Since Rafael Palomino—Sonora’s Executive Chef and Proprietor—opened the doors to this, his flagship Latin-fusion restaurant, he has received accolades from a broad customer base, including an “Excellent” from the New York Times. This creative, Colombian-born (Queens-raised) chef and author of five cookbooks, has since opened 8 more restaurants that span three states (New York, Connecticut and Pennsylvania). Sonora, like Palomino’s other restaurants, boasts excellent service and mouth-watering dishes, paired with an extensive wine list and cocktail offerings. Had the seafood paella with lobster which was decent but way over priced for the portion size. The steak appetizer and beet salad was excellent. Service couldn't be better. Would definitely go back to try something else.

We went for Valentine’s Day dinner with another couple. The place was packed and we were seated in an upstairs back room for the first time. It was quiet and pretty but too dark. Service was a bit spotty- we asked for a few things that never showed up. The sangria which I’ve had many times had to be sent back as did the Diet Coke made with fountain syrup. Everything else was excellent. The holiday menu was a great value and delicious. the shared dessert should have been explained before serving. Everything had chocolate (even the syrup on
the chorros) and one of us can’t eat chocolate. The waiter offered and brought him a non chocolate plate immediately.

We love Sonora and look forward to our next visit.

Service was not great. My (expensive) Pisco sour was so sour it was undrinkable, so I sent it back. It took so long to get our waiter that I didn’t want it anymore as the meal started. He never took it off the bill. Guacamole was delicious! I usually order appetizer portions but my seviche had so little fish that even I was shocked there were no even 4 whole pieces in a bowl of limey liquid. Salmon and bronzino main dishes were both really good. Chimichurri looked leathery. Honestly we expected better. Doubt we will go back anytime soon.

We hadn't been to Sonora in years. Not because we didn't like it..just had been off our radar. Some friends suggested we should give it a try. We made a reservation for four on Open Table for Friday night at 8:15. They called during the day to confirm and I mentioned that I wanted to be in one of the main dining rooms and NOT in the bar (Nice bar..but too casual and energetic for the kind of dining and conversation we had in mind.
Arrived on time and were told that they could only seat us in the bar as there were no more tables in the DR. I was about to leave when the Chef and Owner Rafael Palomino appeared and promised us a table in five minutes in the DR. He was charming...couldn't have been more welcoming...spent some time with us chatting to help with the wait. Sure enough after about 5 minutes we were seated. He treated us to the best guacamole I have had in a while and the evening proceeded without a hitch. The food was plentiful and quite imaginative. A combination of all Latin cuisines from tapas and paella to Mexican and South American..all perfectly prepared. The cocktail menu is creative and delicious. The drinks come out quickly.
The pleasant surprise at the end was the bill. Really quite reasonable...and we hadn't been shy about ordering. Would highly recommend this place for a casual atmosphere with some pretty serious cuisine!

We enjoyed the Riojas Wine Tasting night! The food wine and food paring was perfect. They had a wine expert describing each wine, and provided a generous pour. The wild mushroom ragu should be on the regular menu as it was so rich and addictive. Chef Rafael created a delicious three course menu. We will be watching for future wine tastings.

Came here for Rioja Night. It was very nice and intimate. We sat with the other couples/ people and experienced a very nice menu paired with wine. I definitely recommend going to their events. Everything was delicious as usual.

Came here last Sunday to try brunch out. The menu is great and each brunch item comes with a drink! I had the salmon eggs Benedict and it was great. The service was friendly and on point. I will definitely be back !

Enjoyed our visit to Sonora for my wife's birthday celebration. We had reservations for 6 at 7pm. Our table was ready when we arrived. Usually busy Saturday night. Most tables were taken. We ordered specialty cocktails...waited a while for drinks to arrive. Our server was Silvio. Very nice! He came over to let us know the drinks would soon be coming. This really set the tone for the night....everything was good but the waiting was a bit too much. It seems the restaurant was very short on staff. For a crowed restaurant I noticed our server running around to so many tables. It was almost 9 pm (!), with a 7pm reservation, when we were served our dinner. Mine was not hot but I decided not to complain because everyone was pleased with their meal . Nice menu selection and great specials. We decided against dessert because we decided the wait would not be worth it. Please...hire more staff.

Our first time We went on Wed night so the restaurant was not crowded at all. There seemed to be plenty of waiters and were greeted graciously but attentiveness was limited as I had to eye the waiter several times to come over. We waited almost an hour for our food to be served and it was lukw warm like it had been sitting a while. steak over cooked almost to burnt not to mention size was very minimal for the price. We happened to notice a large party who was seated way after we arrived got served before us and we where a party of 2. I asked the waiter why food was taking so long he replied it takes a while to cook a thick steak like it was our fault for ordering that! Lame excuse.

Otherwise the place is nice and festive. Food presentation was ok. I enjoyed my branzino but would have tasted better hot. We had wine from Spain not that great for 60 although on wed it’s half price. We had to ask for a wine list!

Maybe we will try again might have been an off night.
