Very nice atmosphere. Great food, great service. Had the Tapas. Everything we tried was outstanding. Can't say anything but good things about the place and the people. Even the bread was unique and creative.
You can't go wrong if you choose this place.
My husband and I love this restaurant. They have great vegetarian dishes for us. And upon request, they grill the branzino and serve it with delicious roasted vegetables. We also love the Tacos de squash and the vegan Paella. Great margaritas and sangria. The mango sangria is my favorite! Wonderful, accommodating staff.
Waitress forgot one of our orders. Menu has changed. Some of previous appetizers that were very shareable are no longer available,e.g. some of the flatbreads. Some of the new appetizers are quite good,e.g. baked oysters, shrimp ajillo. Spring roll was a disappointment and should be removed.
The food was excellent and we really enjoyed our meal. Other than being seated right next to a large party when no one else was in the room at 6pm, was a little annoying. The seats were too close together for the wait staff to get through to serve the table. The presentation of the food was beautiful and I would go back for good food every time. Seating can b changed.
Only one word describes our dinner at Sonora: excellent. The food was delicious. I had the duck quesadillas, shrimp and scallops entree. Hubby had the octopus and paella. The flavors are awesome, the service was professional and friendly. We will definitely return!!
The guacamole came out right away as did one appetizer. The rest of the meal took at least another 30 minutes which was unusual for Sonora. I shared a bunch of tapas which were not up to the level that I have come to expect from Sonora. We were not as happy as usual. Hoping it was an off night.
Four generation Thanksgiving dinner and everyone was pleased. The food was delicious, well prepared, attractively presented. Despite the fact that it was really busy and crowded, there was adequate wait staff on hand so that service was top notch. The handcrafted cocktails were yummy. We'll go there again.
We have been dining at Sonora for 14 years and have always had a top quality meal with excellent waitstaff. We are not people that always dine at the same restaurants... Sonora is the exception. The fried calamari salad and the new brussel sprout salad are our favorites. The tacos are superb and the guacamole made at your table is perfect. The fondue dessert is outrageous.
I dine at Sonora often because their tapas are outstanding. It's always fun to come and try new tapas with friends. Their staff is attentive and knowledgeable and very friendly. I am a huge fan of their mojitos-easily the best in Westchester. I recommend the guacamole (made in front of you) and the calamari salad- it's amazing!
Everything at Sonora was excellent. My only complaint is that it gets pretty loud. Not sure if that's the restaurant's fault, or the area... Many places in Westchester seem to be exceedingly loud. The food is fabulous. They have great cocktails, and the setting is quaint and inviting. We will definitely go back. It's well worth it.
The food was excellent. Also I really loved the White Sangria with Mango. Would definitely go back. We had the guacamole, duck quesadilla, mahi mahi tacos, cauliflower and the skirt steak for my main dish. It was all excellent. my only complaint is that the restaurant is extremely loud.
From the welcome at the door to the very end the staff were fabulous! We had a party of 8 initially with 3 leaving to go the Capital theater. Our table was perfect. The food and service were outstanding. The wine was reasonably priced with a good selection. We had a wonderful evening! Thank you!
Came here for restaurant week with my husband and we really enjoyed it. I had short rib pastels, an excellent red snapper, and the pumpkin churros, everything was really good. I also had a couple of their spicy margaritas which are not for the faint of heart! Hubby had the tuna tacos, beefsteak and the cheesecake. The tacos and cheesecake were amazing, beefsteak was pretty run of the mill but not bad. I'm not a big steak person anyway. The portion seemed a little small but we weren't paying full price so I didn't mind. The atmosphere is really cute and the service was very good. Our waiter was very friendly and attentive. It's a little pricey normally but I would definitely recommend for a special occasion.
Food was authentic, very well made and tasty however the service leaves much to be desired. Our waitress on Friday night appeared sick, was sniffling, sneezing around the customers food. She should have excused herself for the night. Additionally, our seating, which was requested on Open Table to be in a quiet table was initially center of the restaurant, and when asked to move they wanted to seat us in the hallway!?! Bizarre use of a hallway to squeeze extra tables in. Eventually we were moved to the center table downstairs, not a quiet remote table as requested. Towards the end of the meal our waitress disappeared completely, having the bus boy ask if we wanted desert. Yes, we told him we would like a desert menu and 30 minutes later were still waiting. The food tastes great and makes up for the lack of good service, but after reading many other reviews complaining about the staff I would say its time for some training and an overhaul on employees. Sonora - lets make the service match the quality of your food!
Went for a "date night" dinner with the hubby. Delicious tapas, good quick service, nice wine list. We sat upstairs which was a bit quieter than below. Comfortable booth table. Nice music mostly, though could have done without 2 Ricky Martin songs. But food was great, and tapas are fun, which are most important in a restaurant to me.
Dinner with friends during Restaurant Week was not up to par. Staff seemed annoyed that some of us ordered from the special menu by pointing out the smaller size of the included dishes. Despite that, the food was not up to Sonora's usual standards. Dishes were brought to the table lukewarm. Utensils had to be requested. Should the lobster bisque be served without spoons? And with virtually no lobster present? Chocolate and Cheesecake desserts were excellent as was the guacamole and sangria. We hope that this was a case of a restaurant just having a bad night and not indicative of a more serious decline.
We really enjoyed our visit. The food was very good and the service was exceptionable, but it was lunchtime and the restaurant was empty. For a restaurant Week menu, the food was very good. Our only problem was getting there as we don't live in the area and had forgotten to bring their phone number. If we lived closer. I'm sure we would be there more often.
I went here for restaurant week and it was absolutely devine. I looked through dozens of menus on valley table and honestly I was most impressed by Sonora's. In my opinion they have the best Restaurant week menu out there. The puplo was awesome! I followed that up with the personal paella and of course the pumpkin churros! Our waiter Antonio was kind and easy to talk to, and the service was perfect. I might have no choice but to come back again before restaurant week is over!
A very mixed experience. We went on what was clearly a busy Saturday night. We had reservations and waited ten minutes for our table which was not an issue. The problems started with the wait for initial service and drinks once we got seated. Things got worse as our waiter simply never returned for 15 minutes after we ordered. Drink orders went left unattended. After waiting over an hour for our dinner to arrive, I asked to speak to a manager. My first few requests went unanswered and then we found a waiter who could clearly identify with our frustration. Eventually a manager came by to apologize for the poor service. The reality is that once the food arrived it was easy to see why the place was so crowded. The meals were outstanding. So the lesson learned is you have to pick between service and food. One part great and one part terrible.
