Had a reservation for 7, and they didn’t seat us until 7:30... didn’t bring our drinks for another 20 or so minutes and there was just so much waiting. Service just sucked. Food was ok. Nothing special.
Great place to eat and relax after the play at the Eccles.
Perfect for a date or dinner with friends. The lighting is soft and relaxing, it can get a little loud, which is to be expected on a busy day like Valentines, but otherwise we were able to hear ourselves speak without shouting, it wasn't too bad. The food was excellent, highly recommend the creme brûlée and a glass of wine.
They are having some growing pains. We sat near the kitchen and my eyes were stinging from the smoke as there isnt enough ventalation. The waitress kept saying sorry but there isnt much she can do when the entire dining room was full of smoke. The chicken was good the pork chop was okay. They do really small pours of wine 5oz, so it's a little expensive. I'd go back again in a few months if it's still there and hopefully they would have ironed out some of the issues.
Great service and great food. Perfect place for a date night.
It was delicious! Only thing I would change would be if there was better ventilation in the kitchen so that smoke didn't get to the seating areas but other than that it was great!
Exellent staff . Food was drowned in sugared Balsamic vinagar. Everything tasted like it had sugar added.
The name Sonoma led me to think this would be carefully crafted. The eggplant parmigiana was typical Utah quality I was really hoping to get a crispy eggplant. Hoping they substitute quantity for quality. Also, I think the chef likes garlic and onion. I travel to Italy often and have never tasted garlic on eggplant.
Great new spot in SLC, friendly and attentive staff and great wine selection. Will be visiting again soon!
The food was good overall but there was way to much sauce and they were super sweet. We started with calamari and it was swimming in sweet chili sauce. Sauce on the side would have allowed us to actually taste the food. We both got pizzas and again, there was a sweet glaze on mine that was too strong and (I can't believe I'm saying this) but there was too much goat cheese. I didn't even know that was possible! The crust was nothing special. I'd go back in 6 months because new restaurants usually need some months to dial things in.
Great visit! Colleen wasn’t our waitress, full of information, patient and knowledgeable about the wine. We were visiting from Montana and all 8 of us women enjoyed the evening greatly!!
We had a reservation for the time the restaurant was supposed to open 4:30pm but the door was locked when we went. We came back in 10 minutes, the door was still locked. They saw us outside and realized the door hadn't been unlocked. Not too happy about that as I only had an hour I could stay and it took up some of that time. Everything else was fine. Good food. Good service. We were there early so the music was a little loud. I'm sure with the restaurant full it wouldn't have seemed as loud. In general we were happy with the experience. I would go back and take other friends.
Came here after searching Yelp and confirmed by a foodie friend that this place was good. I really want to like this place. The decoration and vibe inside is top notch. Reminds me nice restaurants in NYC. The service was great. The wine list was 100. The food... well, they need to elevate it a bit. We had the ribs to start. The sauce was incredible, we couldn't get enough. I wish was slow-cooked a bit longer. It was not as tender as I'd expect. I also had the Niman ranch burger which was disappointing. The patty was too think for a gourmet burger which made the overall burger too dry. It definitely has potential. My wife had the shrimp scampi. The shrimp were fresh and cooked perfectly. The sauce was rich flavorful. A homemade pasta would elevate it to the $26 price. Overall, a good new place to try, but it has the potential to be better. I'll come back in a few months or so.
The service was very good. The salad was outstanding and the eggplant parm was good, not great but I liked that they didn't smother it in cheese. I would recommend this restaurant.
The food and service were excellent. We ordered the Buratta Ravioli and they were delicious. There is a nice selection of high quality wines, although they are pricey ($15 for a 5 ounce glass of Chalk Hill Chardonnay). I look forward to trying other dishes here in the future.
It was our first time here. The manager and staff were outstanding and the food was delicious. We will definitely be back!
Great help from SOM in picking out terrific wines.
The food was fabulous. The place appears to be new and they need to sort out some kinks in service, but I wouldn’t let that stop you from going here.
We were seated for nearly 10 minutes before we saw a waiter, and they were not busy. We ordered to small plates, both lackluster and needing flavor The caprese has strawberries and grapes in it, very weird, and I have never had such a bland order of carpaccio.
We shared the Steelhead entree, which was the redeeming factor of the meal. I know they are very recently open, but they have some bugs to work out.
Meh. Our server was really pushy, DINING is not about making your guests order quickly and getting each plate out as quickly as possible. One of our plates came out cold and we had to send it back. The price of the food was not worth what we got. It was good, but not that good. I’ve had much better meals for the price. They’ll have to step it up if they want to compete. Salt Lake City is becoming foodie heaven.
The Sonoma Grill was new to us, we had reviewed your online menu, and we were not disappointed. The food was very good. We will be back for drinks and appetizers, as well as future celebrations. So impressed, we’re spreading the word, about the great downtown dining experience.
We stopped in on a whim and it was an excellent evening. Delicious interesting food, great service, and the prices were reasonable.
We braved the holiday crowds and ate at the Sonoma Grill this last weekend. I booked it with some trepidation because I am not a fan of its sister restaurant Christophers, but I am always interested in trying new places, especially when it holds itself out as a wine bar. Especially in Utah. Overall, Sonoma Grill has only been open for a few weeks and they still have some issues to work through, but it was pretty good. The wine was great, the appetizers were OK, my pasta (shrimp scampi) was not great.
My main concern is that the waitress was very nice but she hadn't even tried many of the menu items so she couldn't answer our questions, and she was also not very knowledgeable about the wines - which is a problem for a wine bar. The manager was very concerned about our experience so I give them credit for that. I think we'll be back in a few months to give them another chance.
This new restaurant has a creative menu that lives up to the Sonoma chef-hype. Good wine selections, too. We thoroughly enjoyed memorable meal and would dine here again. We want to try many other items on the menu. Reasonably-prices for the quality and creativity of the cuisine.
Excellent food! Great new place in downtown Salt Lake City. We look forward to our next visit.
We had high hopes for this new wine bar gastro pub. Unfortunately we found it disappointing. Expected more from the menu and the wine list. If you are going to market your restaurant as a wine bar, you should offer more wines by the glass. The whole point of a wine bar is to taste a variety of wines. Food was mediocre. We tried two different pizzas, two different salads and the crab chowder and we weren't impressed with anything we had. What I can complement is the service. In the time we were sitting there, we were checked on by at least 3 servers, chef and manager. I doubt we will be repeat diners, too many other options in SLC.
Food and service were great. Manager was very attentive.
Good space, friendly people, and trying hard so we will give it another chance but still working things out. Our first course came out as expected but then things went quiet for 45 minutes and we had to leave so we got our main to go— wasn’t sure if they forgot it or it just sat under a heat lamp. The restaurant has potential though so we will give it another try in a couple months and hope for a better experience!
